Personally I love Digimon and it is my favorite show. I find all the characters are likable and relatable, the villains are memorable, the world they create is amazing and the themes discussed in the show are great (such as redemption and the search for ones purpose in life)just to name a few things.

....in terms of the games, it is for any tv show, basically people want to see characters grow and change, ash LITERALLY looks and acts the same now as he did in season 1, what would really help is bring in a new protagonist, and/or age ash appropriately, give him a romance (we all wanted to see him and misty get together), and make him a changing character, hell the main characters of digimon season 3 went through more character development in 51 episodes than ash has in over 15 years

1) we never speak of what happened to sora in season 2 2) the thing is, ash has never shown any romantic feelings at all, theirs messing up a romance and then theirs have one sided romances with an oblivious character for 14 years
yes i know jessie and james and meowth have a lot of backstory and to a degree brock has a bit but really thats it there is no backstory for ash but in digimon each character has 1 tai and kari: they were the first to build a connection with a digimon and the story of when kari got sick and all matt and t.k: were separated when they were kids and thats why matt is so overprotective of t.k sora: she learns her mother did truly love her but never thought she did when she was a kid

That one was just a collection of three shorter Digimon movies, Digimon Adventure and Our War Game from the Adventure series, and Hurricane Touchdown for the 02 series, that Toei produced to promote the show. The dialogue was changed in the English version and it really harms it. I don't think he'll review that one because it's after his cutoff date.
I find that one reason he wouldn't review digimon (if he actually ever did, it would probably just be a raiders of the story ark of the first couple episodes) is that the wonderful JesuOtaku has done a brilliant retrospective of the first two seasons, and is half done with the 3rd one
"save the world" let me think... ash has to go through region after region, going through hell of being attacked constantly, pokemon having their own stories -aka goodbye butterfree for one- and personalities, having to save themselves from danger 24/7, having to save their pokemon, save others from that danger, and CONSTANTLY fighting off the teams while overall trying to get all 8 gym badges -failing in the anime- and fight the elite 4. check out the manga too btw. lavender town as well.

first, being a main character is not necessarely equal to the amount of screen time when you have more than one. a character having a backstory and character traits adds dimension, and thus quality to the work and the character the mere existence of the games or backstory does not justify his lack of character, nor does it make him any less of a mary sue, also like i said, it's from a different medium and it was never translated to tamers, so it's as good as irrelevant

Everyone likes him and looks up to him except for Rika He manages to reach the highest level of evolution He's able to take in the powers of another fully evolved Digimon to aid him in battle, the person who gave them to him remarking that it could kill him but if anyone could do it, it would be him. He is not shown with a single flaw other than "I came to the digital world and don't know how to get back home sorry buddy, you can stay in denial if you want

@luke8979 I recall him saying in his "Top Ten Nostalgia Critic Reviews I'll Never Do" video, that he wouldn't review Spider-Man TAS because it wasn't a show he actually watched when he was a kid, and as a result, he didn't really have a recollection of it, as compare to shows like Captain Planet and Full House, which he did actually watch. It's harder to review a whole show tan it is to review a movie because you really need to have a good knowledge of it before you review it.

and it is not even that. it is ash never learns from his mistakes and he keeps on making them in every episode and we can't see a good backstory but there is 1 episode or digimon called 'my sisters keeper' and it showed tai as a emotional wreck as his sister is ill and he can help her and it brings back memories of a similar story from his past and how he wants the best for his sister because of what he did. also ash never goes beyond 10 but tai matt and others do and it still works in season 2
1: they just recently got it. look it up. 2: no you clearly have not considering the fact of what team rocket do which is kill a child, a marowak, cut off slowpoke tails, and more 3: too much violence is overboard which is exactly what digimon does all the time which makes it pointless
The show is about each adventure, the lessons taught, what happens next and how the chars handle it. Its a fucking action adventure anime after all. However the chars DO have good backstory. Look up a pokemon episode called "Go west young meowth" It shows Meowths backstory and a lot more, the chars that have the most backstory are the villeins after all. Jessie, James and Meowth have a lot of backstory.

I don't know enough about Digimon to say any of them are lame or that the series is better or worse than pokemon, but I personally find Charizard, Tyranitar, Feraligatr, Gyrados, Groudon, Haunter, Deoxys, Mewtwo, Lucario, Metagross, Onix, Rayquaza, Aggron, Houndoom and Kyogre to be pretty badass, myself. i'm talking about the way they treat it, even though the pokemon from the first generations are fairly different from digimons, the newer pokemons are flat out copies of digimon, not to say that digimon, both the manga and the first season are far better than pokemon, that rehashes the same story line and nop character develops, in fact, pokemon removes many characters so that they won't develop (misty, may, etc), and the whole thing is just about battle, when digimon had much more than that.
I think both of you make pretty good points, but here's my thoughts, now mind you I am a huge pokemon and digimon fan, but in my mind, digimon has always had the better show/ movies while pokemon has always had the better games. The reason, pokemon always tries to follow the story, or at least the plot railroad of the games, even in the movies to a degree, the digimon shows and movies created their own stories, and weren't forced to follow a plot made for a gameboy color game...

It's true. I watched Digimon because I liked how they made it for the kids who had grown up and were over Pokemon. Although, I was never into pokemon in the first place. In fact, I think some Digimon use Pokemon as basketballs.

Yeah, it may sound wierd, but it's as good as all the six other seasons. Great character development for everyone, and it has one of those stories you don't come along that often. Worth a watch. :)
well not according to he writers, and thank god that it isn't that way, because would mean that the characters we have been loving since the first season were'nt real even in their own universe, and therefore it would be a slap to the face of every fan that loved the past seasons, sure some fans might like getting slapped in the face, but most of them don't

@luke8979 I recall him saying in his "Top Ten Nostalgia Critic Reviews I'll Never Do" video, that he wouldn't review Spider-Man TAS because it wasn't a show he actually watched when he was a kid, and as a result, he didn't really have a recollection of it, as compare to shows like Captain Planet and Full House, which he did actually watch. It's harder to review a whole show tan it is to review a movie because you really need to have a good knowledge of it before you review it.
I've watched it, was bad, it should feel bad. But seriously, problems I had with those two shows is that I always wondered "WHY DON'T THEY JUST HIT EACH OTHER WITH WEAPONS!" or "How do those monsters even become stronger through bonding with humans? They're from a computer.... yeah, it wasn't good.

and it is not even that. it is ash never learns from his mistakes and he keeps on making them in every episode and we can't see a good backstory but there is 1 episode or digimon called 'my sisters keeper' and it showed tai as a emotional wreck as his sister is ill and he can help her and it brings back memories of a similar story from his past and how he wants the best for his sister because of what he did. also ash never goes beyond 10 but tai matt and others do and it still works in season 2

The show is about each adventure, the lessons taught, what happens next and how the chars handle it. Its a fucking action adventure anime after all. However the chars DO have good backstory. Look up a pokemon episode called "Go west young meowth" It shows Meowths backstory and a lot more, the chars that have the most backstory are the villeins after all. Jessie, James and Meowth have a lot of backstory.

well, actually pokemon seasons 1-3 (orange isles counting as 2) (1-3 being the only seasons with some growth and change in the characters and plot) were on when digimon seasons 1-3 were on if I remember right, the thing is digimon got better during this progression, while pokemon began to decline, something that has gotten steadily worse since the end of season 3

The problem with your argument is that its opinion-based. I don't know enough about Digimon to say any of them are lame or that the series is better or worse than pokemon, but I personally find Charizard, Tyranitar, Feraligatr, Gyrados, Groudon, Haunter, Deoxys, Mewtwo, Lucario, Metagross, Onix, Rayquaza, Aggron, Houndoom and Kyogre to be pretty badass, myself. If you disagree with me, that's fine. You're entitled to your opinion.

okay, let's pretend pokemon is about battle and adaventure, digimon still had much more than that, and pokemon is still rehashing the first season over and over.
i'm talking about the way they treat it, even though the pokemon from the first generations are fairly different from digimons, the newer pokemons are flat out copies of digimon, not to say that digimon, both the manga and the first season are far better than pokemon, that rehashes the same story line and nop character develops, in fact, pokemon removes many characters so that they won't develop (misty, may, etc), and the whole thing is just about battle, when digimon had much more than that.
I think both of you make pretty good points, but here's my thoughts, now mind you I am a huge pokemon and digimon fan, but in my mind, digimon has always had the better show/ movies while pokemon has always had the better games. The reason, pokemon always tries to follow the story, or at least the plot railroad of the games, even in the movies to a degree, the digimon shows and movies created their own stories, and weren't forced to follow a plot made for a gameboy color game...

It's true. I watched Digimon because I liked how they made it for the kids who had grown up and were over Pokemon. Although, I was never into pokemon in the first place. In fact, I think some Digimon use Pokemon as basketballs.

Yeah, it may sound wierd, but it's as good as all the six other seasons. Great character development for everyone, and it has one of those stories you don't come along that often.
