Rick Mount was one of the greatest college basketball pure shooters of all-time. His shooting percentage was 49% his senior year with many of them bombs from 25 and sometimes 30 feet. His greatest shot was the winner against Marquette in the Regional final 1969. I remember it as clear as day. He had a poor shooting game, but when it came down to the final shot, he took it and sent them to the finals. Classic case of go your bread and butter to win it.
I attended all of Mount's, home games at Purdue, during his Sophomore and Junior seasons. Mount was a gunner and a ballhog. He missed a lot, in order to get his points. Obviously, a great player. But the ballhog , gunner thing was 100% real. All of us West Lafayette kids talked about this.
He was one of the shooting instructors at the Purdue basketball camp I went to when I was 14. I grew up in Westfield & now I live in Lebanon where he is from.
I remember as a kid in 6th grade in Indiana we (members of the 6th grade basketball team) got to go onto the high school basketball court at halftime and play for about 5 minutes. Every player wanted to wear #10 to be like Rick Mount!
Rick was a legendary College Basketball Player. In the pro, rick never got on the right team that would use his great skills. the same thing happen to another Legendary college Basketball player Howard Porter ( he almost went to Purdue ) from Villanova and an Most Outstanding Player in the 1971 NCAA Tournament . I wish it worked out for them , but it didn't. Needless to say - Their great memories live on in Rick Mount and Howard Porter fan base

Check the stats. His shooting percentage was awesome. You call it ballhog, today they call it the "green light".
No ball hog- you feed your best chance to score . Rick was that BEST CHANCE
I remember him well as an 8 year old basketball fan.

In the opening hype video at Mackey Arena it says “this is the house that Mount built”
