- Hi everyone, this is Winnie 😊
Someone requested for making a portrait of Bam Bam with a reference picture. However, a male’s portrait is always more difficult than female’s, because less makeup 😂
In this video I showed my working progress from start to finished.
I tried with a new type of paper to trace, but didn’t work so well, I end up drawing again, much easier though, thanks to the outlines.
I might have made it look too easy, because I have edited out all the hesitations and struggles from the video. But every time I’m not sure what I’m doing, just hope for the best. It took me 50 hours to make, and 4 hours footage edited into 17 minutes.
It’s challenging but I’m happy with the result. I hope you guys like it. 😊
Stitches used: Needle Painting, random stitch
Fabric: Thin linen
Thread: DMC Embroidery Floss 1 strand, silk thread

😍 Another Amazing looking face! My favorite parts are how you do the hair! It looks so realistic with highlights and everything else. You’re very detailed. I Hope you do more portraits, especially of a woman looking to the side with long wavy, curly dark hair. I’ve never seen anyone stitch a pattern like the one I Hope to see one of these days. 🤞🏽

Thank you. Portrait is probably the most difficult embroidery, I normally use 30-40 colors just for the skin
Wooow 🤩 can you please tell me what are the number of the flosses you used to make the skin?
I use 840-842 for this piece, also ECRU and white, but it’s not really about the colors, it’s more important to get the contrast right. You can use other colors to creat the same effect.

Thank you, I use DMC no.25, for the cloth, can use cotton, linen or canvas

You can try to practice long and short stitch, and use more colors will make it easier
If you watch people paint portraits first you will see that they use different colours to draw faces not just the colour of their skin. No matter of peoples skin colour we all have different shades of greens, blues, yellows, pinks… in our skin tone. Look closely and you’ll find them! It would be easier then to find your highlights and shadows ❤️

Please tell solution for neck pain and finge tip pain due to holding needle
I guess taking a break for at least 5-10 minutes every hour? If you work too long and keeping the same position you will have pain for sure. Make sure to stretch your body during the break. For the finger you can try embroidery ring or gloves
