OK, so I roasted it so hard that I felt bad and bought it off David! I might do an 'Ugly Watch Collection Giveaway' or something at some point. This is '70s. This is awful. They should have left it well alone, preferably buried underground. Cheers, Jody
It's ugly as hell, but still, I kinda like it. More interesting than a lot of new releases anyway
Me too. I love weirdo watches like the bottle cap seiko 5’s and the like.
Yeap I actually kinda like it
I like it too. But why such low water resistance?
I agree ugly but still appealing . For that price though, no thank you!
The problem is the price.... The blue one is appealing to me.
Well it was a tough sell but you've talked me into one . . .
Hahahaha! Nooooo!
@@JustOneMoreWatch jomwa just sell your watch to me it's at beauty
The perfect travel watch: thieves will feel sorry for you and leave you alone!
LOL
Bwahaahaaahaaaa! 🤣🤣
LOL... all coments here made me smile, but this one is probably the funniest xD
The specs are crap but I don't think it looks that bad aesthetically. I've seen microbrand watches on this channel that look worse and have been positively received
@@JimmyBlandfood I wouldn't say that.
@@JimmyBlandfood found the owner of the reviewed watch...
@@JimmyBlandfood which one of your watches did he roast Haha
I agree that this is ugly, but Jody mate you own like 5 Vostoks :D
Ha! I knew my collection would be fair game after this! It pretty much always is anyway...... ;)
@@JustOneMoreWatch hahha itis a 70’s inspired watch, if you think of 70’s fashion this watch makes a lot of sense
Woe! Now don’t start knocking Vostoks. Their quirky design is part of their charm.
I like it, but it is to expensive for what it is.
@@carlitoxb110 Throw on a tight print shirt and some pinstripe flares and it all goes together nicely. I quite like it, but not for the price.
I love the design. I'd rather wear that than the cookie cutter diver designs everyone keeps making. I actually have a vintage Orient King Diver that still runs and keeps great time. Similar dial aesthetics but different case design.
Pretty much agree with everything Jody says about it. Except I bloody love it!
Hahahaah! Boab!
It's ugly, but it kinda matches the 70s linoleum in my dad's kitchen. Too bad his birthday just passed! 🤪
Me sitting alone on the can watching this:
We agree.
I'm sitting in the smallest room in my house watching this myself 😅
I would hope you're alone
I wish I could like this 10 times. Underrated comment
Invicta might give a appreciative nod to this Orient.
🤣
lol I thought it gave off some Invicta vibes, too. Maybe the Invicta relaunch used it as an inspiration... and then ran with it. Very, very far.
I actually really like this watch, the poor specs are a massive turn off as well as the price, but I think it's a very nice looking watch!
If only it didn’t have those golden indexes I’d like it.
Horses for courses! We all like different things, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Not my cup of tea though
I understand you.
I find norse trolls cute.
Good to know. I didn’t think people would like it
Are you even seriously.. I know your kidding😐
It looks really cool, the 70s was crazy. A good review as always, but I strongly disagree with your opinion this time.
Agree with you, looks great in my humble opinion!
Yep.I quite like it to.
I have the original one and I love it. I think it is good looking watch.
I’ve been keeping an eye out for one at a decent price. It’s different and ugly but that’s why I like it... but not at the rrp, maybe if I can find one in a 50% sale!
Wait a few more weeks. All the ones that were bought as Christmas presents will be popping up on Ebay soon at bargain prices.
Or you can just buy this one?
You’d rather ask someone else the time than Look at your own Watch!!
If you bought this watch, time is the least of your concerns
😂😂
It looks like the 70's. I kind of like that they were faithful to it and didn't attempt to fix it at all, ballsy
That Orient is a perfect watch. Perfect if you have an open shirt, a faux-gold chain, and flared jeans.
A college town bar bouncer
Hey! Nobody can see my gold chain, the chest hairs too thick.
@@MyMarsham gotta get a much larger chain!!
@Mase Mason please tell me who is Del Boy?
@Mase Mason Minder?
Call me crazy but this is one of my favorite watches in my collection 😅 it gets a lot of hate, but what it lacks in specs it makes up for in charm!
Also from what I've read Orient has a bit of a cult following in the far east and poppular demand from that market is supposedly what inspired this reissue.
I'd love a megenta :-)
Ya it's a lovely unique think outside the box watch
Good on you, it takes guts to stick up for a watch you love after the broadside it got in this video. For me, the blue dial looks the best of the options. You don't see many unsymmetrical cases like with this model.
I like the watch. Bracelet is for the birds tho, wonder what it would look like on a NATO.
If this was priced like a Vostok, I'd be all over it.
Only movement on this cost more than any vostok dude. Hacking and hand winding same movement is in Kamasu and Mako 2/Ray 2. F6922.
To me this is a great looking retro 70s timepiece.
I'm going out on a limb here, but I like it. As fan of the 60's series UFO, I think this has a look of that time about it. Clearly the visual appearance of a watch is highly personal thing? It tells the time accurately, so for me, that's the bottom line. That's why I like my Tevise T801A. It functions as watch, looks good and costs nothing. I have to say on this one...I'm on the other side!!
Ayshea Brough was my first TV crush.
Yeesh. It's all yours, Friend.
I like it as well. It's different. And that's nice
If it had Seiko on the dial all we would hear is deep breathing followed by climax lol
Did Orient give this one to Seiko to design the reissue?
Nope, they aped the original crappy design, lol
When is the last time Seiko released something this ugly?
I'm pretty sure it was Timex
I really like the design, wish it was cheaper thought

It's weird watch, like "two face" character in Batman movie.
You named it buddy the Orient "two-face" 😂
Orient must have hired a laid off Invicta designer.
Sorry, but I absolutely love the styling of this watch. Couldn’t disagree more.
I agree. The 70's mass market watches weren't about design/engineering perfection. The SK copies the older model to the T. Isn't that what we would expect from a true reissue? I love the styling.
9 min video uploaded 2 minutes ago & already has several dislikes. Good to see people are watching the hole video before forming an opinion...
Ach well Steve, UA-cam considers likes and dislikes as 'interaction' so I don't mind at all!
Have you considered the possibility that they already know what the watch is all about and they disagree with the very intense title of the video?
I've been saying the same for some time. Silliness.
TBH it sounds like you're that guy who's a little upset about the title of this video. Every watch has its place & I personally wouldn't call it garbage, but it sure is an unusual piece to re-re.
@@stevemoon2136 Spare me the amateur psychology hour dude. I don't like the watch, but it seems like you are trying to find things to nug about. All i am saying is that there may be a reason why someone acts out of what you reckon normal. Maybe think a little more before judging people?
Dont be so harsh Jody, cool factor of that piece is off the charts!
Agreed! I'd rock it...
I only see 9 circular gold markers. One too many single malts before the review perhaps Jody? 😁
I got cross eyed just looking at the thing!

This Frankenwatch makes me think of the Simpsons episode where Homer designs a car.
Homer: "I put a ping pong ball on my antenna so I can find my car easily in a parking lot. EVERY car should come that way." For some reason that never ceases to amuse me.
That car was amazing
How much does this MONSTROSITY cost?
@@erod818 @ about 5:30 Jodie said $225. I still don't like this Orient watch, but having said that internal rotating bezel with sapphire and both crowns screw down are pretty pricey, best I could do was somewhere just below $500 for a preproduction Alkin - which I really like.
I think it’s absolutely gorgeous, especially with the magenta dial. I’d buy one in a heartbeat if it had sapphire and 100m WR. It’s incredibly distinctive, and just looks snazzy as hell. Shame I can’t afford one!
Crazy enough I would keep this watch and in a few years (10 maybe 20 or 30) this watch will be high in price. It has some kind of unique look that you can‘t find that easily. Normally I don‘t like crazy watches like these 50mm Diesel shit or some too heavily colored ones but I kinda like that Orient.

I can’t believe this was even made in the first place!!
It’s charming, it’s got character. Wouldn’t mind wearing one.
0:20 i think that when a youtuber says "we love a retro reissue" they mean "me and all of you viewers, subscribers and fans". It's like in Romper Room when they say the names of all the kids they can see watching at home
I think they do it to make themselves feel important!
Used as a force multiplier for an opinion or argument.
@@dparis2172 aka TRUMPING...
I got a decent deal on the red dial version a while back and actually really like it. I think it's pretty comfortable and I dig the funky retro look. Plus it's different than anything else in my collection.
That's like a crime spree in a multi-storey carpark. Wrong on so many levels.
Just goes to show how subjective watches are. It reminds me of that retro green seiko you reviewed. I ended up buying that one, and this one appeals to me as well.
Kinda proves how f*cked-up ppl are these days...
You know when you copy paste something into Word and it mangles all the formatting and font, and you end up with a complete mess? That's precisely what happened here.
I agree that this is not the best Orient project, but certainly I would buy it instead all those garbage Timex watches that you have mentioned.
I doubt there was a project behind this watch. I think they just made it.
That’s a rare headline! It does appear to be accurate though 😂
Lekker man lekker!

It’s definitely a matter of taste. I’ve had one for a year and I still love it. Though I agree it is a little over priced considering the specs. Also it’s quite odd it’s called a “dive watch” when it only has 50 meters of water resistance. Even with that I still love it. Mines the red face though. I find the gold face one very ugly.
Came across one with 160$ deal. I must say I like it. Maybe it's not beautiful by nowadays "standards" but this is what makes it attractive, it's unusual retro desing is such a unique beauty for so many !
I'm just here to say: after the King Turtle video: At least everything is aligned here!
I actually had an Alegro, 100,000 ugly and style free miles without major issue!
My wife got me the magenta one for our anniversary. It is my least favorite watch and I dare not tell her.
Clearly not a watch enthusiast then! :)
I agree with Jody. That is "The Quasimodo of Watches"!
Where’s the link to buy one?
I absolutely love this watch. The square tough look is awesome and with the blue dial it’s a sweet piece.
I own the blue version and I like it a lot! Of course, I also had a TR7 Coupe haha. My biggest gripe is the strap, it is terrible. But I love the 70s case shape and day/date.
To paraphrase the Swedish Chef...”Vert der ferk?”
Orient has kept a few watches like this in their roster and I am surprised that it is called a reissue because I have seen these being sold nonstop over the last 40 years, but perhaps orient thought that they would cash in by using this term to sell these clunkers.. Said watches were kept, because they sold well in the middle eastern, and Indian markets. I have travelled a bit, and I have been to places where it is stylish to have large rattling watches dangling off of the wrist. This watch is wonderfully tacky, and I think that you missed the point Jody.
I don't think it's bad exactly, looks like it's not for everyone but it certainly is for those people who want something different, but great video as always Jody!
Nothing like letting an opinion getting in the way of a fair review. People like TR7s and even Allegros. 70s retro is cool, and so is this watch. Nice to see a faithful reproduction.
I love the TR7. 🙂
Orient diehards like me literally are drooling over this watch!!
Oh boy, I seriously love parts of this Frankenwatch, including the assymetry. I skipped out on it precisely because of the wonkiness of the bracelet sizing, as you've pointed out. And I apparently predicted your counsel because I already acquired the Orient King Diver (the champagne dial) and the Timex Marlin. But seriously, in spite of my love of what this watch wanted to do, it's a true monstrosity on your wrist.
Designed for the 70s, yet reminds me Knight Rider and other 80s retro futuristic designs. I’d rather still get a bulky Seiko Ripley.
"Gigaaahh-rrro"
I’ve seen these on a couple of watch review channels now and unbelievably I must admit that I’m starting to kinda enjoy them! Definitely in the “so bad that it’s good” category.
There’s something about this total mis-matched and mashed-up design that appeals to me on some level 💁♂️
But I’d still NEVER buy one.
I like it tooo. Jody what do you think of Deep Blue watches?
I was prepared for a cute-ugly 70s watch. I thoughts to me self, "how bad can it be?" Then Jody pops it up on screen and I'm like "Yikes! Never mind." This is the dogs breakfast of bad 70s design.
We enjoyed this review enormously!
I really like this 70’s inspired watches, I like the recraft line of seiko and of course this orient, as they say beauty is on the eyes of the beholder, I want that ugly watch
Got one for myself and honestly I love it. Gets way more wrist time than my swiss pieces.
Your distaste for this watch was extremely enjoyable to behold. 😂😂
How much do I love this channel? Well, this is a watch that wouldn't fit my wrist and is so...unique in style and design that I wouldn't take a free one.....and I still stayed to the end. Thanks for taking one for the team, Jody!
Thanks mate! I had fun.
I like it. Lockdown must be getting to me!!!
Ha! Time to get out more mate!
It’s a faithful reissue that somehow got worse. It is like “design salad.” Thanks for highlighting this curiosity. I have to disagree with you strongly - the gold is THE WORST
Jodi, I must say that even when you are being negative you keep it delightful! You should have a talk with your cousin across the pond Mr. Goodman... He needs a hug.
I have original one from 80th with red dial. My father gave it to me as my first watch. Now I'm 47 and still have it in my collection. And for me it's just perfect. It was stuning in 80th, now it looks at least strange, but I personally love it. Dunno about this reissue, but original was just perfect for time and for fashion of that days.
This watch clearly wasn't made to be YOUR opinion of good, like the rest of the watches you like so much. The fact that it's different is a draw, not a problem.
For the right person, that is a very cool watch. I would try it.
Also, I love the TR7.
I also love the TR7. But this watch ?
Right? What was that all about?
Hey Jody are you going to have a look at the San Martin Black Bay copage that is coming out soon?
"Unfortunately you are going to have to look at it if you want to use it as a watch, and you want to know what time it is!" Love your little quips Jody. I could imagine Ed Straker in UFO wearing it. But weirdly, the more I look at it, the more I like it, and I've got a Kamasu! Do I need therapy? It's certainly different. I agree about seeking out an original though if there's any still about if it does float your boat. Best wishes from the U.K.
You got it all wrong. This watch is absolutely brilliant. Although, ostensibly a dive watch, in actuality, this watch was designed to ward off muggers. One glance at the vomit-inspired dial would immediately signal that the wearer had no clue, no taste, no class and thus nothing worth stealing. It's the watch that saved lives.
This watch is an absolute trainwreck for sure! I'll never know why they reissued this model 🤣
wow that's hideous, its almost like they said "let's create a watch that looks like a pack of cigarettes from the 70's" lmao
I know you don’t do it often but the monthly watch roast would be very entertaining
1...love it
Ha! You are welcome to it mate!
I have to disagree. It doesn't look like an Indian frankenwatch, it looks like an Indian frankenwatch the 6-year-old nephew of one of those watchmakers was allowed to design for his birthday.
I mean a real gold fume dial with that case shape could have looked good - if they changed everything else.
I actually like how this stands-out with the asymmetrical case and flashy dial. I think the blue and gold go well together. If only they had merged the gold indices with the lume pips inside them. And removed the black arches behind them, the dial would be so much cleaner. Less cluttered. For the price I think I'll have to pass, but I am a bit saddened I have to, because I find this a charming fella
agree. lookalike seiko prospex dial, but more cheaper
This watch is like revisiting an old girl friend you haven't seen for over 30 years.
...I like it. Especially the magenta. I think I'm going to buy this.
You've got to have one, if you living in a split level house, drive an Isuzu and wear polyester.
God. The worst part of it for my OCD is that the third circle curved black fields on which the ten gold dots sit isn't even concentric so there are four odd sharp wedges through which the hideous gold strip shows.
Ugh.
It’s a super authentic to vintage divers by having severely reduced water resistance.
It’s like you bought a real old diver with rotten gaskets.
I saw an original of these at a flea market in Solana Beach California, marked at $75. It was beat up, dirty and I left it there after looking at it mostly because it was almost comically ugly but had to be fondled because it had the internal bezel and the Orient name on it. Later, I was surprised to see it on Orient's website, because this was not a nice watch in the hand. Now learning that it's in fact a complete repop, I respect the authenticity but join in wondering why the heck they picked this one.
By the way, I support and appreciate that you can have a video that wasn't all positivity and gush.
Alright, I REALLY like the dial layout and the doubled chapter ring. Just give it a textured black dial, get rid of all the gold and the tacky date window and the thing is pretty good!
Oh and I love how you grilled the different polish + brushed finishes too :P
I've bid on old Orient Sea King divers on ebay before. I can't see myself wearing one a lot, but I find them really interesting, somehow.
This one somehow manages to be a little bit worse than the usual fare. I think it's the stripe on the dial and the lack of an external bezel that really puts me off.
that orient hot mess is a remarkably similar design language to the more "busy" designs of 70s Ricohs
I wonder if the low water resistance is due to lack of screw down crown and/or crown for rotating bezel?
I still wouldn't like the watch, but for me a screw down crown on the internal rotating bezel is a MUST; 2 reasons why; 1) it drives me nuts to see the internal bezel moved unintentionally, when not in use I want it at the 12 o'clock, if no screw down then at 4 in the afternoon you find it at the random marker and my search for order in my tiny part of the universe is ruined. 2) When I set it, I want it to remained set. Seriously. Not kidding. If I use that bezel for whatever reason I REALLY REALLY want to depend on it. In my experience lack of a screw down on the internal bezel means you get the wheel of fortune thing happening next time you look at it.
I think buying a vintage one is a really bad argument. If I buy a vintage one, it will probably need servicing, it's hard to get one which is not scratched to death. No matter how much people hate this reissue, I just got a blue one. The 70's were definetly a weird time, and I love it!
Hi Jody, thanks for this review, even if it's for bad news, but being honest is a quality I value as much as being nice to watch brands... and if it's a miss, it's a miss!
Having the crown unaligned is also something that other brands do, Omega for instance, with the Speedmaster reduced; search pictures for this search phrase: omega speedmaster reduced crowns
You'll see the middle crown being 1mm lower than the left & right pushers... for technical reasons in their case.
It's not unlike my local Chinese restaurant's Monday special: mixed greens with assortment of meats, in other words, leftover kitchen scraps from the weekend. In this case, this would have been made from left over parts from at least 5 different watches.
To be true, the Orient branding reminds me of the cigarettes my mother used to smoke in the 60s. Simon Artz Orient Cigarettes.
Isn't this a watch for the blind, I feel that the glass should have a hinge on so that the owner can feel the metal studs to tell the time with.
looks unique, is it still for sale?
Jody, thank you for all the laughs! It's a rarity to hear you "wipe out" a watch but you were through in your assessment that is for sure. One you showed us the watch, to me, it was so ugly I would not have considered buying one on that basis alone, but you went on to give me another dozen reasons to never consider getting one. I only buy watches I enjoy and will wear. I've been in the hobby now just shy of three years (three years in March). You and TGV have gotten me to fall in love with Casio and a number of other brands such as Orient .... just NOT THIS ORIENT! Thank you again for an enjoyable video,
I would have appreciated some warning beforehand that seeing this review could damage my vision. Now, if I could just get an appointment with my eye doctor...
This is so gaudy I kinda love it. If I didn't already have a gold plated Invicta I'd add this to my "wear with a Hawaiian shirt that's half unbuttoned" rotation
Orient: Should we make a dress watch, a sports watch or an everyday watch?
Designers: Yes
It’s your video, but I think many if your gripes can be boiled down to: “I just don’t like it,” rather than, “It is undeniably ugly.”
This watch captures the roccoco 70s aesthetic that would also have included Tiger’s Eye pinkie rings, smokey mirrors, and velvet paintings of Black and/or Asian ladies as if they were Ohio Players album models, but less honey and/or whipped cream.
That said, it’s no Seiko King Seiko Vanac with faceted chrystal.
I’ll agree with you on the price and the bracelet.
