Bro had to pay $40 shipping on a $1350 grinder? That's atrocious!
Right dude i was able to get one and i was like wtf, i would rather you charge me 1400 and give me free shipping so I felt like i got a good deal 😂
agreed lol
Better than $240 (Canadian) for shipping a Weber Key or HG2 (which ARE probably a lot heavier though).
Nice first impressions and quick review! Curious to know about pour over performance in the range of V60, Origami but also for flat bed drippers.
Excited to see your full review my dude. It's definitely a very cool looking grinder, and at that price I bet it's getting as close to perfect as you possibly can!
Just one thing though, are you gonna title the video "Niche Killer"? 🤣
Looking forward to the espresso review. Where is this grinder made?
Do you know if the Firmware Update for the Lunar is already out? Great Video by the way!!
Love it
I definitely want this grinder but man I already own a an Ode V2 and a Sette 270. Maybe in the future when I can’t find anything else to spend my money on. 😂
Noise level is definitely something I'm curious about, living in an apartment that matters a lot to me:)
Why would a grinder without a large hopper require a scale. With nothing more than the funnel people will measure prior to grinding and not worry about retention with this grinder knowing what you put in is very close to what you get out.
I gotta ask: why do I need to add scales to a single doser to weigh output? Ain’t what I weigh first and put in, what I get out?
the scale is for GBW function (with hopper), not single dose
So a scale company and a grinder company made a colab product , where after you buy the grinder you also have to buy the latest scale to get the "colab" functionality... Ingenious. Just integrate a damn scale in the base of the grinder and make it detachable so you could use it as a regular scale. You alredy put magnets in it. Use a regular lunar hardware in a new shell that matches the grinder and charge the extra cost for the scale.
Some users may already have a Lunar 2021 or an original Lunar (compatible shortly). Rather than increase the cost of the grinder to account for the additional cost of materials, it makes sense to have it compatible with a previously released product. Also, some customers would like to use the grinder without the grind-by-weight feature, so there's no need to charge them more for a feature that's not crucial to their grinding experience.
Dude got my cast burrs in, and holy crap it is such a pain to change the burrs. Just giving you a heads up when you try to change them. I still haven’t gotten it figured out. The screws are a nightmare to work with.
good to know!
So now when you have two Lunar Scales, you don't have to move it around between grinder and espresso machine 😁
It made me wonder, if it makes sense to buy two scales at front... 🤔
How do you feel about the amount of room it takes up , compared to something like the niche?
its more or less the same but a bit taller
I’ll love to see a comparison with the DF64P, at least size and flavors. I have a Df64E and was looking at the Orbit; I just don’t know if it’s worth it. I also have a Niche pair with a Decent (for context)… Nice video btw!
i'm hoping to get my hands on a P64 to compare since that seems to be the closest competing grinder in price and function
@@itsxris Have you had a chance to compare to the P64 yet? Or any comments on taste clarity/body of shots, and grind uniformity (if you've used a sifter)
That hopper is an eye sore for an otherwise quality looking grinder.
Hopefully they provide an alternative soon
Why couldn’t they make this flat black? Any other colors on the horizon?
Would love to see you test a Ceado. The E5/6 beats this handily on price, has burrs and a 300w motor. It is quicker (1650 rpm) so some static but it is very very consistent. I don’t know why there aren’t more reviews of it out there. To me it is the best bang for buck.
definitely sounds like one to compare!
The e5sd seems like a great grinder, especially in getting a great espresso in the morning but I think one the reasons that the Orbit and many other similar to it have is the option for variable rpm. Additionally, we know that lower rpm results in less fine which having variable rpm opens the the door for rpm profiling…and the 🐇 hole goes deeper.
I just don’t know why we can not zero burrs touch point .
Zerno z1 looks better I think. Wireless grind by weight is pretty cool
Would be a Nice video , if we had heard the grind noise ?
What burrs you gonna put in it?
stock ones are in it now but I want to test SSP at some point
@@itsxris nice, i have the mp in a df64 and they’re amazing, then i got some cast on the way for the orbit. Look forward to seeing some videos on what you go with 👊🏾 gorilla gear just dropped some 63mm for the niche, i got some and am excited to see how those turn out, they’re 20% off til the 18th too
@@Jahloveipraise SSP cast burrs might need like 30lbs of seasoning before they're actually good, it will be like Niche Zero conical type burrs at first. Nice body, not much flavour clarity, at least in my experience. Haven't seasoned mine yet, not sure I want to bother, I like the SSP MP burrs.
Weber EG-1 or this?
EG-1 is substantially more expensive but has larger burrs.
I am curious to see whether stalling will appear in your tests. 200W are on the edge in my point of view... Lagom P64 has a 300W brushless motor which seems to be more reasonable to me for a RPM adjustable 64mm flat burr grinder. Too bad I love the concept but for this money i don't want to compromise...
Two questions; 1- tell me about the burrs, 2- why would anyone ever need a grind by weight function on a single dose grinder, that only works with the latest $200 scale? Lol you could just weigh your dose with a $5 scale and cut out a bunch of fluff.
1) i'll get into it more in full review and 2) they will make a big hopper attachment
@@itsxris my man
It's odd and really cheap to have a plastic hopper. I don't know what to think about this.
Lol oh Acaia has a grinder now? So when’s Fellow’s scale gona come out 🙃
Am I crazy or could all this functionality be achieved with a $300-$600 grinder, a raspberry pi, a programmable scale, and some minor engineering know how? I just don't see how $1600 is justified for this.
I am not following the point of the grind by weight feature. The hopper is definitely for single dose grinding, so you will need to weigh your beans first. If you dump too much beans you can’t take the redundant bit out of it.
they will have a bigger hopper in the future for this grinder available
@@itsxris Good to know. Thanks!
Should have edited out the channeling frames, they were bad.
some channeling doesnt always mean bad
@@itsxris pretty much unavoidable anyway.
Open to sell it :)
no
im not gonna pay 1350 for something that looks like a telescope and a microscope
Have you not seen other premium grinders in this category?
600-1500 rpm is high
Not really for flat burrs grinder
@@acoffeesnob can you explain? The ww key is 30-150 but big conical
even at 600 RPM there's an occasional stalling with light roasts
@@GadgetsGearCoffee the cone shape in conical burrs grinders makes it like a funnel to feed the beans and gradually break them down into smaller pieces. Meanwhile, on the flat burrs, the beans are fed horizontally and being broken down into small particles almost instantly, so it requires a significant amount of torque to crush the beans without stalling. That's also why you can hardly find hand grinders with flat burrs because it's almost impossible to crank the beans through the flat burrs by hand. Some flat burrs grinders on the market offer low rpm like Lagom P100 or Kafatek Monolith Max, but their power units are 1300W and 2000W, respectively.
Typical flat burr grinders are around 1400-1650RPM. The Weber key RPM range is just rediculously low, but conical burrs are generally lower RPM and better at lower RPM too.
The Acaia grinder though is not a super wide RPM range (P64 can go a bit lower to either 200RPM or 300RPM no one seems to be sure... lol) but tops out around 1400RPM instead of 1500. Still not bad. With MP Unimodal burrs in the P64 I prefer it around 600-800 RPM anyway usually for espresso. But for coarser brew methods lower RPM could be beneficial though and P64 would be better there.
waste of time to go and see how many people aren't subscribe, because I still won't
