    Wow, Jen! I’ve never played with rotating darts. Now I feel more confident to try this. Thanks for your Fit Tip Tuesday videos. I continue to learn so much from you even after sewing for almost 50 years. 😘

      :))) I'm so happy to hear... Also, I checked with my contact at Oliso about the November delivery date...She wanted to know what color your picked out and she'll check on it (she wasn't sure why it was going to take that long.)

    Wow!! Rotate bust dart to waist and don’t close it for prominent tummy. Never have I heard this before now. I can’t wait to try this. Thanks

    Perfect compilation as an entry level pattern design (darts to fullness, dats to design lines). Very good. :) BTW: It's a lot more valuable when you explain the why, than a simple how-to. That's why I really like your videos.

    Thanks so much for this, it’s just what I needed right now. I’m trying to make the fitted bodice and didn’t really want a waist dart, so now I will know what to do .

    Jen thank you so much!! I have watched and read many dart rotation tutorials and this is by far the best!!
    I have a large bust dart so I usually split it. When I split between side bust and armscye, the armscye dart finished out with an inverted point of fabric instead of pointing outward as usual. Is that normal? Thanks!! -Addie

    • @JSternDesigns
      @JSternDesigns  Рік тому +1

      :) That's interesting, I haven't experience an inward pointing tip of a dart... unless I just didn't notice it. If it fits you smoothly after pressing it, I say Yay it's ok! If it's doing something weird at the tip of the dart... try shortening it a little bit... Hope this helps! thanks for watching

    You have me over thinking this now! lol UB 38, FB 45, WAIST 38, HIPS 45. If I rotate half my humgo bust dart to the waist it will make a kind of, swing top style with a normal sized dart, right? If I take in the hips to reduce the fullness of the swing by tapering ( from the bottom of the armhole or from the bottom of the dart) to the hips I will have a plain straight side top, right? Is it that straight forward or am I missing the concept? What do you think of a split bust dart, parallel or both pointing at the apex? By split I mean a half inch apart. f you haven't already covered it I would like a fit tip on handling ginormous bust darts. It seems I'm attempting the impossible to sew a bust dart neatly with the tips of the dart legs that are 7 inches apart on the side seam. I'm referring to wovens of course.

      Rotating part of the bust dart to the hem and not sewing it closed will make a "swing" top at the hem.. The fullness is below the tip of the waist dart, so taking in the side seams might make it fit "funny" because you're pulling in ease at the sides when the actual extra ease is within the garment... If you're working with a soft drapy fabric like rayon challis or soft linen, you can get away with removing more than if you're working with firmer fabrics. If you want to keep the shape of the hem, rotate part of the bust dart to the shoulder seam or you can rotate half to a position just below the bust dart (in the approximate French Dart position) to create two smaller darts coming from the side seam. The fun part is you can experiment to find the best position for the dart to fit your body! Hope this helps, Thanks for fitting along with me

      Thanks for the explanation! I see what you mean about taking it in at the sides. I like the idea of rotating half to the french dart position. @@JSternDesigns

    I have a pattern with a curved French, aka diagonal, dart coming from the side seam. I want to rotate it to somewhere else. Can this be done? The dart is curved so how would I straighten it out to rotate it? Thank you

    • @JSternDesigns
      @JSternDesigns  Рік тому

      :) I did a tutorial for you! You can rotate a curved dart... and straight it out in the new location by drawing a straight line to spread open when you rotate it. Here you go! ua-cam.com/video/XluLhkhwZcE/v-deo.html Thanks for fitting along with me

    I am so sorry for asking this silly question. Especially since I have been sewing since I was 8 and I am 61 now.
    I have had to change from my coats and Clark thread I have used my entire life, because they changed it, and my sewing machines argue with it. Even my old Janome machine. I am wanting to use a all purpose Guttermann, but have no idea what Mara to order. Can you help me figure that out. I do want polyester thread because cotton snaps after your garment has been laundered several times.
    I also have a question about top stitch Mara. Which one is that and what kind of needle do you need so your machine sews it?
    Thanks!

      I love Gutterman Mara 100... Here's a link to it on Wawak www.wawak.com/thread/thread-by-brand/gutermann/gutermann-mara-100-poly-wrapped-poly-core-thread-tex-30/#sku=gtda000 For Topstitching Thread, For Topstitching I do use Mara 30 sometimes: www.wawak.com/thread/thread-by-use/button-button-holes/gutermann-mara-30-poly-wrapped-poly-core-thread-tex-100/#sku=gtdh000 But I also use YLI Jean Stitch for Heavy Topstitching detail www.uncommonthread.com/Jeans-Stitch-s/196.htm And, my machines love Coats and Clark Topstitching thread because it's not as thick as YLI www.joann.com/coats-clark-jeans-thread-60-yards/2430692.html?gclid=CjwKCAjwkNOpBhBEEiwAb3MvvR0BISO9p1aK_oTKP0HWaGKfzQyeQ0GpdxmNW4xiWxL2x5dhGBbQhBoC5uoQAvD_BwE Hope this helps!
