Hey it’s nice to see that you kept the channels name the same, I ran into you and your wife at Freeport on the sac river during the striper run, I’m mainly a trout fishermen going for monster, and I got amazing spots for them, maybe we can hook up this fall to do some trout fishing
Man we've been waiting forever to hear from you! Ironically we were just talking about all of you yesterday. Later we talked about that location, of which we never returned to. I don't mind Trout fishing, when active heh. It's Lea favorite fishing. While mine is Striper & Bluegill/Red Ear. We can work on something. Got a few trips "hanging in the balance". What days/times you normally have? Btw... how's the fishing been lately? Good to hear from you! Ken & Lea
Hey I was in the high sierras by Tahoe fishing caught a 9 pounder rainbow and all the sudden I remembered when you and your wife caught that monster rainbow at oak grove pond and when we talked at Freeport, I was like I need to get ahold of you guys and hopefully set up a fishing trip. I have Friday, Saturday, and Sundays off from work. So any one of those day I’m good to go!
@@BlueSky-de1lv Well heck boss, the 9 pounder beat my 7.1 Oak Grove pounder! The proud aspect I GUESS is that it was from TINY Oak Grove Park! Go figure... Oddly also we caught it a few days before they Restocked! Nine pounds, that's a HEAVY hitter! Maybe just me but feels like Trout 6 Pounds and up, are rare for people to catch. I maybe incorrect. Those days should work. While I can choose any day (that I'm not too busy on) to fish. While Lea has to be more select. Edge of working for yourself heh. Let me see if we can't figure a direct way to chat. We'll set something up here if you like. Ken & Lea
Yeah that would be great, for the trophy size trout you need to know the location to get them up in size, I got pics with me holding 16 pound lightning trout, And many more.
@@BlueSky-de1lv For lakes we heard it was Lake Amador. We only fished it 3 times, but only caught one NICE Lightning Trout. 4.5 pounds. 16 pound is insane! Oddly to date our largest Trout still came out of little ol Oak Grove Park. Still stunned by that one. Odder still we caught it days before the planned stocking. Only done once a year. Ok recon we can work on a Friday, if cool. Weather permitting. I'll see what I can do for some weekends. Also come Fall I planned to put a few good Striper trips in. This time wanted to be more certain we're in Striper run. But yeah sounds like the starting of a plan. Ken
You gotta be further out on the pier and fishing the edge of the deep channel to not spend the whole day catching shakers. Ditch the dead cut bait, use squid or live bait or run a lure and do cast/retrieves. Show up before day break to get a good spot or you will continue to have confrontations with locals when lines get crossed. Buddy of mines been crushing it on that pier for weeks.
When we first got to the pier most of the space was taken. Left side of pier was open mostly on the mid section. Didn't know there was a deeper channel running near there. Thanks for the note on the Squid, though frozen we did cast it out. It did get bites. I'm not much into using Live Bait. Rarely I will. Not that it doesn't work. Other reasons which I'm sure you can gather. Hah yeah hate the line thing, but think he was a tad unreasonable. He was drifting over people a good 40'-60' away. We actually didn't drift too badly. I'm with you on the shakers. One thing for sure, take them over a skunk any day of the week! Never was keen on the wait heh. Btw.... a guy was just mentioning about Flounders there. May target them soon. Thought those would be in the Bays. We hope you enjoy the Vids boss, thanks again for the info!
Oh also funny thing, on the drive there my plan was we'd run 3 bait poles and I brought a sweet box of Lures just for that. Man moments poles hit water it was bites almost the entire time. Should have dropped a pole and casted those lures out more. Got MAYBE 30 casts in with them.
@hershisadventuresincalifor9725 u can hook up with something like 30 species from that pier depending how and when you fish. Some say we got whipers out there (striper/white bass) hybrid.
@@RippieFarmer Fairly sure pulled up some purebreds and hybrids. Have out of Rio Vista. Figured those waters had quite the variety! Kind of stuck on the Flounders now. Heh. Oddly enough been having a desire to put a PURE Bluegill/Red Ear day in. STILL trying to catch a Pumpkin Seed. We have caught the Warmouth & Green Sunfish though. You know if Flounder fishing is actually GOOD there? Thanks again!
Hey David! Actually it was fun, a bit windy I must say. The poles so active was little time to even drink some water. I hear you about owning the water. Though... maybe I did see a buoy with his name on it floating nearby. He may have also been ready to pull out a legal claim document. But yeah did feel we were good enough distance apart. Sides where I casted, would have meant he was floating down in front of us. After we casted and most the day we barely drifted and was all to our right side. Well I prefer to fish with someone, but rather not be in large groups. Except for maybe a big get together now and then. Always nice reading your comments... Ken & Lea
Like many I'm still learning fishing. When I know it well, I'll learn more and so on. From what I hear Jordan (if I may) that the Stripers make a "Run" from the Ocean, through the Bays and into the Delta. I do believe they do this during Spring & Fall. Also to my understanding that when the "Striper Run" happens. The chances of catching more and Larger Stripers is increased. I may not be 100% on that, still learning myself. Alas I grew up a Hunter before I ever Fished. Plus omg roughly 25+ other hobbies.
@@bmac925- So they did have Wind Breaks and the Benches he spoke of once? Dang... if so wonder if they took them out due to expenses? Still can't see no good reason to remove something so useful. Welp I didn't miss'em never knew they were there! Heh
Right on for that note... we were going to stop for some Ghost Shrimp. But were already late getting there. Nice note on the Flounder there. Going to mention that to Lea. She's been wanting to try for Halibut or Flounder. Still Carolina rig I'd assume? Think we can pull 10lb test off on them with some finessing? Actually brought some nice Lures just for that, but those poles kept us too busy. All around of us others. Catching same sizes. One guy kept saying (casting same bait/set up as us) wait till incoming. We had already been there since the first tide change. Said he had caught a few nice keepers in last week or two. I'll work on getting some larger lures casted out. Also had some success with Pile Worms, just harder to find that bait for us.
@@hershisadventuresincalifor9725 ghost shrimp are really for sturgeon, grass are good for bottom feeders including sturgeon, and mudsuckers are good for stripers, you can catch the mudsuckers out of the rocks along the edge at the beginning of the piers using a trout or panfish rig off of grass shrimp
@@spooner454 I figured Stripers would go after them as well. We need to find more bait shops for such baits. Surely enough of them around. One we mostly visit is loads of assorted frozen baits, and good selection of worms. Except Pile worms heh. Noted on the Mudsuckers... off that very pier eh?
If I may, that was early in the day. I have doubts many knew what was going to happen. Also we knew it's a bit early for the fall run. Thought we'd see how it was. Besides I'd take a action packed Shaker Day over no bites right?
If I may add the fight never was about the fish. It was of course trying to avoid getting tangled. Sometimes "at any cost". Be fine I recon if rig sets up were 10 seconds to set up. It's still pole down time. I see his point, I just didn't share it. The man drifted in front of our poles. Recon that's the down side of populated public areas. It is a pier so. All good no fists flew this time. We just didn't share sentiment. Outside of that hope you enjoy the vids... Ken
You mean the guy saying I casted over him? If so in that case, yeah I've always got LOADS of respect and consideration for people. Even fishermen heh. It's a pier though, and tide flow side was fairly packed. We took one of the larger openings. Even asked the people next to us if they didn't mind. My cast that time maybe 8' to my left. He was a good 40'-50' away. Recon means he's drifting towards me. I had to say something in return... I always do. If I was wrong I would have admitted it. It was cool, wasn't super tense like I'm used to. Though, get this... he was giving me a lowly evil eye from time to time. Hope the vids been cool outside of that heh... Ken & Lea
Right on thanks for that note! To target what at night? Stripers? Also... don't think I'd do a night there. We fish Mornings-Afternoon. Due to other things we need to take care of. Although I really do want to try a FEW night fishing trips sometime. Thanks for the note! Ken & Lea
Actually glad you mentioned that. I'll keep that in mind. Helpful info. I actually felt the wind was semi forgiving that time. Think was 6-10mph. I'm hoping in 2-4 weeks we'll start locking onto larger ones. Wanted to toss more Lures but the bites were nearly non stop. As was the rebaiting. Sighs... Thanks for chilling boss! Ken & Lea
Actually you got a good point to be sure! I was cool with him mentioning it np. But he wasn't cool or social about it at all. Nearly a bit rude. So there went my consideration. We actually were a tad more distance from them then most others were from each other. Was semi packed (course a side of the Pier at a time). One thing though, shakers or not was MAD rapid bites. So wish the water was see through at the time! Thanks for chilling.... Ken & Lea
