    Finally decided to bite the bullet and upgrade big dirty a little bit so I'm not so tempted to try and buy a wrecked auction 6.7 truck lol My truck ( 2002 Ford F250 Super Duty with the legendary 7.3 Powerstroke turbo diesel ) has recently been down on power and in diagnosing my issues I kept being pointed towards upgrading my HPOP, I spoke with the guys at Full Force diesel and they helped me out on a Set of their most popular 7.3 injectors - Their Stg 1.5 180cc injectors with 30% over nozzles. Paired with the Dieselsite Adrenaline HPOP and the new custom Hydra tunes the truck runs great! I also installed new under valve cover wiring harnesses/ gaskets, bellowed up pipes, and a riff raff diesel Fuel rail crossover FCx kit!
    I still have to upgrade my wastegate actuator to get the boost dialed back in, but even on a lower boost pressure, the truck feels strong!

    Future reference, there’s a plug on the back of each head with a 3/8 square hole. Remove those prior to pulling the injectors and it’ll allow the oil to drain from the passages. Makes for lil to no oil running down into the pistons.

    • @HaydenIngram
      @HaydenIngram 6 років тому +10

      Jacob Miller it's a 1/2 hole. Also there are 2 drains on the oil rail under the valve cover 1/8 Allen and you don't make an oil mess on the back of the engine.

      Doesn’t matter, put the new injectors in and leave the glow plugs out. Turn it over by hand a few times and you’re good.

    I have a 99 f250 crew 7.3l, n been a great truck with only 78k on it. Yet being a role paradog n retired field mechanic I don't enjoy allot of mechanic work. I had mice n red squirrels tear it up some, so war as been declared. 12 count at present, these aren't fox squirrels, their those little red squirrels up in northern Michigan. I hate killing critters, but I got too, the damage alone is well over 1k. Wife's truck had 6k damage from mice inside.
    Wish you lived by me, cuz I'd let you fix it. Laugh. Thanks for the video, enjoyed it. Ty

    You need a boost fooler for your truck. It will stop the truck from defueling when it builds a certain amount of boost. I have one on my 7.3. I can push 25 pounds of boost no problem and its stock turbo with just a tuner

    • @jeremyk8166
      @jeremyk8166 7 років тому

      you dont need boost foolers anymore unless he had a crappy tuner that didnt know how to write it out of the tune

    • @YamahaRider280
      @YamahaRider280 7 років тому

      Dylan Duncan hahahaha unplugging the wastegate will build even more boost 😂 a boost fooler stops the truck from de fueling when the computer sees too much boost (usually around 20psi) it cuts the fuel... unplugging the waste gate would not stop the truck from de fuelling from over boost codes haha it would only make the problem worse
      Or like I said before, good tunes will not need a boost fooler because they write that over boost code out of the ecm

    Pull the line off the wastegate and see if make boost then. If not you have a damaged turbo or leaking air somewhere. Don’t leave the wastegate unplugged. Prob just need to adjust the wastegate because the anti-surge housing might be a different length for the waste-gate. You could get the banks big-head or similar if you can’t get it adjusted right. Cheers

    After you get your boost issues sorted, check your trans fluid pressure. There are three fluid feed bolts (not sure if that's the correct name) under the valve body that a prone to coming loose.

    HPOP Head crossover is definitely a good longevity & performance investment with what you have going. In steps, I'd go with that first. Then throw that GTP38R turbo on. Make sure you get it with a Riff raff Diesel boost regulator. This will allow the turbo to spool into the mid-30 PSI range without the ECM defueling the engine (factory boost regulator defuels at approximately 23 PSI) and as long as you drive it easy your trans should last long enough to have it rebuilt for performance. With the trans you'll want Raybestos Z-Pak clutches (good) or RacerX clutches (best) a billet torque converter (if you can afford triple disk, you'll thank yourself later but not an end all be all), TransGo Tugger shift kit or the even greater John Wood valve body kit. Billet shafts are always cool but it won't kill you to stick with the stock steels if it's not in your budget to drop $6k on trans parts.

    Word of advice, delete your EBPV, mine is deleted, and I just did the delete in a 99 7.3 and it helps a lot. The kit I go with comes with new pedestal, valve delete on the back of the turbo right before the exhaust, up pipes gaskets and hardware but you’ll also need new 3” plenum inlets and couplers off the intake manifold

    High Pressure oil crossover tube is a good idea. their is a small crossover port in the pump but a larger hose/tube near the rear is a good way to equalize your ICP between the heads. also may want to look into those IDM Codes the early IDM's where 110v the later where 120v and swamps makes a 140v. that voltage is what activates/opens your injectors. unfortunately their is no easy way to test the outout voltage without a scope, but you can back probe the input with a multimeter and make sure engine running it is getting battery voltage. may have corrosion in the feed wire or a arced up relay causing resistance/voltage drop. ford/navistar addressed this in the 6.0l and you can monitor input and oputput voltages with a scan tool but no luck for the 7.3 crowd.
    also may want to check your Exhaust back pressure/EBP, Boost/MAP , and Barometric pressure/BARO Readings KOEO and make sure they all correlate as well as seeing what they look like KOER. the EBP Tubes are known clog with soot as well as Rust out/Break. may explain your boost issues
    how old are your ICP and Crank Sensors. unplug the ICP and check for oil in the connector they are known to bypass internally and cause issues. the Crank sensors are known to go out and cause no start/long crank as well as idle/decel issues. its a fairly cheap sensor and easy to swap out.

    For future reference it is dangerous to bump the engine over like that when changing injectors, it's better then turn it over by hand at the crank with a wrench. Never use ether it'll kill a 7.3. And lastly with all the upgrades you may want to look into a NAPA 6637 Intake.

    • @cencoast_7.340
      @cencoast_7.340 5 років тому

      It’s fine to crank it over like that when changing injectors. I know many diesel mechanics that have done it that way forever. A Napa filter will give you more clean HOT air, do a proper cold air intake the first time around.

      The 6.7 has been on the market for 9 years now. It's a solid engine. Just like when the 7.3 became the SuperDuty, people had to figure out a whole new engine because it was a big departure from the IDI motor that preceded it. The more you read about them, ask questions etc, it's just another V8 diesel.

    Like an old pissed off freight train firing up! Weird that the boost didn't go up with the bigger tune. Even though mines totally different being a LBZ Duramax with VVT mine is 23psi stock but when I turn it up to my race tune it hits 34psi. So could be your waste gate actuator is getting tired. Great video! Glad to see Big Dirty isn't going anywhere anytime soon😎

    Your hpop pressure should be around 2800 psi that's a healthier pump.

    The 7.3 will only build up to 25psi and if you build more than that it will throw a over boost code and start cutting fuel

      a good tuner should have written that out of the ecm, no need for boost foolers these days

    I've always heard you should do the 6637 air filter upgrade since the stick air box is a joke on those things.

      It lets more clean air in for sure but then you’re sucking hot air in too. Get a cold air kit if you want to do it right.

    Think if you would have bought the single shots from swamps you can just mail them your sct tuner and they will install all your new tunes.

    Knowing you have to change the timing for the injectors to shoot different, is there a tune specifically for that With the hydra tune?

      Walk Neztsosie You receive tunes when your order your injectors from Full Force. You can also have custom tunes emailed to you from custom tuners like 1023 Jelibuilt and SDK.

    Honestly man, i dont think you should go to a newer diesel... whats the point of buying that shit when it get the same mpg and cost twice as much to fix. If i were you, if stick with the 7.3. She's been treating you right so far! Best of luck!
