- What's a switchel? It's a refreshing, fermented health drink that is hydrating and energizing. In this video I show a variation of a switchel where I ferment it with a ginger bug left over from my ginger beer video and then I flavor it with berries and fresh basil. This switchel recipe is so easy to make and tastes so good, you have to try this easy fermentation out!
TheBruSho is your guide to make home brewing simplified. From beginner lessons to tip and tricks to equipment breakdowns, all to give you the confidence to brew your first beer and beyond. Here's the Ginger Beer video for more on how to get started with a Ginger Bug! ua-cam.com/video/6u5gStDMziQ/v-deo.html
i remember drinking this in the forties, it was the poor peoples soft drink
I haven't made it yet, but I think I will make some kind of fermented tea with it.
Yum! Thank you so much! I'm inspired 🥰
I have to try this combo. Sounds absolutely delicious. Thank you so much❤❤❤
Looks very refreshing! Cheers Trent !
It is! Thanks man!
This looks so yummy & easy to make!
Super simple!
Sounds nice and refreshing! Beautiful color too!
Yeah super refreshing. Could be a hangover cure!
The master of all ferments.
Haha master of none, but lover of all things fermented
Got basil growing in my apartment. Going to give this a try once I get my ginger bug going. Put him on the shelf next to my booch!
Trent with the delicious looking alternatives to beer!!! I had a hibiscus lime hard seltzer yesterday and thought of your brews 🍻
That sounds amazing, I love color and flavor that Hibiscus gives!
Great! I'll have to try it!
Nice yeah give it a go, super refreshing!
Your video made a great nightcap! Add this to my saved videos to try some day.
Awesome I love to hear that thanks!
Bru! You're getting me addicted to brewing... Don't stop hahahaha
Haha my evil plan is working! 😅 Thanks!
Yeah you like it when they make you brew don’t you? Gonna brew you sooooo hard…
Definately wanna do this!
Yeaaa do it! Let me know what you think
Came from the Homebrew Challange and I wish I’d found your channel sooner, so many interesting videos to watch!
Welcome glad you’re here!
Ice Balls😍 that’s also a tasty looking beverage 🍻
Haha yes very refreshing! Give it a try!
looking good braj!
Cheers man thanks! 🍻
Plastic will retain smells and flavors....for anyone who wants to do this a lot, gallon size glass carboys are pretty cheap. If you want to get into brewing larger batches, 5 gallon glass carboys are the standard....but I highly recommend going for the 6 gallon ones. I don't think there is much of a price difference if at all, and with a 6 gallon carboy, you can make wine.
great video.. thanks for this
Thank you and your welcome! 😄
Looks refreshing! I'm sure this would be a hit at a BBQ or sitting poolside
100% would be great for a BBQ! I would make a big batch and serve it up!
Love it! We've made switchel before with apple cider vinegar, honey, turmeric, and water but this sounds amazing! I'm definitely trying this. Your exploration of other fermentable drinks is inspiring!
That sounds delicious! And yeah I love learning about new ferments. Thanks for watching!
hi!!! how are you???
I love your tutorials!!! Question...Can I use this ginger bug instead of the kefir to make soda???
Thanks and cheers from San Diego!!!
I love fermenting all sorts of food and drink and find your channel a great resource. I was wondering if I could do a 'hard' version of this recipe by adding more sugars and allowing a longer ferment? Or would it just get too acidic?
Thanks! I think it would keep fermenting but I’m not sure how strong you could get it from just the ginger bug. You could add more sugar and then add a brewers yeast if you really wanted it to be strong
@@TheBruSho 👍👍
Hi any ideas on how to use my ginger bug that hasn't fermented? Used another recipe. Don't want to waste it. It's about 9 days old. Starting to get a little cold here in South Africa. Would be grateful for your feedback. New subscriber 😊
Can one just consume after the 2 days? If so how do you store in the fridge to not get carbonation?
This looks too good
Yeah very tasty definitely going to be making more!
So do you generally use all of the ginger bug or discard the ginger within in and then start adding new to keep it going? I jhave a ginger big that is rampacked full of ginger now
How many bottles should I buy ( from your link) for this recipe?
What is the shelf life of these?
Do you keep it on the counter when you are trying to wake it up after being in the fridge for 6 months?
Do you have to strain the ginger bug?
After waking it up wouldn't i have to add more water?? If I used some previously? And i can use fresh fruit too.? I'd love to know. New subscriber.
Yeah you can refresh some of the water but I would keep a bit of the old bug to have it come back to life faster
How do you stop fermentation altogether? To increase shelf life and avoid explosions?
Stabilization/pasteurization through heat or chemicals is the only way
I have questions I’ve been scouring the internet to find so I’d rather not do the counter pressure method for filling the kegs because I am limited to funds so I was wondering if the kegs could be depressurized disassembled filled then reassembled and have it’s same function? I was also wondering if the function could work with a thicker liquid and not just beer would love to hear back from you
Not sure I fully understand your question but you can totally fill up kegs from the opening in the top and then close it. And yeah you can use thicker liquid (not sure what) but I’m guessing it would take more pressure/co2 to push it out. Hit me up on discord if that doesn’t answer your question
@@TheBruSho This helps a bunch thank you for your response
Se hace jengibre miel ñon y vinagre
Is this basically kombucha?
In some ways yes but kombucha is usually made with a SCOBY. I have a video on kombucha if your curious on how to make it
why did you make the fermentation first in the big jar and then ferment it in each bottle ? I mean why not just ferment it on each bottle ?
I guess you’re referring to the ginger bug? That’s so I can keep the culture alive and make future batches instead of starting from scratch every time
rootbeer with it?
I did that! ua-cam.com/video/_aJDOb-xL90/v-deo.html

His name is Trent Musho and his Channel name is Thebrusho which basically mean The Brew Show
Put the fizz back in a flat Coke with my gingerbug.
Wow that’s awesome! Haha great thinking
@@TheBruSho and the Coke taste better.
Great video! Two questions!
Does this have any % of alcohol in it when it’s time to drink it from the bottles?
What would be the amount of ingredients if I wanted to make a 5 gallon batch?
Thank you!!
Hey thanks! I would say there are trace amounts of alcohol, under 1%. And since this is a 1/2 gallon recipe I would say to just multiply everything by 10
Fermented switchel? Sounds made up
I did make it up
Sorry bud,but that's not original switsel
Pretty sure I said that like 40 seconds into the video bud
