The lions thing was pretty prevalent in Europe, they were considered symbols of royalty and strength. I remember reading when Mary Queen of Scots moved into Holyrood Palace, there was an empty lion pen. She thought keeping them was cruel and costly and opted not to get one until her husband Lord Darnley insisted on it as a show of royal power over the Scottish people.
If I remember correctly, King Richard charged Prince John with causing a foul stench in the monarchy. For that reason, he decreed that all the toilets in the kingdom were to called johns. He then imprisoned Prince John in the Tower of London and made him part of the tour. Right after that he knighted Robin of Locksley and kissed Maid Marian before allowing them to get married. It’s good to be the king.
I'd forgotten that there used to be a menagerie at the Tower of London - very interesting and entertaining video! Excuse me, but there is no evidence that definitely points to Richard III as being the murderer of his nephews. Also, princes, unless they suddenly changed their gender.
