Drool drool drool, and a bit more drool! Congratulations Erik, a well deserved "upgrade" for the BowlMeister. A beautiful piece of kit, but saddening that the QC falls short on an otherwise lovely machine. Looking forward to many projects from you and your new baby. Take care Mike
I've heard that since powermatic / jet and many others moved their production to China QC had gone down the pan. My lathe is nova DVR, also produced in China. Took 3 replacement lathes to get a good one! Enjoy Tom UA-cam / AcolyteTurner
Tom, PM production went to Taiwan with the PM3520b some years ago, perhaps 10 or so?. I have been told that the overall quality of the Taiwan produced machines was better than the US produced 3520a models made on some old equipment that perhaps was past its prime. My 3520b purchased 7 years ago was flawless.
Congratulations for a wonderful machine Erik, and sorry for that little scraches, I hope you will enjoy your lathe a lot and we will be here waiting for new projects. Take care my friend. Miguel
Well, that's you done buying lathes now. I'm delighted for you, that's a fantastic bit of kit but, like you said, the quality control is less than you would expect from Powermatic/ JPW Industries Inc. However, you have done prospective owners a huge favour here and, if I decide to go for the Jet3520B (white Powermatic we get here), I'll be inspecting the castings first. One thing's for sure, you'll not have running problems - I have had the Jet1442 for 8 years and it's a wonderful tool. I changed the motor to get variable speed but the original is perfect and powering a friend's lathe now. I hope you have many years of enjoyable turning. Best Wishes, Brendan.
Erik I agree the price of those things they should have debird every thing. I used a engine jack to unload my lathe worked slick. How do you like the wheels?
Nice lathe. It is really too bad that for that much money a person has to work on it to get it the way it should have come. A couple days ago I was reading some forums about the Robust American Beauty lathe and wonder if their final manufacturing is better?
Hello Erik, Really superb machine and it's disappointing about the rough edges. I've always believed that to succeed in business attention to detail is essential. As part of my learning process in wood turning in recent years I've been surprised that it's almost essential to have to tune up machines such as band and table saws when bought new. Anyway, I look forward to many of your videos in 2015. Best wishes, Alan.
Congratulations on the new lathe, well deserved. I hope you/we get years of enjoyment from it. Sadly there is no control in quality anymore. Thanks for doing this video as a "warning"to all other perspective buyers to know what to look for and not have the same problem. Thanks and take care, David
Good grief ... you would think for what they charge for those things the quality control would be better! I would expect those problems with Harbor Freight or Grizzly, but PowerMatic is supposed to be a premium machine!
Thanks for this honest review. That is a beautiful machine to help expand your horizons my friend. Despite the burrs. Still they should be more mindful of things like that. Congratulations!!
I like the look of the Robust too and The Omega Stuby but I am happy with my Powermatic, I do feel like the bearing is going to have issues so we will see in a few more years.
que lindo torno !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ya estamos esperando los trabajos que saldrán mucha surte y cuídese amigo !!!!!
Works great now!

Mike Waldt Thanks again Mike it is a shame that so many companies are allowing QC to go by the wayside. All in all I am very happy so far.

Thanks Brendan, So far I am very pleased with my purchase.
Erik, I am equally surprised. I got my PM 3520B in 2006 and did not have this issue. But I still think you are going to love that machine.
Billy B.
I already like some of the features.

Lots of luck with the new lathe!!!!
Thanks Scout

I was considering the American Beauty but I found that the PM had a few features that I wanted that the AB did not have.

Very true Alan and thank you for watching. I am working long hrs right now so it is hard to get out to turn.

It is a premium machine but I think the quality control on the machining of the sand castings could have been better.
Thanks for watching.

Thanks Stephen, I am working on new videos. I am also working long hrs at work so not much time for much else.
Congrats on the new lathe Eric. I'll be watching what you create on it.
Al
Thanks Al!
The amount of money you paid for that, you could have gotten a Robust American Beauty. American made and as high quality as it gets.
Thanks an honest opinion is hard to find.
Thanks
After 3 years would you still buy the powermatic?
I like the look of the Robust too and The Omega Stuby but I am happy with my Powermatic, I do feel like the bearing is going to have issues so we will see in a few more years.
I'm jealous.
Turn and have fun!
