I used to gave a tough time catching those gar in Texas. I could never get them to get the hook in there mouth, used to see them cruising all the time.
Yeah it took me a while to figure out the strategy. I would let them run with the minnow until I knew they shallowed. I had to put on a steel leader to stop them from breaking me off
@@LZFishing check this out, take a small jig head like we use for perch and put a piece of nylon rope on it then melt. You separate the back end of the rope apart and swim it through the water like a bait fish. There teeth get stuck in it, works everytime
Looked like a fun day. Never had much luck back there with artificials. There's a local kid that absolutely kills it back there catching big bass on artificials. I think it's just a matter of putting your time in. Most people I talk to you that catch stuff back there do exactly as you did and use live bait or catch bluegill and throw them on
Yeah, people slay it back in there with time. My buddy caught a 6 pound bass in the same spot I lost the giant one the next day. Gonna give it some more shots in July
You straight up yeeted that first bass lmaooo 😂😂😂😂
He went for an awesome ride🛩
nice bowfin! that speckle trout catch caught me off guard lol 😂

I’ve tried that before on houndfish (the bigger saltwater gar type fish) and it slays. I’ll definitely use it next time for smaller gar
