I’m not convinced that it would look better bookmatched with such bold grain. It looks and sounds beautiful. We’re going to have to have words with whoever keeps signing off these holidays 😂😂😂
Wow, this one really stands out. Wide nut, concert scale, that's my kind of soprano. And I would say fully, but not over priced. Regarding bookmatching, flame/quilted maple, figured mahogany, yes, bookmatch absolutely. But this grain with this figuring and coloring looks great to me, as is. Bookmatching that streaking pattern would seem almost too uniform compared to the natural look it has now. A great review. One of your best and on an amazing uke. Yes, I'm rambling too.
I am in love, perhaps literally, with my bespoke LoPrinzi Concert. I have nothing negative to say about it, and if I laid out all the positives here it would probably look like unseemly gushing. It isn't my most expensive uke, but it's indisputably my best one. I _have_ to mention that the price was well in line with the lower end of some very big-name factory and workshop instruments. I don't know how she does it, and I plan on going back to her for a baritone before long.
I actually have one similar that has the brand "Sailor" which is made as a store brand for Uke Republic. Mine is Black Limba back and sides and Cedar top. It is also a soprano with concert neck. One of my favorites. Plays and sounds beautiful.
I own two the very smallest, bambini (sopranini) cedar top RW B&S and the very largest, a baritone custom 5 string (high and low paired g strings) with cedar top and cherry B&S. They are both glorious
Just by chance I went to our local ukulele shop about 30 miles away. I needed to verify what kind of strings my soprano had, and I wanted to try out a pineapple shape to see if I liked it. Well, it is sort of like trying on shoes - so many choices to play with while in the store - different tone woods - and I found a few I liked. And tried a tenor - I don't have one - and not even thinking about the brand, I fell in love. Lo and behold - a LoPrinzi koa tenor, probably class A though it has MOP circling the sound hole. I am now the proud owner of a very beautiful tenor, at a reasonable price, a beautiful sound with beautiful wood. How lucky I am! Thanks for your reviews, Matt, and have a great time celebrating your birthday.
@@GotAUkulele 😥I heard you say Matt from World of Ukes!! I meant Barry - and the Maz got me. Oh, well, senility is arriving I guess. But I do know your face!
@@GotAUkulele Oh dear! I guess I heard that in another video of yours. Or somebody else's. How about Happy 4th of July from the revolutionaries to the electioners (don't ask, I made the word up) in Jolly Old England . . . ? And politics do sadly enter into the arts ....
Beautiful instrument and beautiful sound! That price is excellent for a luthier instrument. Nice to see a fellow Floridian doing so well! Thank you, Baz!
Soprano body, wide nut, brilliant sound ... I'm sold! I actually like the look and tbh, if it was one piece rather than two, it wouldn't be bookmatched either 🤷🏻♂️ Thanks as ever Baz, enjoyed this a lot. Stay safe mate! 👍🏼
The tone sounds to me like a "wash" of notes in a really good way. Very balanced, sweet. I would especially like to hear this duetting with a different instrument. I have a feeling it could be delightful. Wait ! Here's an idea , Baz. A video or two on how to match different ukes for duets and maybe larger ensembles? (As if you did not have enough to do!)
I like the grain and looks of this one. Binding is nice as well. I love the soprano and this one looks great. 38 mill is ok but I do like the standard being 35mill. I don’t really like the long neck on a soprano but it is ok. Love the pegs and headstock. The price is a little high but yes it is hand made. As per the sound it is rhythmic as you say. I really like the sound. I prefer the strumming but it all really good…. Great instrument…. Thanks Boz…. DOC
Beautiful instrument. I prefer it non-bookmatched, myself. Sorta wabi sabi touch! Very fair pricing all around for a custom luthier in the USA--I may eventually get in touch for a baritone, but for that I may need to save a bit more.
Again nice review. As someone who sold timbre for over twenty years, book matching is not for everything. This timbre has a uniqueness and wildness to it. Let it flow on both sides. That’s what gives it its beauty. Great tee shirt. I think you spelled ‘Tory’ incorrectly. It’s spelled T-R-U~M-P. Oops, I forgot, no politics when discussing ukes.
I think those pegs may well be 6s, not 2s. I have both here and the 2s have a very different metal part, lacking that sort of "jelly mould" double ring. The 6s I have look much closer.
I'm not an expert but as I understand it isn't the size category of a ukulele determined by the scale length, so wouldn't it be more accurate to describe this as a small body concert rather than a long neck soprano? Then again it could all just be semantics but I bought a long neck tenor with a 19 inch scale length and came to realize that I enjoy playing it more if I think of it as a small body baritone. As a novice it can all be a little confusing when the sizes "hybrid" - does this instrument get strung with soprano length strings or concert?
I guess I'm just curious in this video you said and luthier 500 to 1400 was fine yeah you said Bonanza millennium which is I believe 699 you said you thought that was a little high but you said it was handmade I just think the bonanzas are beautifully made and I think he's really reasonable compared to this one that's just my opinion and as they say opinions vary from person to person on whatever subject you can come up with that's what makes everybody different
No...., what I was actually saying about that Bonanza was making a comment about how the price compared to HIS OWN OTHER instruments, not the market in general. I said I could see where the money had gone, but just wanted to understand why the price hike. Different point.
I got pleasantly excited because I thought you were wearing an "Only Fools Vote Trump" and you were being so bold because you would probably lose half your viewers but then I saw clearly... bummer!

I'm in slightly two minds myself on that. My view keeps changing!
Yeah, I love the uneven looks. Beautifully imperfect, maybe? But imperfect isn't the right word, it's great.
Glad to see you reviewing LoPrinzis! I own 3, absolutely love them! Donna is absolutely amazing! Fantastic review!!!
Don't see that many over here - agreed - this is just lovely!
Oh man I love this! I bought the Millar Long neck soprano you reviewed and I adore it.
those Millar ukes are great too!
Beautiful uke, love the t shirt by the way 😊
It is - and thanks David - not long to go with them now!
Normally, bookmatching is expected, but that top is art!
I remain in two minds!
Soooo lovely!!
Thanks for your rigorous work!
Thank you! Cheers!
The tone is beautifully balanced and substantial, must be a pleasure to make music with this...a keeper!
Totally agree - bigger sound than the small body would suggest!

Thank you kindly

Lovely sounding very pretty looking, not usually a big fan of the soprano size and sound but I like this one especially with wide neck.
Yes, think this are great crossover dimensions for the fans of larger ukes.
