I truly love the work of Hedi at Saint Laurent, he refreshed the brand and took things from the past of YSL and made them so rock n' roll. Hedi has been making really ready to wear fashion and I love previous collections, but this one in particular, made me think there's something that needs to make you fell in love at first sight as the other collections. However, I think Hedi is one of a kind and I admire his work as designer and photographer.
Being truly objective, Hedi isn't showing new designs or new shapes, however he manages to make the whole outfits look sooooo cool and so new and relevant for the season that makes every outfit unique. Love the show, as simple as that. Hedi Slimane never disappoints, he delivered what he pretended to deliver initially. Great work
If you read the book about YSL's own 1971 controversial collection that everyone hated, this was the point Yves himself introduced referencing vintage fashion from previous decades: the 40s in his case. This is why Hedi could not get any more Saint Laurent if he tried! He knew the house inside and out, and was mentored by Yves. All those collections Hedi did referencing the 90s, the 80s, the 70s. That was the pure spirit of the house! Or certainly one aspect of it people don't really know about.
Everyone dissing on Hedi.....Where were you when Stefano Pilati was designing amazing collections for YSL...oh that's right, no one cared about his vision right???
By what i see in the comments section, I can see people are very angry. But I actually like the collection, i can see people wearing a lot of this pieces on daily basis.
True ....but I can buy similar clothing for my 3 daughters at FOREVER 21 to wear everyday and buy an expensive piece that will be recognized in a number of years by Alexander Wang, Isabelle Marant, etc.
Well you might not have liked my reply but now 2 years after this comment Alexander Wang and Isabelle Marant are still doing fashion shoes and Heidi Slimane is out!
***** well what exactly YSL code in there? I didn't see it. Although there's no doubt on Hedi's signature was there. I was expecting more of his vision of how to dress the YSL "women" not there 17 yrs old daughter on the 2nd collection.
Horrible ! What is YSL ? If it is a luxury lifestyle brand, then this is a complete utter disaster ! What luxury, what lifestyle was on show here ? 20 something/teenage London club scene ? No women in her 30's and beyond who is rich enough to buy YSL would ever wear any of this trash, the glitzy colors, the mini skirts, the mid calf leather leggings ( horrors ! )The YSL customer is not a club girl cos who BTW can' t afford YSL. This is like Topshop's imitation of YSL. Everything looked so cheap from the colors to the fabrics ( who cares if the fur was real or fake, it looked cheap fake ) The styling with the hats, long unkept hair, shiny heeled plaforms and very very young models made it all ten times worse. Just compare to Chanel, Celine, Dior, I mean that is your competition ain't it, and see how they do it, elegant, luxurious and still youthful enough, but not for teen girls. There was nothing you could wear on the red carpet, in the corporate world, or even as a socialite swanning around town. It was cheap and trashy disco drag.
You guys are completely clueless, this was more YSL than Hedi especially considering the 70s disco theme when Hedi is more rock n roll. 70s Bianca Jagger, disco, studio 54, coked up party girl is 10000% Saint Laurent in the 70s!! I think some people don't understand YSL's early days doing ready-to-wear were all about youth and controversy while his Haute Couture was about more grown up elegance.
CL LZRNU personally, i didnt say heidi can't deliver his design for the house, but i think his esthetic is more cater to rocknroll glam, im afraid is he able to create another side of Saint Laurent, the feminine "le smoking" look, which was very well known for Saint Laurent himself. I also doubt on his audiences, who actually 30 to 40 yrs old women, are they going to buy the clothes, if I'm somehow 35 yrsold woman, im not going to shop this collection unless they adjust the hemline longer, that's my point of view, agree or not, and I'm a huge fan of heidi, but not this one "for YSL"
gemifredricko It's Hedi, not Heidi. And Saint Laurent was actually "rock n roll glam" in several ways. He dressed Bianca and Mick Jagger on their wedding, he dressed young Parisian college protesters in the 60s... Are you joking about the "le smoking" look? Because Hedi has done that since day 1 at YSL. The point I was making was that Saint Laurent ready to wear was always about youth and rebellion, while his Haute Couture was more grown up glam. Hedi plans to bring back Haute Couture and probably cater to the older audience there.
After many years something of YSL in the collection. It's hard to say it, I´m not fan of the way the brand is going, but this collection has some details related with YSL original style, the embroidery, the colors, the hats, the tailoring bring a little nostalgia of the essence of the brand. And also, there is luxury, maybe for a younger annoyed audience, but luxury.
Hedi doesn't care about overweight 50 years old fashion editors like Cathy Horyn and he showed us that two years ago, or about a bunch of homosexual fashion critics that wear low-cost brands or have a blog, he worries about costumers or people who is actually buying Saint Laurent, in 2012 when he made his first menswear collection, he only made a lookbook and a private sale with actual customers and sold it online and in boutiques. Clothes get sold quickly, and that's what matters, Saint Laurent sales have increased like a %250 since Hedi came in, so as long as it works he'll keep doing it. If this wasn't true, just look what happened with Zanini and Schiapparelli, or even worse, with Giannini and Gucci.
Carlos Didjazaá Sánchez You're being overtly homophobic on a runway video? Poor form. Also, I didn't realize there was an intersection of fans of the Saw series and high fashion.
Oh, I'm not being homophobic, I wanted to remark the fact that guys who despise Hedi's (or any other designer) work usually criticize as if they were going to wear the things they see on a runway, specially womenswear male critics or fans are very cheeky and cruel, if you are in touch or work in this industry you will understand what I'm talking about, if you don't, you can see some of the comments on the Vogue's Facebook page. By the way, I didn't know neither that there's an intersection between saw and high fashion fans, I guess I'm the only one.
I don't know if it is just me but there were a number of pieces that looked a lot like other pieces from other designers' collections. Whatever, I still like this collection. I don't understand why everyone is saying that it isn't sticking with the "YSL aesthetic." I definitely see a common thread between this collection and the past ones.
I love how a lot of the hate for Hedi's collections are coming from men. Clearly the demographic Hedi was aiming to attract lol. From a buyer's perspective, this collection is gold.
I don't know if its just me, but I thought the models were walking too fast. I guess that was the point? I was initially not going to like the collection. But after taking some time, I do like it. Nothing in this collection is really original or different, but all the clothes look cool. I think the suits and wide legged pants look very Yves Saint Laurent. I think the problem is that Hedi Slimane seems to be doing almost the same thing every season. His inspiration and aesthetic is a rocker look, and nothing about what he is doing shows any growth in the brand or for him as a designer. I think thats why so many people complain about Saint Laurent. I just dont think Slimane is that talented as a designer, but the clothes are not bad.
The multi frame effort was a complete waste. I pity the folks who had to sit through this song mix for 14 minutes. It must take a Frenchman to make sense of the choices here.
Hedi's takeover of YSL has been one long sinister walk along Santa Monica and Sunset Blvd at 3am. Always one to speak his mind Pierre Bergé more or less massacred every designer who took over the House of YSL and yet strangely he's quiet about Hedi......
Wearable or not, respectful of the YSL archive or not, deeply YSL dna or not, commercial or not... Saint Laurent collections always mean cheap clothes in terms of style. Miss Monsieur Pilati so bad.
why do people keep bullshit-analysing about this and that about the brand and the designer when they themselves never talk about it.....i guess thats part of marketing strategy and those buying into it do not deserve to be as fabulous
I don't think YSL/ Saint Laurent needs Hedi. I am so disappointed to Hedi after he design for YSL. Every time I walked to the shop, I asked myself why this dress cost me 10 thousand dollars - the style is old-fashioned, no special workmanship and the fitting is bad........
You know who thinks Saint Laurent needs Hedi? PPR/Kering, the parent company of Saint Laurent. Everyone seems to want to criticise Hedi's aesthetic as creative director, yet what you fail to realize is YSL was operating at a loss, losing millions per year. It's a business in the end, and whether or not Hedi is loyal to the brand DNA is of nominal concern in relation to how much revenue it makes. If money talks, and it does, PPR/Kering will want Hedi to remain creative director for as long as possible.
Clearly you should, if you're trying to make the argument that their financials aren't available to the public. But that's okay, you do you. Hedi is creative director of multi-million dollar brands. What have you done? Exactly, who cares.
Sa viens de kilostout ?ou c'est les friperie de paris ?je ressent rien de nouveau,,dans se défilé, c'est bizarre...!peut être le prix je pense !ya que ça qui change, terrible!
Cameras are so awfully positioned, with models walking in a multitude of directions. Must be to keep ppl from seeing how truly crappy this garbage is..
This is definetly the best YSL collection...
Just unbelievable, perfect sences...
Thank you, thank you, thank you Hedi...
I truly love the work of Hedi at Saint Laurent, he refreshed the brand and took things from the past of YSL and made them so rock n' roll.

Cara's walk is amazing
It's been a hit and miss with some of Hedi's collections but this is definitely a hit and appeals to the younger luxury market of today, rock on Hedi!
Ya'll don't understand slimane. This is truly perfection ✨
LONG LIVE SLIMANE!

Vini Johnson pls show me anything like this f21..
they just have floral print crop tops and high waisted jeans..
Vini Johnson recognized by Alexander Wang who does all old stuff ?
Well you might not have liked my reply but now 2 years after this comment Alexander Wang and Isabelle Marant are still doing fashion shoes and Heidi Slimane is out!
Vini Johnson Well, he's back.
Some people really don't know about YSL.
Sorry, this collection is not YSL, maybe YSL's daughter

+NADS IQ The key word in this sentence is "customers", not critics, most fashion critics wear GAP's sale rack, these "cougars" purchase SLP.
NADS IQ lol that has always happened, and there are lots of 20 year people who buy Saint Laurent, maybe not with their own money, but they do.
+Carlos Didjazaá Sánchez WELL SAID
Since Hedi is the designer of Saint Laurent i only like the music and the light instalations he puts on the runways at the beginning
gran desfile exelente coleccion

This collection is absolutely marvelous. But it is not YSL.

Some beautiful blazers, I would buy them if I had the money.
very cool
YSL needs to bring Stefano Pilati back. I don't see luxury or glamour in this collection
I need this song, anyone know who it is?

Kinda Liked The Show, But The Music Selection, So Poor...
Hedi's takeover of YSL has been one long sinister walk along Santa Monica and Sunset Blvd at 3am.
Always one to speak his mind Pierre Bergé more or less massacred every designer who took over the House of YSL and yet strangely he's quiet about Hedi......
Because those pricey baby doll dresses, surprisingly, are making a huge profit. Or so it's said.
how is he quiet? He's done nothing but praise him, look at the interviews for ss13 and fw 13 women.
Completely out of touch. Loved the set. Better than the clothes. : (
Wearable or not, respectful of the YSL archive or not, deeply YSL dna or not, commercial or not... Saint Laurent collections always mean cheap clothes in terms of style.
