    Tron is a great example of how much hard work goes into making a film especially a science fiction film. I had a book that showed you how the film was made and i just couldn't wait to see it. I went time and time again to watch it and it became one of my all time favourite films of all time. Just brilliant. The visuals of the film uses very bright colours but they are stunning.

    So much hard work, I have so much respect for these guys and really everyone who worked on the original film. It seemed like such a stroke of genius and luck that it was ever even made to the quality and fidelity that it was! A true classic.

    2:15 That's the potential Lasseter saw. A 3D-background not even the multiplane camera could achieve, which could be populated with hand-drawn characters. Like the clocktower sequence in The Great Mouse Detective, even if that was with moving parts.
    Not even he could have guessed that the group at Lucasfilm planned to make even the characters as CGI.

    Brings back memories of the wow factor the first graphics had, any graphics. Now, one strains trying to determine if an image is real or synthetic. Blender is free to anyone.

    This is a film I'm split on...
    Aesthetically, I think it's interesting to look at -- even beautiful. Frankly, I like the look of the original film better than the sequel which I felt was lazy in the art department... It was a generic BMX/Extreme Sports riff whereas the original film TRIED to recreate the experience of a videogame before the term virtual reality was in the mass conscience.
    The original TRON is in some ways a predecessor to The Matrix.
    Yes, it was a technical achievement BUT...
    a) it's boring as hell to sit through; it's just ponderous in a way that few films besides 2001 are;
    b) it's far from the best-acted movie in motion picture history;
    c) it's legitimately one of those films where the tie-in licenses are BETTER than the film. IE, the arcade videogames Midway produced based on the film (TRON and TRON: Discs of Tron) are better experiences than the motion picture was.
    d) The music, particularly the theme, is interesting... It's also an earlier instance of a computer-generated/synthesized soundtrack.
    e) This is yet another Disney science fiction film that just never really progressed much beyond cult status. (The other cult Disney sci-fi film was The Black Hole.) I doubt they'll do a TRON ride in any of the parks although the Tron character himself did appear in one of Square Soft's Kingdom Hearts games some years back...
    I was one of about 10 people that saw TRON in 1982.
    I've gotta say, it has not gotten better with time.
    The sequel was worse and Jeff Bridges really, IMHO, slept-walk through the sequel and basically did the same character he acted as in "The Big Lebowski" which is a disappointment. (I liked "The Big Lebowski" but did not care to see that character again instead of an older Flynn.)

      By sequel I assume you mean Legacy and not 2.0

      A light cycle roller coaster is bring built in Disney world as we speak, the entire tron series(i say entire as i include uprising) is on Disney plus, we got a light cycle lego set, wreck it ralph 2 had a scene set in the light cycle grid and diamond select is making figures of the characters from the classic film. Its safe to say the world is catching up to how good tron is and that disney is remembering what i consider its best film series outside of the star wars franchise
