Lauren Faust is a huge Star Trek fan, so there's actually a lot of references. Discord's character is based on a similar character from ST:TNG named Q. He's even voiced by the same guy, John DeLancie.

I'd like to add - Rarity's wings evaporating in Sonic Rainboom (when she got too close to the sun) was an illusion to Icarus's wings of wax melting when he got too close to the sun in the Greek myths.

Does anyone else find it odd that the Cinderella comparison that she turned the mice into horses, when they are still technically horses themselves?
Its dirt common for cartoons to be loaded with references.
but I must admit, many MLPFiM's references are rather well done so they don't just jump out and slap you in the face and yell "HEY IM AN OBVIOUS REFERENCE HERE!"

The Swan Princess (not the black swan) was NOT a Disney film. I love that movie, and I love Disney, but the two are unrelated.
Watching this actually has convinced me that the scene where daisy faints and the bunnies run around her is actually closer to the scene from Alpha and Omega when Kate is knocked out in the stampede near the end of the movie. It has a very similar zoom-out effect and almost identical laying down position.
You missed one, from the bird in the hoof episode there was an alice and wonderland reference with angle running with the clock and fluttershy saying im late for a very important date
The first episode. Great introductions to characters, fun plot all in all a good pilot episode. It definetly got me and many others hooked.

There are indeed many references in the show, but some of these moments are just humorous coincidences, such as the bunny stampede or Rarity's green hair. Others, however, are intentional. Twilight being contestant number 42, for instance, is a little joke about how she's essentially studying the meaning of life.
Love the Team Fortress 2 Medic. Combine with ponies and you just made my day. :3
don't forget, the song "At the Galla" is a reference to the song "Into the Woods" from the musical, well, "Into the Woods"
and "art of the dress" is a reference to "putting it together" from Sunday in the Park with George
Several of these are either not showing the best clips to showcase the similarity, or they're just not very convincing.
The Cinderella one was kind of obvious.
Not sure if anyone already got it, but "A Dog and Pony Show" also contains a reference to The Lone Ranger towards the end. The scene in question has Spike shouting "Hi ho, Twilight, away!"

3:02 I can understand why you would think that the Pokemon Rapidash is what Hasbro was refferencing to in this episode, but on the other hand, it could have actually been from the game "U.N. Squadron", or more specifically, the series based off of it called "Area 88". The main character in that series is a man named "Shin Kazama" who pilots a jet fighter, and on the tail of his plane is his symbol, which is a white unicorn with a firey mane.

The bunny stampeed, while also referencing Mufasa's Death... is ALSO in itself a reference to a horror movie "Night of the Lepus" which has a stampede scene with giant rabbits.
dont forget into the woods reference in season 1 finale and "secret to my excess"'s spirited away reference!

A few of those I can agree with, such as the two references to Cinderella and Mufasa's Death, however a lot of those were pretty big stretches, like the one about the X-men or Rarity as The Joker.
A well done list! I don't know if this actually would fit on there but, the scene where Princess Celestia's sister arrives in the very first episode is extreamly similar to the opening of Disney's Sleeping Beauty where Malificent arrives and puts a curse on the princess.
Great compilation. I don't think any of these are /that/ farfetched - I'd even say there are some more to add, if you're ever thinking of doing a "Seasons 1 & 2" remake -- the Benny Hill song in Episode 3, Pinkie as Pepe Lepiu in episode 5, and the X-Men (I'm pretty sure) posing in episode 7 immediately come to mind. Very nice job, though. I didn't even think of half of these.

I've read about all of these the point is best driven when you see and hear them side by side.
One thing that never gets mentioned is that in Applejack's number in Fall Weather Friends is 8. While 42 is originally from the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, 8 and 42 are two of the numbers from LOST. That's what I noticed at least.
A show referencing other shows is not uncommon nor a bad thing. A nod toward popular past works is considered a good thing because you're paying tribute/respect to that work by acknowledging its quality and/or popularity.

Even if some were mere coincidences, they sure do connect anyway-& might've been intentional in SOMEone's head, though others weren't aware.
Not to mention the musical-derived songs, Pocahontasness of Over a Barrel, general Disney princess/Magic Kingdom feel of Canterlot/the Gala; Rainbow's "I Love Lucy"-esque royal guard teasing in "A Bird in the Hoof" (there've been more ILL moments since.)

Not sure if this was in season one, but in Bridle Gossip, Spike is seen wearing a pan on his head and holding a frying pan, the TF2 soldier CAN wear a cooking pot on his head AND also use a frying pan as a weapon, maybe a coincidence, but there was another that I can't remember.

the 42 thing was quite possibly a reference, since "the eggheads guide to running" is a book from "hitchhikers guide to the galaxy" and 42 was shown while that book was mentioned.
the disney logo is also possible, the similarity is uncanny.

yes, back in '98 when the pokemon franchise landed here. Comparing the reaction from twilight in MLP, Rapidash does not become enraged before becoming lit, as opposed to every single instance in Dragonball, where the saiyans channel their chi and their hair stands on end in a "golden flame".
Saito Chikara Yes, but it LOOKED like Rapidash, with the fire mane and cream fur and a horn n' stuff. It doesn't really look like a super saiyan what so ever...

Reasons this show isn't only for little girls:
1. The Old school references can be seen almost everywhere,and I doubt 4-5 year old girls will ever understand the references.
2. That one scene with Fluttershy breaking a bear's neck.

You forgot "Daedalus and Icarus". They made wings to flee from their exile but Icarus flew to high and his wings, made of wax and feathers, melted in the sun. Rarity flies too high, too, and her wings are destroyed by the heat, too. :D

The one you referenced for storm i think fits for cyclops more. With Celestia being Jeanne Gray. Cyclops was angered as school and fired lazers, causing his powers to be destructive, then came Jeanne Gray and she stopped his power with Phoniex. Twilight was angered at the test, her powers at first helped, then hurt everyone, until Celestia put her hoof on her shoulder and like Jeanne, stopped her powers, stopping her eyes from glowing. Over analyzed, but it fits more.
