Gabriel is a no nonsense all out kind of defender and Arteta allows him to be like that because he has Saliba behind him. They are both incredible defenders.

I think Murillo for Forest deserves a shout. He's very young and has been solidly good for his first season in a big jump in terms of leagues.

Both ake and akanji have only started 20 games in the prem this season and 90% of akes have been at left back while half of akanjis are at fullback? playing 10 games at cb isnt enough to make a list

Besides the tuck in to move a back 3 whilst stones drops into midfield or even sometimes Akanji does that. I follow city alot. Each and everyone of us know that Dias don't belong in that top 10 on performances this season

How has this injury not stopped vandijk… not praying on his downfall but what a machine, I used to hate hearing this “aura” thing but until now I still see players litrally flop and get nervous when 1v1 with him. What a player . I wish to see him in that 2000- 2010 era.

Gabriel was better than Saliba last season. I said this. And I said it again this season. Salibas PR is insane that Rolls Royce comment really convinced people.

No, he wasn't. Last season Saliba played basically mistake-free all season, where as Gabriel had some poor performances in the mix as well - even if not too many. Gabriel has been significantly better this season than he was last season, though, and i do agree that he's currently in a better form than Saliba
Van dijk is a step above than every single one of these CBs. The fact that he is playing with kids in the backline like Quansah and Bradley and 3rd choice full back Gomez and also 2nd choice Goalie behind him and still be so dominant just shows how beast of a Cb he is. Truly an all time great.
That season he lost out to Messi in the Ballon d'Or by like 6 or 7 points was the most impressive defensive season I've ever seen by a CB. The craziest stat about VVD's dominance was that he had a 3 year stretch where he never lost at Anfield.... 3 Years... He was basically out there replicating Mourinho's 1st Chelsea team.
That back line of Trent, Matip, VVD, Robertson with Allisson behind them might genuinely have been the best 'Back 5' in the history of the league. Every single one of them was the best player in the world in their position for 18-24 months.

Villa fan. Pau Torres has 100% been our best CB this season. The time he was out with injury we missed him at the back heavy and that’s when there were dips in form (Lenglet 🤦🏾♂️). Konsa is good but the stability, calm and passing going forward Pau gives takes him way clear

I think Gomes from wolves deserves a shout not a wolves fan but the few times I’ve seen him play he’s looked good also Johnny evans for Man U when not injured has surprisingly been consistently good considering how old and slow he is
Ethan Pinnock walks into this list when he’s fit. Saved Brentford countless times despite only being a non-league player a few years ago, just so underrated. Plus he looks a bit like Snoop Dogg which is insane.

Genuine question, no hate. Why does everyone just default put VVD at first this season? Has he actually been better Gabriel and if so how/why? I truly dont see how he's been better, Gabriel has been faultless in the best defense in world football this season

With arsenal’s goal conceded record since January there is no way that VVD has been better than Saliba and Gabriel. Just ridiculous in my opinion.

Nathan Ake is so underrated, it’s criminal.
I think the issue with mentioning the spurs centre backs has been injuries and sending offs.
Romero has been sent off a few times and Ven has been injured alot and that knocks points off.
Gabriel has been better than Saliba this season and has just been insane and i say that as a city fan.
Honestly Dias hasn't been amazing this season its been Akanji again.

The fact Fabian schar and Sven Botman don’t even get a mention is a disgrace schar is up there with the best in the league
Schar has genuinely been one of Newcastle's best players this season before his injury, incredibly consistent defensively (even when we've lost it's never usually been because of him or his mistake), his passing ability is so underrated and the fact he's been scoring regularly this season too (he's joint second for goals scored for defenders), he's honestly so overlooked
Most other fans mentioned Botman but Schar has been immense

I would personally put Fabian Schar on the list. Watched him and Newcastle yesterday and for me easily man of the match. Commanding, lead from the back and the main reason they won the match. Also a goal threat as well. Their best defender this season.

Gabriel is currently a better athletic defender than VVD, but VVD's leadership, aura, the confidence he inspires, and how so many of our goals he is performs the assist for the assist. Plus his ability to come up clutch goals, assists or defensive actions is what just gives him the edge over Gabriel.
For a one off game, like a Champion's League final you'd take Gabriel, but for a Premier League season you'd take VVD.
Even though VVD got sent off this season and did do poorly against Arsenal this season, I gotta give it to him. Gabriel and Saliba are right there too though

Manchester City’s players hardly ever get in these tier lists because of the argument that they never play the same role. But that’s just how intelligent Guardiola is in that instead of buying a lot of players he just buys a few but that can play multiple roles. This is also why Manchester City hardly have injuries because of the rotations Guardiola can make game per game to rest players. He has 10 players that can play more than one position

I would pick Akanji over Konate
VVD has been amazing this season and specially after he came from that injury that everybody thought finished him off but if we are talking about the best this season Gabriel and Saliba should be above him they are playing phenomenal this season and specially Gabriel. There is a reason why Liverpool haven’t got the best defense in the league and that’s thanks to them
There's a difference between a pairing and as individuals. Vvd has had different partners this season as well has a different keeper behind him. He single handedly dragged us to a trophy with kids around him. No other cb in the world would be able to do that. Liverpool play more risky football than arsenal putting him in harder situations. Personally vvd doesn't belong in this discussion. He's 10x better than any cb on this list and is with the greats
