I knew nothing about this movie going in and loved it. It had a couple of flaws but overall I was along for the ride and it was spectacularly shot.

I understand that this was a lot for a movie I haven't seen. But it sounds like they stuck close to the book. Which was fantastic. And I'm now excited to see the movie

Is the book called The Dry as well? It sounds like something I would enjoy.

So glad y’all reviewed this, I saw it last night and was looking for your review. I thought it was decent, drags a little in the middle but it’s good to see Eric Bana back on screen.

I thought the trailer looked interesting. But when Joseph said the story is dry, I cracked up! I know what you mean.
I live for your reviews, more than I do for movies!!!

I liked the film overall, but for the amount of hype it was getting, I was a bit disappointed at the same time. I thought it was slow at first. Then I started getting more interested in the second half, and then that really tacked-on ending with the diary was disappointing. I thought it was well-acted, and it looked nice, and when things got tense, they got really tense. Though the whole "guy revisits small town so many years later he has bad history with" aspect felt a bit familiar, for me, so it took a bit for me to get really invested. Wasn't a bad watch overall for me, but I was expecting more. Great review!

Just watched this film today and was curious what others thought of it.. Such a great movie review especially that you guys didn't have much to work with 😂 and especially love the guy on the left who made me laugh at some of the things he said lol

For two guys that didn't take notes and didn't like the film you sure knew all about it and took the time to discuss it quite thoughtfully

Let’s be real, the plot would’ve immediately improved if Aaron Falk’s romantic tension was with the cop instead of Gretchen, but hey, I guess I’ll settle for the overarching Australiana. 🤷‍♂️

Idk why this movie is labeled a thriller tho. There’s almost no action or thrills in it.. its more of a straight up crime mystery. Which isn’t a bad thing by any means.

Great movie, very well acted and how the past intertwined with the future was very well done. I found one part was telling- the neighbour didn't tell Aaron he was gay, hiding his relationship due to the small town. This was the same reason why Luke made up the story in the past with Aaron.

The movie wasn’t great but you guys are looking *really* good today. Great outfits that work well with the lighting/background (your skin and beards are looking fantastic!). Your production value is going up along with how smooth your joint delivery has become.

Thanks so much for reviewing this and summarizing. I didn't really understand the motive of Scott. I honestly didn't even realize he was a principal, and that Karen worked at the school. Maybe I just wasn't paying attention close enough, but the movie jumped around so often. I was still confused at the end of why he did it. I also thought the movie had potential, but ended up disappointed to me

So glad I watched this review! I'm Australian and everyone was raving about this book when it came out. I started reading it but just couldn't get into the story. I thought about watching the movie instead, but I think I'll give it a miss. I love your channel!

I think a better ending would be Luke being innocent of killing his wife and child, BUT guilty of killing Ellie and only we the audience find that out at the end, with the whole town still thinking Aaron is guilty. Aaron leaves town. The end.

Sounds like too many cooks in this movie ahaha. And all this rabbit talk reminds me of the campy ass also dry movie THE LEPUS. If you want to see killer giant rabbits and the cutest tiny props meant to make the rabbits look HUGE even though they aren't it's perfect for a bottle of wine movie night

Great honest review, I really agree with your take on it. It was sort of like a Jack Reacher wannabe story populated by heavily medicated cliche Ozzie characters. Seemed a bit contrived, and the hinted at incest trope was a bit hackneyed. Happening to find that backpack was a real cop out. It all was a bit dry and daft. As if the brother Grant didn't really know what his inbred father was getting up to with his sister, or maybe he was part of it.
Really all very forgettable, and drawn out and silly.
Excellent review, good point about maybe it should have been played for laughs, the dialogue is hilariously moronic at times for starters.

I don’t really feel the backpack was a cop out. It was set up earlier in the film that that’s where he found the bracelet and they first kissed, so it makes sense Aaron went there at the end.

This movie was all over the place. And SLOW. The payoff at the end wasn't enough. And yes, 20% of the movie consists of flashbacks which somehow achieved to tell TOO MUCH yet NOT ENOUGH simultaneously.
