  • Let's go to the Xenia, Ohio sports card show on Saturday, May 11, 2024.
    The TripleCrown24 UA-cam channel is focused around one dealer's journey through the hobby via card shows, discourse with fellow hobbyists, and grading submission reveals. Today's video recaps the buy/sell/trade transactions from my most recent card show.

    Loving this bozo at 10:00. It is not any dealer's responsibility to make sure someone else can make money on their inventory.

      Exactly. Don’t need to hear the repacker stuff and explanation. Just move on.

    These guys nickel and dime and then overprice stuff in thier repacks

      Some of them do but those are usually the guys who don't end up shaking hands with me.

      I'm someone who shakes hands with JT..... a lot. And... this comment is just wrong. A lot of the times im buying from JT for repacks.... I'm spending $200 on a single card to make $5 on it. The narrative that repackers can just pay whatever number they want and make infinite profit is just unfactual.

    • @joelkaplan2157
      @joelkaplan2157 3 місяці тому

      @bbcardwiz1016 the fact of the matter is we have to have buy lot of cards to get discounts and your choosing sometimes only the best of the best stuff I'm not saying every repacker is crooked but just like u have tricks to your trade 😉 telling the dealer what u can pay isn't his problem 😉

    • @bbcardwiz1016

      @joelkaplan2157 not sure I follow all that.... but...that is my approach most times. I ask for 80 to 85% comps on the pile I make. If the dealer can give it to me then great. If the dealer can't and it's a card I want then I consider paying 85% to 110% comps. Sometimes i will do this but most of the time to stay profitable, i won't go above paying 85%. You saw this in the video. The very first buyer said i can give you $X for the card ...JT said i can only do X + $10. Buyer passed. But I don't know what the issues are in any of what I'm saying. Whether I'm a collector spending 2k with a dealer or a repack buyer spending 2k with a dealer.... it doesn't matter my end game with the cards. It's just a buyer to dealer transaction. But I do agree... anybody starting off a negotiation trying to get 70% comps in today's repacker world is either going to get laughed away from the table or walk home empty handed ... or both. Offering 70% is just ludicrous and I don't even start there. You do have to remember though not every repacker is the same. Small breakers and small whatnot or tiktok channels do have small margins. If their breaks are less attended then their break spots go for less and they need more room. I'm assuming the guy at the 10 min mark is a single dude with his own small breaking biz. Bigger time channels with more income can pay stronger and afford to withstand breaks that lose money easier.

    Ive been seeing this a lot lately. Guys saying that they need stuff at a certain percentage. The table gets the percentage deals not the buyer. Some room is good business but im not gonna lose just because you want cheap prices.

      It's becoming more commonplace. Last month, we had a guy ask my friend "what % are you willing to sell your downtowns at?" Can't say I've had that asked of me or anything like that until recently.

    To be fair your table was fairly priced but,All these comments about prices and nickel and diming I’ve been going to this local show for years and the past 3-4 shows a majority of dealers there are at at least 150%+ of comps and nobody was buying that’s why 50% of the dealers packed up way early. Always two sides to every story man!!

    • @TripleCrown24
      @TripleCrown24  3 місяці тому

      I think you bring up some valid points. Every show I've been to has a cluster of guys who are notoriously overpriced. Therefore, when you do get someone who is fair on prices and has cards that are in demand, there's a level of frustration. On the other hand, I can imagine when you go to your local show and try to reason with people who are simply unreasonable on their prices, it gets tedious after awhile. You might even stop going as often or entirely at a certain point. There are certainly two sides to it. Thank you for your comment!

    Enjoy the content! Keep up the great work. It’s terrific to see the dealer POV standing up to the buyers who state where they “need to be”. As a fellow dealer, I’ve reached the point where I’ll go as low as 95%, no more, of a fair comp, not the lowest comp, as I’m often “educated” on at shows. Dealer fees and time have to be considered. Saving buyers on shipping is fair enough discount. I had someone recently tell me he needed to buy at 70% for it to work for him. I told him I couldn’t even come close and 95% would be my best. He said that does him no good and walked. Someone else came along and bought some of what he was interested in at close to my sticker. It pays to wait and not give in to this percentage of comps thing. I just politely tell buyers what they do with the cards after they purchase from me is not something I can play a part in. The cards will sell to someone else, especially if they’re in demand.

      Thank you for your continued support of the channel! The being "educated" thing you talked about is a pet peeve of mine, I would guess the same for you based on the way you worded your sentence. Some people come up to show me the last sale on 130pt as if I don't have access to the same information lol.

      They certainly do. Thankfully the other crowd is usually late to the game because my regulars get there early and come over to me as soon as I'm open for business. By the time some of the clowns come by I've been cherry picked several times over lol.

    Can you not get vet autos and older game used stuff? Or are margins so tight on that stuff? Or does it just not move for you?

    • @TripleCrown24
      @TripleCrown24  3 місяці тому +1

      Great question. The vet autos move, albeit a little slower. The problem I run into is the guys who have that stuff "know what they have" or aren't as motivated to sell it at a price that would make sense for me.

    It's great seeing how you think thru trades. Do you mind sharing which apps you use to do comps? Most times when I go to shows, I can never get any of the ones I use to work with how bad internet connection is at most shows, which is wild to me.

      I use a combination of Terapeak, Cardladder, and Alt. Really depends on the card and/or what I'm looking for. Sometimes I want a better picture of the market as a whole.

      Any current football player with any ounce of potential and no serious legal issues, wide receivers, Elly De La Cruz, and Anthony Edwards lol. There are certain collectors who come up looking for certain things, but they are usually the only ones looking for those guys/teams.
