khajuraho temples were in active use through the end of the 12th century. This changed in the 13th century; after the army of Delhi Sultanate, under the command of the Muslim Sultan Qutb-ud-din Aibak, attacked and seized the Chandela kingdom. They destroyed temples as much as they could. You would notice many idols are without their heads. there were once 85 temples but now only 25. Many of the largest ones like Beejaymandal and Ghantai were completely destroyed. The main missing statue is Hari Hara statue now in a british museum. India has made many requests to UK to return them but the British refused.
please visit to Sun Temple in Konark Odisha india. in the temple there are Chariot wheels which are actually sundials they give accurate time event today after 800 years the temple was built. most of the temple complex have been totally destroyed by foreign invaders but remaining part have more erotic statues than all of the Khajuraho temples combined. the temple also has many beautiful educational sculptures for all ages. there were huge magnets placed in the temple which made main Idol of the Sun deity to float in the air without any support for centuries before they were destroyed by invaders. it is one of the most beautiful architecture.
@@timtense Indeed. There are plenty of natural diverse landscapes and man made heritages destinations across India, which is not possible to cover in one Trip. You got to visit many times to understand India and Indian Culture.
There are four Purusharth (moral goals of person) of life according to Vedic texts - Dharma ( Righteous Duty ) Artha ( Material progress ) Kama ( Pleasure ) Moksha ( Liberation ) So temple outside walls depicts three of the Purusharth and also human desires due to human delusion but to go inside i.e to attain moksha (assimilation with cosmic energy) so when you go inside Garbha griha (Sacro Sanctum) where life creating force or energy being worshipped the wall remains blank.
They took selfie with you because you are from other country and we all from village. your physical appearance is a little different from the rest of us So suddenly they would be surprised to see And they can't stop their self and they will present the photo with you as a proof that they also went to visit Khajuraho😁😊
in India more south you go more grand and beautiful the temples you see. if you visit state of Tamil Nadu there are lots of exceptional architecture of unbelievable beauty thousands of years old made of granite rocks some have been through invasions, natural calamities and still standing.
