Heads Up! In this video I am testing V4 of the M7350 which come with wifi at 2.4Ghz @ 150Mbps and 5Ghz @ 433Mbps, whereas the M7350 V5 currently on sale only comes with a single 2.4Ghz band @ 300Mbps. This is understandably caused me and some others a bit of confusion, especially as TP-Link appear to have removed this feature on the newer version, you can verify this yourself by downloading the spec sheets from TP-Links website. May not be a big deal to you, but if it is important then this is something to look out for! AM
that totally sucks because when travelling in hotels / apartments, there is usually an overload of 2ghz wifi points. loosing the 5ghz option is a deal breaker. now that i have a dual sim phone my tp-link wifi hotspot is redundant. im currently in vietnam and my phone is getting over 70mbs download. none too shabby.
Hi, nice review. Do you know if this is the best pocket 4G router you can get? Currently, I have something like this. It's basically identical but a different brand called Prolink. ua-cam.com/video/8ikm-E8Ec7Y/v-deo.html
Quite a few dislikes for what seems to me to be like a very to-the-point and well-argument-supported review! Regardless of that, we're 3 years later and I've decided to buy this one for myself as well due to the give information! Thank you for this video.
@@bgrs1596 it's been some time ago and I can't really remember the latter. But the sim card was provided by my mobile phone provider who also offered mobile networks for at home. I think it was TMobile at the time.
My downloading using this same device as yours, gives me 60 mbps download and that's outside my home when I'm out in the middle of nowhere. It's an ace product.
I think that SD card slot would be really handy, but only if they'd made it a standard size SD, I just bought one of these to use on the boat while in the Norfolk Broads, and being able to share photos from our camera's SD card to various devices to be able to then easily post one or two photos while away from our home PC's would have been a cool feature.
Definitely hoping to use this when I travel to Japan though, the ease of buying a data SIM at the airport and being fairly sure it's going to work with this device is good to know.
1.) Does this have external antennae support? 2.) Can this do USSD dialing stuff? 3.) How does this compare to the Huawei E5573? (If you have already compared it)
Very good review. Unfortunately, at least in the UK, SIM cards from different ISPs show very weak (or none) 4G signal in this router, although they show strong 4G signal in mobile phones...
Thank you for the informative video, I have only one question, Can you plug it directly to your computer and get the internet through a USB connection, or it has to be a wi-fi connection only
As a native Arabic speaker I was struggling to understand any language specially English (before I learn it) when using devices, and its my first time knowing that someone actually struggling because of Arabic LOL. Anyway great review, cheers.
The power button: If the device is on but in sleep mode, a brief press on the power button will light up the screen. If the device is actually off, this brief press will not get any response from the unit. Not terribly complicated I find . . .
Interesting review. The disadvantage of using an old mobile phone as a wifi access point is that it's a hotspot. When you lose the connection with the hotspot it will stay connected to the internet from your phone and not re-connect to the hotspot. This is what I experienced last year on holiday with our camper.
You cannot select what band you wish to work, this is autoselected 800/900/1800/2100/2600MHz :(. Many of times you are on band with lower speed and cannot change. I like huawei devices with custom firmware - in this way I can use DMZ or just IPv6, select band. In hotels scenario I use a MikroTik who can create few virtual AP, connect each one to hotel wifi and summ all into one :) Each reconnect with differ mac and at hotel/airport I can be sure that I have internet as best as possible.
Does it support entering ssh- accounts or external proxy ? I mean if I have VPN server account can I enter my my account username and password through it?
Great review! Some questions... Does it heat up a lot? Can I use it while connecting it to the charger or do I have to switch it off everytime I want to charge it? And if so is it okay to leave it charged overnight?

I am not looking for something extremely fast, maybe 150mbps~? being stuck with tethering on an old phone sucks, looking to test a mifi device out and then get a better one if all's well. any recommendations for cheap ones, any for a decent one? thank you again
The battery powered devices I have tried have poor wifi range, (I have only tried a few) - typically not an issue for me as I usually travel solo. If you can't live with this and want a stronger signal then a mains powered router would probably do a better job - D-Link make routers with built in SIM slots although I haven't tested them. TP-Link also make them but as I mention in the video I am not a fan of TP-Link routers due to their poor firmware support. GL! AM
What is the difference between v4 and v5 I bought mine in April 2019. And did you say the data usage counter is not accurate? What does the data usage counter track ? The usage per month or day?
The only real differences I can see from the datasheets is that the v5 has a reset button, and v4 support dual band 11ac whereas the v5 is 11n 2.4 Ghz only. Technically this means V4 is capable of faster data transfer but for most people I think it will be irrelevant. They are basically the same. AM
I bought this model and had it set up by a friend. Now I want to turn it on and it just shows the battery icon charging but it doesn't go to initializing mode. Could it be because the battery percentage is not enough? It was totally dead when I tried to use it myself.
I can't get mine to work at all. it shows 0 on the front despite vodaphone unlimited data card. Doesn't show network name either. I've installed the card according to your video and the instructions.
Im using Dlink dwr-932c, Im using it while charging sometime and its shutting down itself maybe because the temperature is too high, does your TPLink M7350 happens like mine?
Amoeba Man Sorry, I forgot to tell that its only shutting down itself while using and charging in a bag, but if I place it on table, using and charging where are no cover to air it is working fine. Have you had such issue yet with the M7350?
QUESTION: Will this TP-Link 4G LTE Pocket Router still TURNS ON if the BATTERY is REMOVED while CONNECTED to the OUTLET or POWERBANK through its MicroUSB plug??...Can someone please check....
From my experience, it does not. You should still be find to leave it connected to a powerbank, even with the battery installed. It's smart enough to not destroy the battery, and it's replaceable in case it does deteriorate over time.
Hi AB, it seems to depend on which version you have, I can understand why this causes confusion. The new version 5 currently on sale appears to have only 2.4 Ghz. The older V4, which I am testing in the video DOES have 5Ghz at 433 Mbps. This is based on the specsheets from TP-Links website, I have no idea whey they changed it. You can verify this yourself by looking at the TP-Link website. So if you have a V4 like mine then you have dual band 2.4 and 5 Ghz. If you havea newer V5 then 2.4 Ghz only, sorry I didn't clarify this in my earlier reply. AM
Hi, no I no longer use mine, instead I prefer to use an old mobile phone as a hotspot as I find it more convenient. Worth keeping in mind that this review is of an older version of the M7350 which is no longer on sale. Good luck! AM
My advice would be to keep it switched off and use local SIM cards when you go abroad, its usually cheaper. Some exceptions (like in Europe now Europeans are protected by the "Roam like at home" regulations) - getting this wrong can result in some very nasty surprises when you get your bill with all the roaming charges. So I would say, if in doubt, switch it off :) AM
In most likeliy scenarios a mobile phone acting as a hotspot will be just as good, obviously it depends on the phone and what wifi and network standards it supports. A phone also has other advantages (its a phone!). These days when I travel I buy a local SIM and use my old samsung s10 as a wifi hotspot - works out better. AM
I keep the SSID the same for both bands and I let my gizmos decide - if its too slow I swear at it sometimes, but this is not necessarily the recommended approach ;) I haven't ever actually checked what uses what tbh but hopefully if range is close enough i will be on 5 Ghz for the extra speeeeed ..... AM
You can set a monthly data allowance and alert, I don't think you can do daily - have a look at teh webui yourself on the TP-Link website, the settings are under "Data Usage Settings" in the WebUI. AM www.tp-link.com/resources/simulator/M7350v4_Emulator/dist/settings.html#Advanced/DataSettings
Ten devices not enough...? The smart phones have their own SIM cards and don't need this. Then there are iPads and laptops... How many devices do you use at once if ten is not enough?
As I explain in my review, its fine if you are on your own, when I take my family away there are 5 of us .... then not so much. Personally I think paying a small amount more for a more capable device makes sense. AM
I typically buy a local sim at airports and use Apps (e.g. WhatsApp) or my IP Phone to make calls. I used to have an international roaming SIM for business but it is too expensive. AM
Yes, but you have to log into the GUI using a browser and navigate to the SMS section, you can have a look on the emulator by logging in (admin-admin) : emulator.tp-link.com/M7350(UN)_simulator/login.html
I don't believe so, the connection speed is reported up to theoretical maximum of 150Mbps (i.e. not LTE Advanced), I think for carrier aggregation you would need to upgrade to a different device like M7650. To be honest given the wifi speed of this device I think the specification and connection speed is fine for a casual user and for the price provided you accept the reliability issues I talk about in my video. If you are a power user or want a more stable device then look elsewhere. AM
hey thanks for the reply i'm confused with this model m7350 because i saw their website there is a advanced for this model www.tp-link.com/uk/products/details/cat-5032_M7350.html ?
You are right it is confusing, the fact that they put "Advanced" in the name is very confusing, but I don't believe it is LTE-Advanced compatible (as I state in the video) - happy to be corrected on this but it is not stated in the specifications whereas it IS on the M7650 for example. AM
You can use it whilst plugged into a charger, but mine doesn't appear to function without the battery in position, it displays a battery error on the screen. AM
Hi Vince, I'd suggest you try a comparison website and filter by the network which has the best reception in the area you want, e.g. in my area its EE. www.broadbandchoices.co.uk/mobile-broadband/pay-as-you-go-mobile-broadband/pay-as-you-go-data-sim
I am not able to change Wi-Fi band from 2.4 GHz to 5 GHz any idea y is not possible and Wi-Fi symbol is getting disconnected in between from time to time
See my sticky, I suggest you check your device version, not all have dual band wifi. The current one on sale V5, for example. The one in the video is a V4. AM
The unit needs a SIM card installed in order to connect to a mobile network, some mobile operators in the UK will allow a second SIM on the same contract (for a fee!) or you will need a second SIM and contract. I usually just look around for a cheap data-only deal. AM
@@AmoebaMan and could this device provide so much speed on Ps4, because my speedtest measuring 300+mbps,and when i conect my Ps4 on hotspot my measuring on Ps4 is maximal 90mbps....
I have not tried this but you can forward traffic to and from ports on your network using Port Triggering under the Advanced menu in the GUI and for specific services using the Virtual Services settings in the same menu. AM
I want to extend the wifi which has a VAP login page how can I extend it I tried using wifi extender but it didn't work because It needs to bypass the login page to access the internet. Which will be a better solution
This a low power mobile device, the range is limited in my experience to a large room. You would get probably better performance from a mains powered 4G router. The problem with wifi range is there are a lot factors to consider like positioning, interference etc. Personally I am not a big fan of wireless wifi extenders / boosters. AM

I bought this model and had it set up by a friend. Now I want to turn it on and it just shows the battery icon charging but it doesn't go to initializing mode. Could it be because the battery percentage is not enough? It was totally dead when I tried to use it myself.
Try pressing and holding the power button until you see the screen icons change.it can take a while. AM
I did have problems with my old 5350 overheating on hot days but have not had any such issue yet with the M7350. AM
Does this unit operate on 5Ghz band? I am in UK.
You mean wifi ? No 2.4 Ghz only. AM
@@AmoebaMan Right on the box it says dual band...
AM
Hi there,
Great review! Now this time which router is the best as per your experience?
Are you still using this device? It might be just the right tradeoff for me between price, capabilities and overall product quality
Hi, no I no longer use mine, instead I prefer to use an old mobile phone as a hotspot as I find it more convenient. Worth keeping in mind that this review is of an older version of the M7350 which is no longer on sale. Good luck! AM
hi thanks for the video.
what is the data roaming ? should i turn on or off ?
Julien
My advice would be to keep it switched off and use local SIM cards when you go abroad, its usually cheaper. Some exceptions (like in Europe now Europeans are protected by the "Roam like at home" regulations) - getting this wrong can result in some very nasty surprises when you get your bill with all the roaming charges. So I would say, if in doubt, switch it off :) AM
PIN (for the SIM card) required. How do I enter it?
put it in your phone or spare phone first once setup then put it the device.
does this boost the wifi signal or will it be exactly the same as an old mobile phone as a hotspot?
In most likeliy scenarios a mobile phone acting as a hotspot will be just as good, obviously it depends on the phone and what wifi and network standards it supports. A phone also has other advantages (its a phone!). These days when I travel I buy a local SIM and use my old samsung s10 as a wifi hotspot - works out better. AM
I would like to use it at home. Is that possible to remove the battery (to save it) and connect to the electricity point.
I use mine connected to the mains most of the time, but it only works with thr battery installed. AM
I've got a tplink m7350 and it works perfectly without battery. Dont know if it depends on version or every device can.
I've got an m7350 and it doesn't work without the battery. It will just boot loop when I try and power it up.
What do you prefer using most of the time? GHz 2.4 or Ghz 5 ?
I keep the SSID the same for both bands and I let my gizmos decide - if its too slow I swear at it sometimes, but this is not necessarily the recommended approach ;) I haven't ever actually checked what uses what tbh but hopefully if range is close enough i will be on 5 Ghz for the extra speeeeed ..... AM
Amoeba Man thank you sso much Sir.
Have a good day ahead
so i can use any sim card any country ?
do you have any other recommendation for a better instrument?
In general these days I just use an old /out of date Android phone as a hub when I travel as I find it more convenient. AM
Can you use it while it's charging?
Can you limit data usage per day or only per month via web ui ?
You can set a monthly data allowance and alert, I don't think you can do daily - have a look at teh webui yourself on the TP-Link website, the settings are under "Data Usage Settings" in the WebUI. AM
www.tp-link.com/resources/simulator/M7350v4_Emulator/dist/settings.html#Advanced/DataSettings
AM
Also Phone go in WiFi cause foreign region --> roaming expensive
Can I use this in the Derbyshire hills
can connect external antenna and can be used in any country
Does it work with smart tvs
i could clearly deduce from the hideous Vodafone messages you couldn't read without even looking at your IP and could "welcome to Egypt" 😅😅
Have you tried using this with a Singapore sim card?
Sorry, no I haven't. I would expect it to work OK. I travelling and used it in multiple countries but have since switched to another device. AM
Hi! Is there Any VPN Setup available ?
what sim card do you use for International data/ calls?
I typically buy a local sim at airports and use Apps (e.g. WhatsApp) or my IP Phone to make calls. I used to have an international roaming SIM for business but it is too expensive. AM
Buy a Data SIM card and load it for internet usage
Can you configure a VPN service on the M7350?
TP-Link say the M7350 does not support VPN function, it only supports PPTP/L2TP/IPSec Pass-through. AM
Can you stil read SMS being sent to your sim using the TP Link?
Yes, but you have to log into the GUI using a browser and navigate to the SMS section, you can have a look on the emulator by logging in (admin-admin) : emulator.tp-link.com/M7350(UN)_simulator/login.html
does it have carrier aggregation? or lte advanced?
AM
does this have a band selector?
sir,is this WiFi dongle has a lower ping if i use my phone's sim on it?
I doubt it will make much difference, if you want low latency then a fixed connection is probably the way go :) AM
From my testing, using an old phone as a hotspot would yield me a ping of around 250ms, this dongle averages around 40ms
Hello i just bought m7350 it does not charge 100%. The battery only charge 70% is it normal? And the battery drained so fast pls reply
That's not normal, mine charges to 100%. Replacement batteries can be bought very cheaply online (non-OEM). AM
It keeps on showing no internet, 😭 I've just buy load a while ago 😭
can you take out the battery and use it with wired charger?
You can use it whilst plugged into a charger, but mine doesn't appear to function without the battery in position, it displays a battery error on the screen. AM
God Bless You
can use in the Philippines
Is this worth it in 2021? | Can i activate or using without connecting to PC (setup)
I think this unit, whilst still functional, is probably not the best value now unless you can find it very cheap. AM
Hi like the video very informative Can you suggest a pay-as-you-go no contract data Sim for the UK so I can try it out please thanks very much bye
AM
Amoeba Man v 5 doesn’t have dual Wi-Fi band my is v5
After they are discontinued, they can no longer be used?
You can keep using, but TP-Link will quickly stop updating firmware, sorry if this wasnt clear. AM
@@AmoebaMan so TPlink stop to support this model? is it releavnt to buy it nowadays?
@@shaykea The device will still work, although v5 has now been released so I am not sure how much longer TP Link will continue to support it. AM
I have 320 mbps download and 25 upload on mobile network, can i share that network trough that router without sim card, or i have put sim card in?
The unit needs a SIM card installed in order to connect to a mobile network, some mobile operators in the UK will allow a second SIM on the same contract (for a fee!) or you will need a second SIM and contract. I usually just look around for a cheap data-only deal. AM
@@AmoebaMan im not on contract, i have a regular sim card without contract. Or it must be a contract sim card?
@@AmoebaMan and could this device provide so much speed on Ps4, because my speedtest measuring 300+mbps,and when i conect my Ps4 on hotspot my measuring on Ps4 is maximal 90mbps....
The website to register the device is not secure...
Hey ,Does it have port forwarding ?
please help me ...
AM
Does it automatically turn on when you put the charger in it?
No, mine only charges, you have to turn it on using the button to make it work. AM
@@AmoebaMan So, the only way to keep it always on is to never let the battery die, right?
@@AmoebaMan Thanks for the response man. That is good to know. Do you know if there's a way to remotely manage the device (without the need to be connected to its wifi), only by the internet?
I just bought mine and eventually run out of battery, so I charge it but it doesn’t turn on. Just showing the battery is charging. What to do? Pls, help. Thanks
@@analiza8497 unfortunately there is nothing to do. This product does not turn on automatically incase it runs out of battery :/
Is it a good product
My router conect to my phone but no internet
How do u top it back up for data?
HI Callum, I buy disposal pay as you go data SIM cards and typically top up using the network operators website. You also have the option to pop the SIM into a phone and use the network operators phone number to top up - although this is a pain! AM
Amoeba Man thank you for the information I'll take this on board and hopefully get one thanks
im curious does uk people speak arabic or something
Some UK people speak arabic, unfortunately not me, I wish I did! I was working in Egypt at the time I made this video so you can see the arabic messages from the network in my device, I only speak a few words of arabic, Salam alaykum to my Egyptian friends! AM
I'm planning on buying it for Argos. Is it a great product? Also how long does the battery last? Many thanks
Hi George, this particular unit is quite old now so unless its cheap I would look at others first. I got about 24 hrs from mine. AM
@@AmoebaMan I see. Thank you for your answer
@@AmoebaMan hi what are the better new models? Also I’m thinking about replacing my WiFi hub with this would it be able to run all day? If not are there any that run all day? Thank you :)
@@myroom6103 Hi MY Room, if you are thinking of using this as a base unti i.e. switched on all the time then I think a mians powered device would be better as it would have better wifi coverage and support more simultaneous devices. search for "4G router" online. My preference would be to would avoid TP-Link these days as their firmware support is worse than their competitors. AM
Does it show you how much data you've used on the screen?!
Yes, it has a counter which goes up as you use data, you can also set limits and alarms in the GUI and you can tell it which day of the month your data allowance is refreshed. It also shows an instantaneous usage rate / speed. AM
got one and CANNOT access internet. I believe the fault is the time date is incorrect, and of course you have to get on the internet to do anything, and it WONT.
Try updating the firmware. My internet stopped working so I reinstalled the firmware and it worked again.
Does it have a WiFi extender
will a micro sim card work on this? i thought i saw an adapter there but i am not sure if that's for a micro sim.
no .. the sim slot is the standard old big size slot
Many Thanks
