    A new Got A Ukulele review. Baton Rouge is back. And the amazing shirt is back. What a glorious Sunday. As always, thank you, Baz!

    7:02 AM here! Good afternoon Barry. Great review, as usual. Kinda wish I had larger hands. The BR Soprano looks a gem!

    I love the 38m nut and the side dots but no fretboard inlay. It's how I would design my own custom built uke. Thanks for the review.

    I wish I had done some research and bought this one instead of the standard width version, certain chords are just not possible to finger due to large fingers and small frets, it sounds good though. Just avoid tunes with E major ...

    Great review, Baz! It is amazing, but it seems like almost every week you are reviewing a ukulele at incredibly low price points that have so much going for them! I love my Flight TUS-50 soprano that I purchased after your review, because it has such a nice nut width and I have never had a soprano as easy to play as that one. I am glad that companies are starting to revive the traditional nut width of the sopranos!

      Yes it’s been a good run of late. One or two howlers coming soon sadly...

    Thanks for the nut width education, makes sense but sometimes the obvious is hidden. Great review as always. Thank you sir!

    Thank you for educating me on the importance of a wider nut on a soprano. I wound up getting a Lanakai MA P Pineapple with a 37mm nut. It's exactly what I needed. I have short fingers but they are thick for a woman. I really like this one too.

      Exactly! Help spread the word when you see those people say that only bigger ukes work!

    Hi ! I was looking for my first ukulele ever and I found your reviews to be quite honest. I haven't played an ukulele before, to be honest, and I'd like to buy a concert one, which one would you recommend me? (I don't want to spend a fortune on it, under 100$ if its possible)

    • @GotAUkulele
      @GotAUkulele  6 років тому

      Sorry - I never give individual recommendations - just too many. All those reviews on my website with scores of 8 or more out of 10 are recommended by me

    Right, Barry, people who disdain the soprano for hand size should watch John King play.

    This sounds like a really great deal! What I am wondering: What exactly is the STRING spacing, like, the distance between string centers at the nut? I believe this would be a more useful info, or maybe (for a slightly more precise measurement) the distance of the outer strings from center to center. I think I might profit from a more comfortable spacing, but it's hard for me to get the impression just by the nut width.
    For example my daughter's low budget Baton Rouge Soprano (U1S) has 36mm nut width, string distance ca. 9mm at nut (or rather 28mm for the outer strings, so it's slightly more). For my Snail SUC it's pretty much the same string spacing at nut although the nut is substantially narrower at 34.5mm.
    I think it would be great if you could mention nut width AND distance of the outer strings.

      Away at the moment so can’t measure it - but I’ll say this - it’s the widest soprano spacing I’ve ever played

    • @GotAUkulele
      @GotAUkulele  6 років тому +1

      Grabbed the callipers - string spacing middle of G to A is 30.6mm slightly more than a Martin soprano by 0.5mm

      GotAUkulele Thank you very much! That sounds indeed like it does make a difference. How I wish the resellers would always mention this spacing ...

      GLennerd really hope it encourages more beginners to pick up a soprano. I’m completely sick of the endless bleating that they don’t have room. Sure - you needed to spend bigger bucks to get what was always traditional (koaloha, Martin etc)so they did exist, but not really at value end. So it’s not actually new, but certainly unusual at this price

    And a pox on whoever puts thumbs down on Barry's videos!

    • @GotAUkulele
      @GotAUkulele  6 років тому

      Ha ha - happens every time. Spoke to several other UA-camrs and they get it too. Sometimes quicker than it takes to watch the video. It's just keyboard warriors who probably high five themselves after doing it for being so 'subversive'...

    Watching all the oldies! I really appreciate the non-bias reviews even when it hurts a bottom line. Unfortunately, I have to ask; is it uncomfortable to sleep on all those UKEs you have behind you? I imagine the 'OL' lady only lets you out to do reviews? True story?

    Would it be possible to install a pin so that I can use a strap?
    Can't find something about that anywhere maybe you can help me out with that information?

    • @GotAUkulele
      @GotAUkulele  3 роки тому +1

      What you’d need to check is that there is a tail block inside. I don’t have one to check, but if you contact Stones Music in UK ( the BR distributor) they should tell you.

    • @stonesmusic1077
      @stonesmusic1077 3 роки тому +1

      Absolutely, there is a tail block in this model, even a centre line to guide you (where the two sides meet at the join) - just measure the halfway point on this line, double-check, and that's where the hole for your strap button should go :-)

    Hi there whist looking to buy my first ukulele I have come across your channel which has been useful but I wondering if I could get a bit more help. I am looking for a ukulele to do my National 5s (english GCSEs.) I am a 15 year old and my price range is from max £150 and think I will ether go for a concert or the next one up from that. Thanks

      I really struggle and don’t give individual uke recommendations- beyond a certain point it just gets too subjective on looks and sound. The best tip I can give you is to look at my full list of reviews on my site - all those 8 out of 10 or more get my recommendation. There’s lots!

    Is it the whole fretboard that is wider or just the nut?

    Why did they have to include that sun rosette. I really don't care for those laser etched rosettes.

      Virtually all go back. Sometimes they don’t and they go to charity / local school / sold to get something else for review

    Nice uke and nice review! But big Hands are no excuse for not playing soprano. ;) No hands would be an excuse, but i have even seen people playing guitar with their feet.
    I own all 4 ukesizes and i feel comfortable with all of em. I just grab only one size on the same day to not confuse my muscle memory too much with switching around. ^^

    • @GotAUkulele
      @GotAUkulele  6 років тому +1

      Yes I agree but you miss my point. Traditionally sopranos all had wider nuts of 35 - 37mm plus. And for good reason. It’s more comfortable. Recent imports of far eastern sopranos have taken the width down and its putting people off. Had they stuck with wider nuts we wouldn’t be having this conversation and the BR uke would not actually be a talking point. All Martins are and were 36mm. Most beginner sopranos from China are 34.

    • @Metanoia77777
      @Metanoia77777 6 років тому

      Oh, i didn't know that. But why did this industrial miss-step happen?
      I also think that the "bigger is better"-mentality rises the population of the tenor uke to the most popular uke. But as sayed, for me there is no "better size". I dont want to miss one. :)
      Edit: I just took measurement of my concert an tenor (kala) and they too have 34 mm nut with. Only my baritone has 38 mm.

    • @GotAUkulele
      @GotAUkulele  6 років тому

      Just kind of happened when Chinese instruments happened. Many are made in same factories and rebranded so the frequency of 34 nuts went up. The higher end stuff stuck with the traditional wider nuts (generally)

  • @UKISOCIETY
