Thanks for taking the time to show some of the new grillers/smokers out there how to "season" their grill/smoker. Hope you have many years of cooks on your new smoker. 👍🏻
The initial clean and oiling is uneccessary. Just start your season fire and go. The owners manual clearly says interior comes with veg oil coat. Hey it's your grill but you are over thinking it. I do agree with reseasoning again the next day and periodic reseasoning after that. Happy cooking.
Beautiful rig brother. I’m looking really hard it this offset cooker. I’ve been cooking on ceramics and pellet grills for over 30 years. Now that I’m retired and have the time I want to delve into the offset cooker world.
Great video Ken. I went and purchased the same model. Got mine from Home Depot already assembled. I wanted the one in box to assemble myself. Unfortunately the lid on my fire box doesn’t close all the way. It’s probably half an inch from shutting and it’s messing with my charcoal life as the gap feeds too much air into it. Was wondering if you knew anything about that. Thanks alot for the video.
Oh wow… I would think that this is an issue. Mine seals up pretty good. You may have a talk with Home Depot or perhaps sending Char-Griller a message. They may swap out a fire box. Couldn’t hurt to ask. Thanks so Much for commenting!
Great video. I ordered mine today and it will be fun to learn an offset coming from a Weber smokey mountain and a UDS. I've seen a lot of "seasoning" videos and everyone has a different preference for the type of oil (veg, grapeseed, avocado, etc). Now that we are a year out from this video, would you have used a different oil or process? I want to keep mine looking new (free from rust and external patina) for as long as I can. I just wonder if a high-smoke-point oil would be better or not. Thoughts? Appreciate your content! God Bless
Hi Ken. I just subscribed to your channel. I love your content. I’m about to buy this smoker, I’m about to purchase it myself. They warned me to just use it as a smoker & not a grill, any idea as to why? Is it still working just fine for you?
Hi William. I have no ideal why that would be. Mine does well as both a smoker and a grill. Granted, I primarily use mine as a smoker, but that is because I also have Weber Kettle and that is easier to use as a grill, but I have used the Offset as a grill with no issues. Thanks for watching and thanks for the sub!
Hi Mr. Rogers. I meant answer sooner. Thank you for getting back to me so quickly. I’m glad you’ve had no issues with it using it as a grill. Again, I love your content & hope you do more with the Char Griller, I hope the best for you in your channel sir. God bless you.
I can't do any measuring at the moment, but here is a link to this smoker online. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching! www.chargriller.com/collections/offset-smokers/products/grand-champ-offset-smoker

Thanks Larry! It is an important step that many skip.
Congrats, Ken!!! That beast is a beauty! I can’t think of parting with my 16 year old standard CharGriller, but you’re tempting me!
Lol… I had a lot of great cooks on my old char-grilled. I’m pretty excited about this on though.
Pretty Sweet Ken! Tons of space! And I can't wait to see some cooks on this!!! I'll be upgrading this year too! Can't wait!!!
I really missed that firebox… I’m pretty happy with this smoker.

Thanks, Ron… I’m loving this thing!

I think I like this new xd versions
I like it a lot! It's heavier built than the other Char-Grillers but still not so expensive like some of the others. Thanks!

I know you are enjoying that smoker.
Yes I am! It is a beast! Lol
CharGriller recommends spraying the outside too every once in awhile.
Yes... that is correct. You basically treat it like a good cast iron skillet. Thanks for watching!

Great Video! What are the dimension of each rack, diameter of firebox and main chamber? Thanks, can't find them online.

The site has no specifics. My apologies for implying I don't know about the interweb.
Did you leave in the heat deflector plate?
Yes, I sure did. Thanks for watching!
I know this video is a year old but I'm pretty sure that oil you cleaned off the grates is cooking oil purposely put on by the manufacturer.
America
Darn tootin’ America!
Awesome video
Thank you!
