Really nice video. Recently I bought Giuletta 2.0 jtdm and I love it. You really helped me with your quick repairs. Yesterday I removed intake hose and found identical oil blob on turbo mouth, which really made me worry. Can't wait to clean MAF sensor and intake parts (working on your car gives a lot od satisfaction). Thanks for making so much helpful content. Cheers.
Great video. The only issue I had was unclipping the MAF sensor:
The yellow lock did not fully release the clip and I had to - very gently - slide a small flat head screwdriver between the clip and the MAF housing to lift the retaining tab (only a tiny bit) over the raised bit of plastic on the MAF housing.
The car is now running smoothly after cleaning the MAF sensor. Thank you.
Awesome... Glad it worked well for you. All the best👍
Prachtige video's ook goed uitgelegd
Thank you. The more recent ones are even better. All the best 👍
great video Tony, i have a problem with my car 1.4 170 HP the engine stalls after starting the car (only after riding it for a while)
dealership told me i have turbo leaking oil and i have to change it and it gonna cost me 70K Egyptian pound and tbh i think i can fix the problem without replacing the turbo, will try to clean the maf sensor and check how bad the oil leakage around the turbo, hope this works for me
Definitely worth a go at cleaning parts first. Check your oil level and keep an eye on it. If it goes down weekly then there could be a leak, but if it doesn’t go down then it would suggest there isn’t one. Good luck. All the best 👍
Really helpful video thanks. Just a quick one - How would you stop oil coming down the pipe in the first place? Fix the breather pipe - new one maybe?
Hi David, there may be some merit in changing out the valve, as my understanding is that the oil is meant to drain back down in to the sump... however when it’s in the vapours, it will inevitably continue through the pipeline pulled by the vacuum. Installing a catch can would help prevent it ending up in the turbo and the MAF, but given how common it is, if you maintain it as in the video, I don’t think it should throw up too many issues.
Thanks for watching and subscribing (if you have). Really appreciate it.
@@vialettotony ahh good shout - didn't think the vapours would continue due to a vacuum being created. I have subscribed and good luck! Thanks
Hello,
Very good video,
A suggestion that I don't know if it is entirely correct,
If you put a catch can and cancel the oil gases, you wouldn't fix it forever?
Ciao Alberto. A catch can will provide a solution that you will need to maintain (empty it sometimes). The oil gases will always happen, as it’s normal for any engine to do this. Thanks for watching and subscribing. Really appreciate it. Grazie. 👍
Very good, yet how is cleaning the pipes gonna solve the oil leaking ?
Hi. It didn’t solve it but regular maintenance and cleaning has made a great difference and I get to care for my G. All the best 👍
Hi, thx for this video😊, i have 1 question:
can we clean the maf with brake cleaner? or something else maybe without having to buy this spray? THANKS
Hi. As it’s a sensitive electrical component, brake cleaner would likely destroy it. I’d recommend getting the correct spray. All the best 👍
Hello,
Very good video!
Did you just clean the hoses and the air flow meter?
Will the air filter get dirty again? Is there a part that needs to be changed at the breather?
Hi Arsim77160, thanks. Yes I just cleaned the hoses and the MAF. The fact that this happens suggests that the breather is working properly, but if you’re happy to remove it then it sure it wouldn’t hurt. The best solution to prevent it happening again would be to install a catch can, but as this is the first time I’ve cleaned it on this car after 60k miles, I’m happy it will be okay. I was suffering from loss of power and the occasional near stall, but this has fixed that completely. Thanks for watching and subscribing (if you have). All the best.
Hi Tony thanks again for the channel you been a massive help this side... Regarding this I checked my giulietta and there is no MAF sensor it's basically one complete pipe all the way down towards the airbox. Is this normal or are the petrol versions different? I'm still gona give it all a clean out though..
Hi Michael. Yes I think some of the petrols are different.
I found a good image that may help from a forum. May be worth a look to help you identify the MAP sensor. Hopefully it’s the right engine. www.alfaowner.com/threads/giulietta-1-75l-boost-manifold-pressure-sensor-location.1189693/#lg=thread-1189693&slide=0
@@vialettotony thanks alot will check it out tomorow see if it's similar.
Great vid again Tony, what did you clean the turbo with?
Hi again Jason. I didn’t use any sprays, just a clean cloth to wipe around the inside. Hope that helps. 👍. Cheers.
Nice video, will have to clean mine as well. I have replaced recently the PCV/breather, as mine was slighly leaking oil on the return to the sump, but boy, that's pain :) Problem is with the flex return hose with long fixed end that should be routed behind the starter. At the end I have ended up loosing up the starter motor and EGR to have space to put thr new PCV into place - I tried for an hour without doing so but with no luck. If you will be doing that, save your time and energy and do it this way straight away ;)
P.S. what year is yours? My 2.0JTDm from end of 2011 does not indicate bonnet opened :)
Hello, thanks for this great video. My qv 2016 has some issues. When going uphill at slow speed, stalls and eventually dies. Also if going not so fast and then have to stop at red light, the RPM drops from 10 to 5 or less, almost dying also. Do you thing it's a maf issue?
Hi Gerardo. That sounds very much like the problems I had. Could be the MAF, although I’m not sure the QV has one, and instead it’s the MAP sensor. They can be cleaned also. Have a look under the bonnet and if you have a MAF see if it’s covered in dirt. Hope that helps. All the best 👍
Hello , Really great video.
What have you used to clean turbo and other hoses ? Like you used MAF cleaner for MAF . Thanks
Hi Surendra. I only used the long brushes and a lint free cloth. No other cleaning products or liquids. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching. 👍
@@vialettotony Thank you 👍
Thanks for the video 👍
My pleasure!!
A la mayoría de vehículos turbo les pasa quedan vapores de aceite dando vueltas y cuando se enfría el motor se licuan
Mine MAF sensor body is also a little oilly. The fact that the outside of the hoses are also oilly, suggest that the clamps are not fully air tight? Did you changed anything or is cleaning once in a while enough?
Hi Tester test. Once in a while cleaning seems to prove sufficient. When I did it in the video, this was the first time in 60k. I had some issues with rough running and near stalling, but this sorted my issue. Didn’t change anything. 👍
Cleaned MAF, pipes and replaced air filter. Couple of weeks on and the is a nasty crunching noise (something akin to walking on gravel) from that area of the engine bay, taken the pipe between the MAF and turbo off and it's covered in oil again.
Any ideas what may be up based on the above?
Oil filter probably needs replacing along with oil but I can't logically see how that would create the noise.
Looking through the comments my best guess is that that the valve on the breather pipe needs replacing. That will stop the oil reaching the turbo which may be trigger the unnerving noise?
Thoughts from those far more experienced than me would be v useful.
Hi clarkie8590. Sorry i've not been able to answer this. Hope you have it sorted? Let me know.... All the best.
Thanks Tony, but I did not get it, is this normal or something should be fixed to address the oil leak?
Hi Bojan. It is normal but regular maintenance to keep it clean will help. I will look at replacing the PCV valve possibly in the future, as that is meant to capture the oil and pass it back in to the engine, rather than it become like vapour which does what we see in the video.
My car was struggling to idle at times and cleaning the MAF and keeping it clean has stopped that happening.
Hope that helps. All the best 👍
The intercooler is probably full of oil
hello my friend. how do you manage to close the clips of intake? i unclip them with a screwdriver but cant manage to clip them again ?? please help me..thank you
Hi. There is a particular tool which I used. I think the part number is somewhere below in one of the comments. Failing that, a set of Sean neck pliers may work or replace them with circlips. Hope that helps. Good luck with it. All the best 👍. Thanks for watching. Really appreciate it.
So Tony where is this pcv valve actually.
Hi. Sorry for taking so long to get back to you. It’s the black round plastic part at the rear on my 2.0 JTDm. Where the hose on that pipe connects to. Hope that helps. All the best 👍
Hi Tony! I have same problem with same engine plus oil consuming. Is that normal and will fix with cleaning only? What do you think? Cheers!
Cleaning mine fixed a problem with rough running. Mine doesn’t consume much oil at all, so probably wouldn’t help solve that much. All the best 👍
@@vialettotony Thanks man, ill try! All best for you too!
@@vialettotony In addition to the fact that the MAF needs to be cleaned, it turned out that the pipe that supplies oil to the turbo is clogged, due to premature shutdown of the engine before the warm part itself has cooled down. Accordingly, the turbo has been running without proper lubrication and cooling, and is now due for recycling, as is the oil feed pipe for replacement. But, it is only available in Italy and I have to wait about a month for delivery. From there, the loss of power and oil consumption was about 1.5 liters from service to service. Of course, I don't have to wait more than a month, they will make a new pipe to order, recycle the turbo and clean the engine. I hope, after these repairs, everything will be fine. Greetings from me, thanks for the tips and keep us happy with your videos with quality content!
@@IvanIvanov-vd8ci i hope you have it fixed. All the best 👍
How do you actually stop the oil seepage Tony?
Hi. Long term maintenance realistically. I’ll hopefully look at replacing the PCV valve outlet filter but it’s a pain to get to. For now I’ll just clean it regularly. Thanks for watching. All the best 👍
@@vialettotony that might explain where my slow oil loss is then. I've got crud around my air box.
@@benismydog Hola, yo también tengo un consumo excesivo de aceite en mi Giulietta jtdm 2.0 140cv y me indican que puede ser el decantado (separador de aceite). Además me indicaron que viese estos videos.
¿Está todo relacionado?
Gracias
Hi Tony, thanks for another great video.
Can you please wear gloves?
Cheers R
Haha. Yep, I bought some the other week and have started to. Thanks for watching.
All the best 👍
Nie wiem kto zaprojektował układ dolotowy, bo silnik mi znany. Mam taki sam. Ale tam zawsze ten olej się wleje. Jeśli to nawet powinno działać, to ja bym sprawdził czy nie za dużo oleju jest w misce. A w przyszłości, jeśli ten silnik będzie trochę zużyty, to sorry, zawsze olej będzie w filtrze powietrza. Masakra za projekt.
Yes i know what you mean. Thanks for watching. All the best 👍Cholera konstrukcja i olej na wlocie. Dobrze ci życzę
