5 years later, and you've saved my "new" work laptop. Thank you so much for keeping this video simple and easy to understand from the users perspective.
That's awesome to hear! We're so glad we were able to help.
I ran into this problem after updating to win10 on a getac I bought. I just disabled it and it is literally a life saver. Never would have thought this was the issue
Wow! Thanks for sharing! And thanks for watching!
Got dell rugged, was trying to figure out wtf was happening for like straight 5hurs... reinstallled 3 different windows systems from 8.1 to 11.... thanks man, luv u!
Glad that we could help. Thanks for watching.
Wow. That issue has been beating me up for days now on all my CF-31s. It was bats**t crazy issue! Thanks a ton BJC!!
No problem! Thanks for watching!
Great video - this put me in the right direction! Unfortunately, I didn't see Microsoft Serial BallPoint in Device Manager. In the CF-31, I had to go to Device Manager >> "Human Interface Devices" and disable "HID-compliant touchscreen." This worked for me! Although there was a subtle difference in your solution, I give this video full credit for helping me resolve my issue - Thanks!
Ah. Thanks for letting us know about that! Glad this helped you! Don't forget to subscribe so you don't miss future fixes!
Same thank you
Same here with a Windows 11 enabled CF-31, HID compliant Touchscreen was the issue!
@@Ali410000same with CF-54, disabling HID touchscreen worked around the issue... Hopefully touch can be fixed with drivers? Wonder what causes it
@@raiden72 in our case it was likely water ingress from outdoor working. We've since discovered the low cost solution of oversized clear plastic bags does a very good job of stopping water ingress, even with USB connections. Some colleagues are very dismissive of bulgin connectors and similar options, I'm more ambivalent about them. Getting back to our broken ones perhaps new drivers or updating the drivers might restore them
Brilliant! I had reformatted my sister's Toughbook CF19 and was really worried when the mouse kept on jumping around. This fixed it instantly. Thanks very much!!
Great to hear! Glad we could help.
You saved my sanity. Thought I had major issues. You guys are awesome
Glad we could help Mark! Don't forget to subscribe so you don't miss out on our future fixes!
NAILED IT! Man was that ever an annoying bug. One windows update fixed mine, then another reactivated this issue. But that's the fix a guy wants to see!
Thanks man
Glad it helped!
Picked up a Gen 5 CF-31 off ebay for cheap because it stated the touchpad was bad, the instructions in here worked great. Works even with windows 10!
Nice! Glad we could help!
Nailed it. I found the best way to handle this is to remote into the afflicted device with an agent that allows you to lock the user's keyboard and mouse. This allows you to more easily interact with the Device Manager.
Windows pro 10 CD d1 had this issue, followed video and all sorted, very frustrating but saved me taking it to a computer shop, thank you for the video on this
Holy Toledo, thank you so very much for this!! I happen to have one of the non touchscreen CF-30s; getting to that screen was a living, ceaseless, unending hell. Once I finally did, it worked just fine.
I don't know about a complete solution. But the following helped me out:
Edit the value "Start" in the Registry from "3" to "4" in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SerMouse
Because, i had to change a few offline images, i could only change the above settings in a offline registry.
Until today - this was enough for me.
Btw: when you edit an offline registry, "CurrentControlSet" maybe is NOT present!
To edit the above setings, you have to search under: "Control001" !
HKLM OFFLINE System Controlset001 Sermouse --> change start value from 3 to 4
Thanks for you help. It works with me. I apreciate that a lot. I´m used to have and work with your products here in Brazil. These are the best. Thanks again.
Thanks for watching!
Fabulous, this worked on my new to me Windows 10 laptop. I was trying to update drivers but that was not the problem. It was crazy and I fixed it using the touch screen on it. Thanks, thanks, thanks!
Great to hear!
Still a lifesaver for Windows10 in 2021. Thanks!
Your welcome
worked like a charm. CF31 windows 10 did a windows update and had this issue after reboot. I ended up using teamviewer to get to device manager window by disabling remote input.
Thanks
Cool
It's also possible (at last on FZ-G1) to disable GPS in BIOS. That stops the cursor jumping during OS installation.
This is correct! Thanks for taking the time to share!
Thank you for this. You may find it easier to do this, if you boot the tab into safe mode, then the cursor does not jump around. To enter safe mode, just plug a usb keyboard in, hold down shift key and click on restart from the Start menu.
Thanks for watching. I like that method.
That was extremely frustrating... a great test of patience. I'm going to start implementing that into my hiring process. haha.
Thanks Buddy, this had been driving me nuts for hours, much appreciated.
Your welcome. Thanks for watching.
If your gps is connected by usb, take it out and the error will stop, long enough for you to bring device manager up. Quick tip in run just type devmgmt.msc should bring up device manager quickly
Thanks so much for this! Solved my issue on a Toughbook FZ-G1 MK2 also
Great to hear! You're welcome!
you saved me on my Getac V110 with a fresh windows 10 install from this issue! it was driving me frigging NUTS! i would install a new driver for something, and WHAM i lose control of the mouse this saved my sanity... since i would lose control randomly When i have the unit in my vehicle
Thanks for watching
Thank you very much! Worked like a charm.
No problem, thanks for watching.
Worked on Toughpad FZ-G1 W10
Thank you for this well laid out video! My recently acquired CF-31 has Win10 and they did a factory re-install on it.
My question is: Do I need to get all the way through set up? (I saw a web page instructing to go into Safe Mode, then disable that driver. My problem is I can't get into Safe Mode before set up is complete because it wants the password for 'DefaultUser(0)' and it appears no one knows what that would be.....
Thanks for any help you can give!

We won't tell him if you don't.

navigate through keyboard : win+R type: devmgmt.msc , hit enter, with tab, alt arrow keys navigate to device and you can also disable it from context menu or with alt at the top.
Thanks
My pc isn't touch screen but my mouse keep acting like this
Samr

Hi Gerardo, you as well! Thank you so much. We're so glad it helped!
Thank you this was my issue - I thought the laptop was trashed. I had to do a reinstall from another laptop and logged into a screen with a jumping mouse.
Your Welcome
@@Bobjohnson I just disabled the GPS in the bios we don't use it on laptop as the car has it built in for deputies location.
Worked like a charm. Thanks.
Great to hear!
Thanks
No problem. Don't forget to subscribe! :)
I don’t have these options
Every time I use my PC, when I point my mouse on the screen, it automatically jumps to the top of the screen. How do I fix this problem?

@@Bobjohnson do you have any tutorial on how to remove the GPS device inside? i think its much better to remove the gps hardware to prevent further recurrence of the jumping mouse problem.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!I thought I was hacked!
Your Welcome
Thank you from 2021 December
Thanks. It was driving me crazy. I removed the touch board and disabled the touchpad from bios and still the mouse wasgiong like crazy.
thanks! fixed
Glad I could help!
What if you don’t have Microsoft serial ballpoint? I only have touchpad drop-down.

Worked perfect o. My CF31 after I updated drivers and everything went wonky
Glad we could help! Thanks for watching!
Am clicking on disabling touch pad its inactive
Is this only a problem when your running windows?
OMG, I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
👍👍👍
Still works even on a Dell 7202
Perfect! Thanks for sharing! And thanks for watching!
That option wasn't there for me I used a USB mouse then deleted the versapad and drives then reboot & the pad is now working
Do you have a GPS installed?
@@Bobjohnson no I installed the cf-19 mk5/6 bundle pack & the pad stopped working properly so I used a usb mouse to delete the driver & let Windows update sort it
CF-31 I disabled MS Serial BallPoint, then the jumping came back. Can I uninstall that driver? If so, what do you think will break or not work anymore? Disable GPS in BIOS under Serial Port section stops the jumping mouse. Then when GPS disabled in BIOS, "Microsoft Serial BallPoint" was no longer visible in Device Manager. I'd like to keep GPS enabled, does anyone have any permanent fix ideas for this? Windows 10 Pro 64bit 22H2. Gen 5 CF-31, Intel i5 5300U 2.30GHz 16GB RAM. No other missing drivers in Device Manager. Thank you.

Works GREAT! Thanks for the info!!! :-)
Bro seriously if it's work then I will sure subscribe your channel
lifesaver :))
bro when I move my mouse up or down it moves itself left or right how to fix that
Try this: www.bobjohnson.com/blog/how-to-calibrate-the-touch-screen-on-your-toughbook/
Well it does happen on a FZ-G1 with a NEO-M8 gps module running win 10 1803, it really sucks to know you just bought a Toughbook with an upgraded GPS module that you are just going to disable in order to be able to USE the Toughbook at all.
When you go to BIOS>Advanced, change GPS status to enabled to see the I/O IRQ it uses, the GPS module shows under Device Manager as COM3, and when you change the view to "Devices by connenction" you see this "Microsoft Serial BallPoint" under COM3.
I see this bug is known for a very long time and as of January 2019 I have not found a REAL solution for this. Disabling the GPS module shown as "Microsoft Serial BallPoint" is unacceptable for those who bought a Toughbook in order to use the upgraded GPS module.
Hello, any chance you found a solution to this?
Totally fixed my problem on a Toughpad FZ-G1. Thanks, Windows for once again thinking you know better than the user and adding in a ghost driver no-one asked for. Ugh.
We're happy to hear we helped you solve the problem! Thanks for watching!
Still working on windows 10
Thanks for watching!
I'm not finding this on my windows 10.
Not finding what in windows 10?
You saved me a lot of frustration. I hope good karma catches up to you brother.
We really appricate that! We're happy to help and thanks for watching!
What if I uninstalled it?
You should be able to disable the GPS in bios and that should also solve the problem.
@@Bobjohnson Thanks, we got control of the mouse, but we need to use the GPS. Do you know if there is a solution to this?
@@TheExel2000 You have 2 choices. 1. The easiest is to download the registry patch from panasonics support page under drivers for your model. or you can 2. You will need to enable the gps then start laptop go to device manager and choice "mice and other pointing devices. Disable the one that says Microsoft serial ball mouse. You will need to use the shortcut keys to do this since your mouse is bouncing everywhere.
Hope this helps.
@@Bobjohnson Thanks! I found the GPS Registry Patch for Windows 10. I'll give that a try and see if that works.
...Make the mouse wear heavy shoes.
Hoow about Windos+R --> CMD --> shutdown /s --> Restart in safe mode ?
If it is not possible to mange "online" ?
Btw: I wish, i knew all data from this shitty driver!
Adresses ID's ect.
IF i had them: are there equal alltime? to other OS and 32bit or 64bit systems?
I would really preciate that - if knew all that............
Guys, i have FZ-G1 mk3 with windows 10 1809 version with WWAN+GPS, and most of the time after coming back from sleep touch screen becoming "sticky" it means that if i touch with finger its thinking that im touching constantly, if touching with pen all is good. only finger. i made clean version of windows istallation, no help, i put all drivers from panasonic support page, nothing helps, you think it is touchscreen hardware problem? ua-cam.com/video/n7mZ2tUoeG0/v-deo.html
If it only happens after coming out of sleep mode I feel like it is a driver issue.
I hope so, but i already tried everything, reinstalling windows, going back from 1903 to 1809, deleting drivers one by one. And just today i noticed, that when this happens im cleaning screen with cotton cloth and this fixing my problem, im confused.
SubscrIbed!
We appreciate the support!
