since rei's father has treated him as nothing more than a sniper, a commodity, what rei did to himself at the finale was narratively the best thing he could've done. such a great finale! thank you for reacting to this, it's truly one of my favorites.
They really could have stretched this and rode the genre interest that Spy Family put out there. And I would have loved that, I would have loved 3 seasons and a movie. But the fact they made it this good, concise, short, and sweet in one season speaks to how amazing this show was.
Well that’s the point it gets boring after a while if you stretch things out too much, the fact that they were able to keep the series short and cohesive says a lot about it’s producers and writers. And I honestly prefer this approach way more than what Spyxfam is doing so yea this was overshadowed by SxF but imo it’s better from a writing standpoint.
One great detail is that if you see the pictures of the years between when Miri was a kid and the final scene when she's a teenager, Kyu appears in at least one of them.
Love the little detail - during the fight with Ogino Rei loses his hair tie and gets his "domestic Rei" hair back, and that's how he faces his father , not a sniper killer Rei, but Rei papa 😊
When this show ended I had been kiiiiind of disappointed that there wouldn't be a season 2 of the three of them avoiding various Suwa Family goons etc while establishing their new lives (especially since this show is anime original and there's no manga to go read), but then my fanfic-reading brain went "It's free real estate," and opened AO3. 😉
this isn't technically 'canon' but the director has said in an interview (or was it just on twt I honestly don't remember, it was quite a while ago) that Rei's father eventually gave up and actually accepted them as a family, he even gifted Miri her first backpack when she entered elementary school and ended up actually being quite a doting grandfather lol
There is art from one of the illustrators/animators (unsure honestly) where you can see Rei's father gifting Rei a school bag but it can also be considered as "fanart" so it's not exactly confirmed
No, that's not canon in the slightest. As someone else has stated, there is fanart from an illustrator that works at P.A. Works, but I've never seen or heard of that interview with the director. All the official interviews were posted on the Buddy Daddies website and I don't recall any of them mentioning anything about this.
@@LilyGinnyBlack35 lemme try to look this up cause I remember quite clearly the transcript of an interview that came out quite shortly after the show ended where she acknowledged that art and said she would consider it canon
That was a great rewatch with you guys, it made me appreciate the show once again even more! It was a short 12 episodes series but with a lot of funny and heartwarming moments. Would I have liked to get more episodes and a season 2? Sure. But am I also satisfied with the show as it is, wrapping it up with a wholesome ending? Absolutely. It was great to see you enjoying it as well!
So much fun to re-watch this show as you all did, and really enjoyed your reactions along the way. It’s one of my favorites and it’s just so much fun to see other people liking it too!
Such a special anime. Wholesome, great action, a tear jerker. As sad as I am there won't be more, I think it has a perfect ending and I couldn't ask for more. I also enjoy the platonic/found family route they go with. because I have seen people say they don't wanna watch because "haha gay", but the fact of the matter is that it's not, they don't go there with Rei and Kazuki and they're just 2 men raising a child and I love that. Even if it was it doesn't take away from anything the show does and as a gay person myself, I preferred them being a platonic couple that raises a kid.
I really loved this reaction and this series!!! I do think the place Rei shoots his father vs his own arm is different, the shot on his father looks more in the shoulder, but I might be wrong. But yeah I really really like that narrative choice of Rei basically disabling himself cause I feel like it’s the most believable way that the agency will stop chasing them. The father clearly wants Rei to continue the job but there’s no point hunting Rei and convincing him if he’s not even *physically able* to shoot at all. And the timeskip really reinforces that idea that yeah, Rei’s wound is permanent, and so are its effects. What I also really like about the timeskip is that it doesn’t leave the viewers in uncertainty relative to “did the agency really stop hunting them?” “are they ok?” “Will they manage to keep Miri despite their irregular (legal) situation?” We *have* all those answers and it’s great. It really contributes on making this a true comfort show 🥰 This show is suuuch a gem and I’ve been really happy watching the reaction and discussion each week 😍
i think the end was they knew no matter what miri would be safe, if they succeed they go off to live their life with miri if they die although sadder she would probably end up in an orphanage but they have no reason to go after miri and Q would probably low key set her up to make her life better from the background
Loved every minute! Thank you for the reaction. Thanks to this, I discovered you two and am already watching several other reactions to different animes. 🩷🩷 Much love from Brazil 🇧🇷
This is was definitely a wonderful show that I wish more people gave a chance to! Oh wow I like that you're picking up skip beat if I heard that right. That one needs a reboot and continuation but sadly it gets what I call the "Shojo treatment". Incomplete and abandoned Shojo anime. 😭 Its manga is one I've read since I was a kid getting close to 2 decades although I keep having time where I don't read for a while and come back to binge and catch up to a year or so of chapters.
i love this show a whole lot. but one thing that it does that i almost never see, is tell a love story without any kind of romantic element. i like those fine, but as an aromantic person, it just made me so happy to see a story where love and family is said to be a choice, something that you fight for and nurture and it doesnt matter what kind of relationship it is as long as the people involved all want it. im so used to there being a hierarchy to love in media and this show means so much to me for not being like this
Still kinda wish they continue another season with highschool miri. Overall this is great anime and thumbs up to your reaction and discussion! Look forward to next one!
I like this channel. Today's reactions very vary sweet ❤ Rai voice after js same Kei Thukishima of Haikyu .Thank you very much. I'm Japanese I can't English sorry.
I really was thinking we will have another season until I saw Miri old Ik we won’t Unless they do high school Miri but I don’t think they will do it 😩😩😩
This was a very fun re-watch journey. Please can you guys consider reacting to Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu. It’s such a criminally underrated unpopular show.
Thank you for reacting to this series!! It's always fun to watch and be reminded of how much I hate Kazuki's facial hair in the time skip (it's truly horrible).
I think they may have in the past, if they haven't though then yeah, that'd be awesome but maybe wait for Tokyo ghoul to get reanimated? Because y'know, the anime wasn't so faithful to the manga...

That's something that I wish more shows did at the end. I feel like Lilo & Stitch really started that trend and it's so underutilized.
I loved that about FMAB.
This show is a real hidden gem - I'm so glad you both enjoyed it!

Genuinely one of my favorite comfort shows, just so dang wholesome

Sequel series where grampa tries to convince Miri to join the mob 😂
I love this series so much!! I'm glad you all enjoyed it as well!!

The animation this episode was so good too. That scene of Rei talking to his father was beautiful
Buddy Daddies was really special, i almost forgot how good the ending is
