I am not blaming the teens, but pranking strangers is never an acceptable behavior, not only because you never know what is going on in the mind of the person behind the door, but the person is being disturbed or upsetted merely for your fun - which is wrong.

As sad to see this situation for everyone involved, it also sends a life lesson to everyone not to prank total strangers. Is there also more to this story that is not being revealed? Since he took it that far, by driving to ram the group of teenagers. Did the teenage boys repeatedly go to his door step to pull this ding dong ditch stunt? Because being 16 years old is far too old to be running around the neighborhood and knocking on people's closed doors and disrupting their quiet and private lives.
A doorbell prank did not rise to the level of a high speed chase. There will be other stupid boys who will still do the same thing.

They were actually trying ding dong ditch another friend, knowing the friend would enjoy the humor like them. However they realized too late they basically prank the wrong house and decided to leave, but this man in a drunken rage follow them into the freeway and eventually ramp them off the road. He drove away and was only caught cause a witness follow him and called the police.

Living in an apartment complex and experiencing the same thing. The neighborhood kids playing ding dong ditch with my door. It really pisses me off. I feel for this guy too, sometimes you have to be in this situation to understand. If you are someone that value peace, it’s easy to snap. These boys brought this upon themselves. Though I felt he went a bit too far, but all the more reason you shouldn’t be eff’n with people. There’s only so much one can take. This probably was going on for a while for him to get to this point. Sad he threw away his life by making such spilt decision.

How did they ALLOW that? Really think. Teenaged friends got in a car for a night out and decided to do this. You think they told their parents that they were going to do that and asked for permission? Of course not. The parents are not defending that. Of course that prank stuff is wrong and a bad thing, but there's no comparison between pranking by pressing a doorbell and literally running people off the road, killing them. The two things do not weigh up together.
