- Since 1865 the Salvation Army has been helping the unfortunate according to its mantra of "soup, soap and salvation".
The people they support often have lives marked by such challenges as loneliness, abandonment and alcoholism. This film touches briefly on the role they play and the people they help in Nottingham and London.

They still organise the soup run. It still stops the poorest from starving on the streets.
A great organisation
And the Salvation Army still do extremely laudible work today.
Wow a blast from the past, seeing one of my old friends playing the Timbral..... Brought back a lot of memories 🙂
Even with their problems they had a certain dignity and composure.
Wonderfull Sally army, love them
Great memories for me.
Nice to hear John "Ho-ho" Timpson's friendly voice again. Back in the 80s I was an avid listener to Radio 4's Today programme which he presented in a wonderful double act with Brian Redhead.
We haven't learned much in nearly fifty years.
I fear for what things will be like in another 50 years.
