I've often wondered...and follow me here...what if Goldblum had reprised his mugger character from the first Death Wish in one of the later films as a penitent, wholly reformed man who has dedicated his life to getting at-risk youths out of gangs and away from crime? How would a meeting between Goldblum and Bronson's characters have gone down? The dialogue between the two veteran actors would have given an emotional depth to the scene that isn't often witnessed in an action flick. Just thinking out loud here...
Hmmmmm. Uh.....no I don't care for that idea. I've had an idea for a Death Wish fanfiction story set after Death Wish 4 where Paul Kersey gets a call from New York authorities that his wife's killers have finally been found and are being held! So Paul Kersey returns to New York and-after the killers are released on a legal technicality in court-Kersey hunts down the men all over New York and Kersey ends up entangled with New York P.D and the story concludes with Kersey being put on witness protection-hence getting to Death Wish 5. Opinions???
Me too. I was actually a teen watching it on cable the movie came out many years b4 I was born so I had seen jeff as a nice guy mostly in movies so to see that scene by accident it was very disturbing .
I remember as a kid collecting DVDS from garage sales and one of the DVDS I had purchased (I wish I could remember more about it) but it had a bunch of random film trailers and one of them was for Death Wish and it showed a portion of that scene. It was so disturbing and gave me nightmares for at least a week. Was way too much for a kid under 10.
That scene is brutal even by today’s standards. It’s a very, very hard scene to watch. If you only saw the trailer, consider yourself fortunate. It’s graphic and deeply unsettling. I saw portions of Night of the Living Dead when I was 14. I recall being very affected, kind of how you were with Death Wish. I feel I was too young for that then.
This guy is awesome! Felt almost like the interviewer was expecting Jeff to apologize or say he regretted his role in Death Wish... instead, he's like "Yeah, it was great!" LOL
They actually hardly even touch upon "Death Wish" in this clip. Funny how Cavett couldn't even remember the name of the film. Goldblum is a very good actor tho'. He's even good in fun goofy stuff like "Transylvania 6-5000."
The first movie I ever worked on was Fathers and Sons. I was a camera intern. Great experience. Jeff Goldblum was very cool, if a bit...strange. Fathers and Sons was also the debut movie of Famke Jansenn. It was Rory Cochrane's second movie I believe. It also had Samuel Jackson in it. I asked someone who he was when I first saw him. The answer I got was "he was the guy who robbed McDowells in Coming to America". Then I remembered. Little did I know. Rosanna Arguette, Bitty Schram (her debut as well) and John C. McGinley were also in it. I actually remember the "emotional" scene he talks about where the crew teared up, however, the room was so confined, I had to stay downstairs during actual shooting. I do clearly remember hearing Jeff Goldblum acting out the scene he's talking about. Also, in another scene, Jeff Goldblum slaps Rory Cochrane. The first take he didn't slap him. He did on the second take, catching Rory off guard. The shoving back and forth wasn't scripted and was Rory just going with it. Based on the director's reaction during the filming of that scene as it was happening, I thought it was going to be cut. He didn't seem to like what was happening, but not only is it in the film, it's in the trailer.
Rory Cochrane plays his son in Fathers and Sons and he's such a fantastic actor it boggles the mind he's not well known... you know him, but you don't know his name... he was the Stoner in Dazed and Confused.
@@suttercane6 Its more the fact how real it felt, thats why it was legit horrible. One thing 70s movies did well is they tended to make conversations or interactions feel natural and realistic... including those horrible scenes :o
That scene was disturbingly real back then
The Fly and Jurassic Park are his best roles. No question.
And Invasion of the Body Snatchers
I prefer 'Tenspeed and brown shoe'

Bronson/Kersey would have blown his head off right away if he found out he invaded his home.

"Something about your favorite color."
"Verde."
Same, Jeff.
I was watching death wish while I checked UA-cam and this came up!
He was so great in that movie 🍿it's hard to think he is good to a woman in real life
What disappointed me, is that Bronson, didn't get these thugs, but he did, kill alot of criminals, on the way!
He gets them in the book.
I love these clips.
God he is so fine
Yaaaassss, he's one of the ultimate baes 😍❤️🔥
@@NyanHomeschoolGirl17 forever!
That Goldblum pose from Jurassic Park is Classic!
Dick Cavett was so awkward in his interviewing.
That's typical.
"I was thrilled to be Freak #1, and be able to fatally batter a woman, whilst calling her a c***"
This is awesome
“Both.” Chills.
Jeff is Jimmy Stewart of the 80s
I’m gonna paint her Go…………
"ass!"....
Always liked Jeff goldblum
Ehhh
My gf said she'd gladly let Jeff have his way with her.
Has she seen the movie?
In the ass?
Jeff Goldblum , a man that is extremely comfortable within himself more than anyone I have ever seen anyone in my life.
When Jeff Goldblum says "delinquent" he channels his inner Tim Curry.
I don't remember that early role, but I remember him in The Fly. He was brilliant as the scientist turned human-fly! If you stay, I'll hurt you.
Watch that early roll, it is is tough scene to watch,
Goldblum really is shocking in it.
His scene in death wish traumatized me when I was a kid
same
I don't expect him 😱

That is one of the hardest scenes to arch.
That's why those things have age warnings, ya know
I love his maniacal grin as he says "both."
I love Goldbum....such a great sense of humor and so human and quirky.

😂😂😂 Not guilty at all
That’s not Jeff Goldblum that’s Ian Malcolm
He did another Bronson called "St. Ives" two years after "Death Wish".

Who´s a favorite actor of Dick Cavett? The first few words of the sentence at the beginning is missing. That´s a pity.

Jeff Goldblum uses his hands so well as a body language tool, he can make you believe in anything.

4:38 for Jeff Goldblum's favourite colour in Italian. did not expect that to happen in this interview xD
Green is also my favorite colour.
These two are so brilliant and witty. A joy to watch!❤
His most underrated performance was in Deep Cover with Laurence Fishburne.
Loved the show.
Goldblum didn't want to spend too much time discussing Death Wish and his creepy role in it. He was there to promote something else.
I hated watching that scene! I always wondered how they filmed that.
Cavett: "A gang violates a women in the opening scenes of the film, don't they? And you're one of them. "
Jeff: " Yes. 😌"
I threw up when I watched that movie.
Gratuitous violence.
Peace sign on her skirt. Go figure🤔
Now I wanna watch it! I remember the Death Wish films but it's been a while since I watched one and I don't remember the first.
If this one made you puke God only knows what part 2 will do to you!
Sounds like something my mom would say.
