One of my favorite cars is an Alpine. It was my first car that my grandfather bought for me. It was purchased in England in 1966 for a European tour. Though I treasured it, I couldn’t afford to keep it running as it was so undependable. It’s body was designed by the same person who designed the first Thunderbirds.
That 'archaic jack' took me back to changing wheels on my 1969 Hillman Minx. Insert into the square section tube and screw the nut on top to lift. Glad you made it back relatively easily. And nice to see the MGAs & Magnette represented.
Your troubles are typical. The day I acquired my 1970 Morgan 4/4, the fuel pump died within 10 minutes of my inaugural drive with her. The next time I drove her, I discovered that the fuel gauge did not work - and that while sitting on the slightly sloped shoulder of the road, 2 gallons of petrol didn't even get the fuel level up to the bottom of the pickup tube.
Love your patience ~ no screaming or moaning
I like how you handled yourself. Few of us can say we would’ve been as cool under pressure as you. Cheers.
My favorite channel. All Rootes Group cars were very nice to drive. I loved the Hillman Hunter GT before Chrysler took over.
Fixing an old car by the roadside on a longer trip is all part of the adventure!

I love your love for old British cars. Subscribed. Also, your easy manner is great to see.
Max Smart also drove an Alpine in Get Smart
probably flakes of old paint from the insides of the twin tanks getting stuck in your fuel-pump / filter / carbs. nice car.
What are your rpm’s at while going highway speeds?

Heh, fuel pump. My first thought ... is he going to hit it with a hammer? :-)
Not exactly huge failures.
Fuel pump probably got a tiny bit of crap caught in it and jammed it.
Imagine that a Brit car that broke down.
That's what The Doctor calls "percussive maintenance".
