What I love most about the Antlers is the cyclical nature of their albums. I can listen to this album (and hospice, for that matter) as one continuous song. What's better is their strategic repetition of melodies (ie., first song mirrors the last song) that ties the entire thing together in a nice big bow. I couldn't think higher praise if I tried.
I find it's as though the albums drive home a primary message, well telling a narrative throughout. Then there are songs in the middle, or at the end that summarize the story and message thus far.
Actual track listing for those who want it, not just the song lengths. In the Attic - 0:00 Look! - 5:02 On the Roof - 6:50 Shh! - 10:34 The Universe is Going to Catch You - 13:52 The Carrying Arms - 17:46 In the Snow - 19:34 Stairs to the Attic - 22:06
first time hearing any other album besides hospice and burst apart and i listened to it as a whole. Not as tragic as hospice but twice as beautiful and inspiring. i love it
I'll have to add aswell This album means more to me than hospice just because it connects a lot more to me. Feels like I'm spiritually changing with this album. Every listen is just the euphoria. I would also recommend playing hospice first then listening to this one as a whole. It creates an even more atmospheric and spiritual journey!
Doing that right now! Just finished Hospice and am now starting ITAOTU. Favorites from Hospice: Kettering, Thirteen (or Two, not sure which one), Wake.
I love this album. It helped me in high school, and I haven't returned to it in almost ten years. Sitting here locked in my room, still in college, I'm hoping it can still do the same. Only one more semester.
When I was really depressed last fall I would come how and lay and bed and listen to this album. There was something so comforting about it, and the concept of just being a small speck in the universe in general. Ive gotten somewhat better since then, but recently Ive been finding myself coming back to this album more. Its not casual listening for me, it just makes a return in my life when I need it to, whether I know it or not.
In The Attic: Completely awake in the back of the car I don't drift anymore All's come into place And I unlock the door If you have to warm up you can go back inside But I'm not gonna follow forward I've come to prefer Sleeping outdoors Upstairs and downstairs And outside on the roof Small stars and steel bars Say the ghosts up in the attic tell the truth Standing on shingles at night Can't you see that there's a reason? This Album will forever mean SO much to me. Me and my ex (who sadly passed away) listened to it all the time, the even introducwd me to them... RIP and i will love you forever
"In the Snow" sounds almost like a mix between "I Don't Want Love" from Burst Apart and "Bear" from Hospice. It's interesting because this album was released years before either of the other two were even a thought. Beautiful, don't you think?
Kayla Marasia Peter definitely has a certain way of writing albums. He seems to like reusing melodies, the second incarnation usually being a slow acoustic version.
Three albums, creature allure by which I have listened upon by this group on this night. Depression was felt upon this stage of reality, yet there, nevermore near: I was saved be they, The Antlers.... :)
this reminds me of everything that i forgot had existed. i was skeptical about only listening all the way through but i ended up listening to it twice in a row. dont dismember this creature, its a lifeform unto itself.
Thanks for the upload. I prefer this album as one long song. Kind of wish that's how it was released. Every song blends into the next as if they were meant to be played in one go.
+Skullkan6 I actually managed to track down a cd copy so thank you so much for introducing me to this fantastic album! It stays in my car constantly as a backup for my phone.
you can totally see the influence the microphones has on the antlers' music (they were named after a microphones song!) especially the last song, which takes the "i'm small" from "I Felt My Size". the two albums do go well together!
Pete Silberman's lyrics are truly beautiful... when you can hear them clearly. I seriously hope that The Antlers reissue their albums with the original master tapes but with more emphasis done on the vocals.
I feel like that's part of the intent. Focus any more on the words and you lose the impact that the instrumentation is. I actually find them to be clearer here than on Hospice. (although I've been trying to listen to more The Antlers albums, some of their stuff is harder to take for an extended period of time without a driving concept)
+Carlos Diaz I'm really REALLY into how the antlers always bury the vocals. I think so much music now is so vocals-centric that having them so soft 1) makes the antlers sound really distince and 2) makes it more emotional and less situational.
They were this year in OFF Festival (Katowice, Poland). I've been there. I was lucky to hear them. Now they are one of my favorite bands. They're marvelous.
+Miawolf16 I found it. Somehow. I don't check my notifications on here often, not rate my favorite albums, but I suppose I can give it a try. Warning, I have exceptionally varied taste, although a lot of it falls into alt and prog. This list is probably going to change over time. 1. Archive - Controlling Crowds Parts I-IV 2. Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Lift Yr. Skinny Fists like Antennas to Heaven (tie it with F#A# if you want) 3. Type O Negative - October Rust 4. Comus - First Utterance 5. The Antlers - In the Attic of the Universe. 6. David Bowie - Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars 7. Radiohead - OKComputer 8. Neurosis - Times of Grace 9. Aphrodites Child - 666 10. At the Drive-In - Relationship of Command
This album is about coming to terms with death One of my favorite albums of all time. I'm truly lucky to own a legit cd copy. Also, if this album gets pressed to vinyl I will cry. I need a copy on wax.
1. "In the Attic" 2. "Look!" 3. "On the Roof" 4. "Shh!" 5. "The Universe is Going to Catch You" 6. "The Carrying Arms" 7. "In the Snow" 8. "Stairs to the Attic"
whenever I hear Shh! it reminds me of an Autistic child peering into the starry abyss, using his expressive imagination and fascination of the cosmos in order to cope with the isolation and severity of his disabilities, as he wonders if he's the only one out there.
I hate to sound like a music snob but there are not many bands or artists I can say I love everything they do .But The Antlers truly are !Have you heard their Hospice Album from 2008 2009...profoundly amazing album!!
wrong, the album you're talking about is called "February Tape", search for it! it's not that great but its a nice piece to listen to if you're curious! (:
It really is taking a great big dump on the listeners to deny them a time/track breakdown, because while the entire album is good and deserves a complete listen, it's hard to point out your favorite part.

+Sonny O'Rorke The Antlers have a really unique sound so not many bands make similar music, but the microphones are somewhat similar in style (the antlers are named after one of their songs actually). Beach house, cyberbully mom club, the shins, iron and wine, and neutral milk hotel are also really good if you like the antlers.
The beginning was quite horrible it sounded like someone was bunching a paper/plastic through my headphones and it lasted a minute until a musical instrument was being played I got so irritated I almost moved on to another video but it ended up that this video turned out great!
"In the Attic" - 5:02 "Look!" - 1:47 "On the Roof" -3:46 "Shh!" - 3:16 "The Universe is Going to Catch You" - 3:54 "The Carrying Arms" - 1:48 "In the Snow" - 2:31 "Stairs to the Attic" - 4:38
About 30 minutes ago, I had no idea who The Antlers were, and what kind of music they made. All I know now is that they are one hell of a good band.
I can relate to this so much. An adult trying to recapture the childhood wonder and nostalgia that nature and the world and the universe gave to him.
What I love most about the Antlers is the cyclical nature of their albums. I can listen to this album (and hospice, for that matter) as one continuous song. What's better is their strategic repetition of melodies (ie., first song mirrors the last song) that ties the entire thing together in a nice big bow. I couldn't think higher praise if I tried.
funny thing is it took a while but they finally wrote a happy album. check out Green to Gold
I find it's as though the albums drive home a primary message, well telling a narrative throughout. Then there are songs in the middle,
or at the end that summarize the story and message thus far.
I couldn’t agree more with this statement. Beautifully said. ❤️
Actual track listing for those who want it, not just the song lengths.
In the Attic - 0:00
Look! - 5:02
On the Roof - 6:50
Shh! - 10:34
The Universe is Going to Catch You - 13:52
The Carrying Arms - 17:46
In the Snow - 19:34
Stairs to the Attic - 22:06
What I love about this record is that it seems like one long 26 minute song that goes through different phases.
Me too. It's The Antlers' "Suppers ready", except suppers readyy was really just a 20 minute song.
It was recorded in one session in a friends bathroom.
first time hearing any other album besides hospice and burst apart and i listened to it as a whole. Not as tragic as hospice but twice as beautiful and inspiring. i love it
I'll have to add aswell
This album means more to me than hospice just because it connects a lot more to me.
Feels like I'm spiritually changing with this album. Every listen is just the euphoria.

I agree with the poster - always did, it should be listened to as one peice.
Thank you! The OP really should have posted this.
there's a track-list below with 49 thumbs up posted 2 years back but weirdly it's sinking into oblivion
your an amazing human
(changed and grew and so did their opinion on how art should be experienced)
This album will send you in a full spectrum of feelings.
I fully agree that this should be listened to as one long piece. It's truly a beautiful creation.
This album is really comfy and atmospheric
In The Attic:
Completely awake in the back of the car
I don't drift anymore
All's come into place
And I unlock the door
If you have to warm up you can go back inside
But I'm not gonna follow forward
I've come to prefer
Sleeping outdoors
Upstairs and downstairs
And outside on the roof
Small stars and steel bars
Say the ghosts up in the attic tell the truth
Standing on shingles at night
Can't you see that there's a reason?
The plans aren't on the ground
They're high and hanging down
Well once I remember the words
We can climb down from the rooftop
I swear that I heard it right here
Invasively clear
But I was upstairs and downstairs
And outside on the roof
Small stars and steel bars
Say the ghosts up in the attic tell the truth
Look!:
[Instrumental]
On The Roof:
Stuck to a growing black balloon
My neighbors are slowly glowing maroon
Don't throw away my broken telescopes
Who has dragged you away? Who's that carrying the rope?
Shh!:
[Instrumental]
The Universe Is Going To Catch You:
It's been a long time coming
It's not up for debate
You've been a hollowed-out apple
Though you're standing up straight
It's later than you think
And we're not gonna wait
If you continue to tell us if you continue to tell us
"The universe is going to catch you"
Well it was fine until you fell off
Of the face of the Earth
'Cause we would call you at home
And noone picked up the phone
But we were worried that you'd fallen
In the river, or worse
But then you sent us back a letter it said in capital letters
"THE UNIVERSE IS GOING TO CATCH YOU"
Come back inside
To this house
To your home
Made of steel-structured styrofoam
Nobody's out there
But someone is singing you back to your birthplace
That voice is the same voice
You heard on the same night that
Everything glowed
Took you into the air
And the arms of the Universe
Kept you from falling
But after that happened
Those arms did not come back
So when you leapt up
And nobody caught you
Your neck broke
The Carrying Arms:
[Instrumental]
In The Snow:
It got cold in the snow
And I just want to go home
I thought the stars were inside
I kept them hidden, I tried
But they kept screaming for release
They picked me up off of my feet
And brought me up through solid peace
And told me "You can't stay for long"
I woke up without arms
I stood up without arms
I couldn't walk in direction
With all this static reflection
I was lost inside a map
That I had written in a nap
When I heard a voice where branches snap
I followed it home
Stairs To The Attic:
I decided on that evening
That I was through with sitting still
I stood up and started moving
With a childlike fascination
For those doors that don't have locks
And the stairways that were blocked
So I dug through the obstruction
Put my fist around the railing
And each step was far apart
And far away from steps before it
And the air was getting thinner
Until I couldn't breathe at all
And if I happened to look behind me
There were miles and miles of stairs
Enough so I couldn't see the doorway
But I knew that it was there
And on the last step I was dizzy
Because there were stairs in all directions
But I found another door
And through the door there was the attic
Without old clothes
Without a ceiling
Everything had opened wide
Into the jaws of something bigger
And suddenly I saw that I was
Upstairs and outside and freezing on the roof
Finally it had found me
The answer, the feeling, and the truth:
That I'm small
That I'm small
That I'm small
I'm smaller than the smallest fireball
these guys are absolutely incredible, can't agree more about the fact that it should be listened to as one piece of music. just wow
Amazing album! I am fascinated by Silberman's abilities. Each song fits perfectly within the album. Nutrition for my ears.
I love this. I absolutely love this. Definitely one of the most underrated albums to this date. Thank you for uploading this.
This Album will forever mean SO much to me. Me and my ex (who sadly passed away) listened to it all the time, the even introducwd me to them... RIP and i will love you forever

saw this posted in /mu/
it's so good. I never listen to this kind of music, but this is amazing
+Locoattack 1 (LocoReads) Chances are it was me :)
I'm not the only guy who discusses it, but the only one who used to post it constantly.
+Skullkan6 I actually managed to track down a cd copy so thank you so much for introducing me to this fantastic album!
It stays in my car constantly as a backup for my phone.
I opened the video by mistake ... I fell in love. Thank you!
This band is amazing! I can feel the letters like my own thoughts.

this album and hospice are my fav that I've heard so far

I'm so glad I discovered this band, holy shit
There is another album?! Yesss! Time to leave the planet for half an hour
gotta come back to this every few months to feel something
They were this year in OFF Festival (Katowice, Poland). I've been there. I was lucky to hear them. Now they are one of my favorite bands. They're marvelous.
I've never heard of this band and saw the full album on the side so I checked it out and I love it! :D

Locoattack 1 lucky I can’t find the cd anywhere 😢
Edit: 5 days later and I just found the cd on amazon for 10 bucks 🤩
@@k2baby737 It's been 2 years but I thought I'd say I lost the CD cuz my car was totaled with this in the CD player... :(
@@locoattack1210I have a spare copy of the Fall Records release of In the Attic of the Universe if you are interested lmk!
Well thank God you posted that, or we would have never known,
1. "In the Attic" 2. "Look!" 3. "On the Roof" 4. "Shh!" 5. "The Universe is Going to Catch You" 6. "The Carrying Arms" 7. "In the Snow" 8. "Stairs to the Attic"
music keeps me alive....like all these tracks....thku
Shh! is fucking terrifying

aren't you the girl that is always in the sourcefed comments?
Damn thats depth!
makes me think of spongebob somehow
You have no idea how much I agree with this.
Listening to this directly after hospice is an experience
aah the universe is going to catch you is the best ;;
Such a wonderful record. From a wonderful band.
I guess they are working hard in the studio as we speak.
Just as good if not better than Hospice IMO
In your opinion And mine aswell :)
Excellent album, hadn't heard it before. Top band.
This is the most underrated things I've ever heard
Got the CD today, really cool. Plus the case is made from cardboard, so that rocks.
i dont think this band can possibly get any better
I hate to sound like a music snob but there are not many bands or artists I can say I love everything they do .But The Antlers truly are !Have you heard their Hospice Album from 2008 2009...profoundly amazing album!!
Madam Vonkook
No!
+Madam Vonkook Radiohead is one of those bands
+Radioheader Yes.
Definitely Radiohead. The Shins as well.
Kettering by you guys makes me feel all fuzzy inside. :)
Wonderfull , this album wasn't available on Deezer (in france) , that's just so great ! thanks mrs Doyle
Another perfect album. As usual.
you ever just so happy that something exists?
I want to get high , and cuddle to this cd.
Well...........I even liked the very beginning! AWESOME!
Gracias por subir estas cosas tan lindas
Agreed. usually its pretty easy to filter those comments out, but it is nice not to see any of that here.
wrong, the album you're talking about is called "February Tape", search for it! it's not that great but its a nice piece to listen to if you're curious! (:
the beginning gave me shivers
I think this album is about losing religion.
The attic being a metaphor for an afterlife, like heaven.
where can I buy this on cd? the band took it off their store and its 22 bucks on amazon and also not prime.
I like that part...
I wish I actually had money so i could buy every Antlers album instead of listening to it on youtube
STAIRS TO THE ATTIC
These guys play a wide range of sounds.. You have to be a listener. Interesting stuff. Parts can drag a little but I want to hear it again.
Awesome. Thank you.
i love this album
I only just realized, i think it's the end off Look! sounds like Universe :D
It really is taking a great big dump on the listeners to deny them a time/track breakdown, because while the entire album is good and deserves a complete listen, it's hard to point out your favorite part.
I thought this was all one track
Nick Power No, there are different songs in the album that merge together quite well, and makes listening to the entirety quite fulfilling, but it's still nice to see what the various songs are called and when.
Here's a tracklist: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_the_Attic_of_the_Universe
Made a tracklist and posted above, some of the tracks are pretty much perfect mixes anyway.. thanks

Cat Fakeobake omg how embarrassing.
i need to buy this.
I think it's someone walking through an abundance of gravel. I think that's clever and relaxing. But to each his own night light, as only I say.
Hm, I'd say that the Antlers should decide how it should be listened to - and they did give the tracks names. Even if the tracks have names, people can still listen to it all the way through.
love the antlers
Amazing
Really good.
i like this album alot more than hospice
the antlers is the best
Best thing to do on a Friday huh
😀❤️❤️❤️
Can anyone suggest any bands with a similar style or feel to the antlers please?!
+Sonny O'Rorke
The Antlers have a really unique sound so not many bands make similar music, but the microphones are somewhat similar in style (the antlers are named after one of their songs actually). Beach house, cyberbully mom club, the shins, iron and wine, and neutral milk hotel are also really good if you like the antlers.
+Sonny O'Rorke The Acorns
I gave them a listen, I really liked them, thanks!
+Sonny O'Rorke give Low Roar a chance
well, it's not a band, but look up the album "the glow pt. 2" by the microphones.
Upstairs and downstairs and outside on the roof
This album was recorded in a bathtub, and in an hour! Just a Little fun fact.
Take one step at a time, or you might just fall down and have to start from square one again.
fucking great
The truth is that I'm small. Smaller than the smallest fireball.
The beginning was quite horrible it sounded like someone was bunching a paper/plastic through my headphones and it lasted a minute until a musical instrument was being played I got so irritated I almost moved on to another video but it ended up that this video turned out great!
Le gasp, another follower! Praise be to his unruly locks!
But yeah. Regi knew how much I liked Hospice, so he sent me a link to this.

No offence, mate, but i appreciate hearing what peoples thoughts are about the music, and what it triggers in their mind.
Same.
I have to be careful listening to this album, otherwise it makes me too emotional to finish
its really good
u_u great!
why do the Antlers make such depressing songs, yet they are so hard to turn down?
