Kasparov has said many times that if the metric is how dominant a player is over his contemporaries, then Fischer is easily the greatest of all time.😮
Ruy Lopez was, since his competition was so weak? As for this game, MC blundered in time trouble trying too hard to win to help his team. Still, Big Fish did well.
That's his opinion, but I think a longer stretch of being number one is more valuable than peaking for a few years. Kasparov's total time at #1 is more than twenty years in total; Carlsen has been #1 for nearly fifteen years.
