Sounds like a nice exercise, but I'm not quite sure how to do the rasp thing. From what I've learned by youtube vocal coaches, you're supposed to go into your mixed voice while doing vocal fry and holding back your breath, except that sounds horrible when I do it. Perhaps because to me mixed voice is really just a smooth transition between head and chest voice, not really sure if it's supposed to feel differently, but let's say what I'm trying to do is maintain vocal fry on relatively high note while not using much air. What it ends up sounding like is a 70 year old grandma with asthma trying to sing.

that rasp is false fold or false cord engagement
you can look up false cord screams or mongolian throat singing tutorials for that

Lara, I´d like to ask you one thing about the rasp voice: Do you make it always on "mask" vocals, almost like an "exaggerated" twang, so to speak?
I mean... When I do my rasp, I feel an inbetween falsetto and belting, you know what I mean? It´s like the "sweet spot" is on 50%, you know? Not totally "active" vocals and not totally "passive" vocals... Hope you get what I mean and can confirm to me if it feels right :)
But I never feel any pain or straining, and I can sing like Bruce Dickinson or Dio for 2 hours long, all ok, because I personally use rasp in vowels with A, E, EY, OH, and so on, you know? Not in the entire phrasing.
I believe much more in the power of rasp when used in certain points of each phrase, instead of an entire phrase :)
I mean... Taking Dio as an example... Gates Of Babylon, from Rainbow...
    "Look away from the sea
I can take you A ny WHERE" (the caps lock are the rasp vocals on specific syllabes).
Anyway... I think I´m somehow doing it right, ´cause I´m a self-taught, and had some lessons with a great brazilian vocal coach, Ariel Coelho.
But, I´m always researching and learning more and more from amazing singers and coaches like you :D
Thank you so so much, Lara!
PS: EDIT: To reach my rasp, I also make a lot of support and glottal compression, but not tensioning my vocal folds..
It´s like I´m turning on my "swallowing" muscles, and cleaning/opening my throat at the same time, while I almost sing in falsetto below, but with a liiiitle more tension.
And feel that motor BRRRBRRBRBRRRRR rumble haahah!!! Do you feel that too?
    Bests,
    Mauro
