ALE works for the military, and MARS, because they use military frequencies that are specifically designated as ALE node channels. It works well because they are not competing for airtime with other users. The radios, such as the AN PRC-160 are fully automatic, the operator doesn't have to look through the Link Quality tables to determine what channel to use to make a contact. They are dummy proof. So dummy proof in fact, that the Army is going back to teaching the basics of HF propagation so operators can make intelligent choices when the automated stuff isn't available or, craps the bed. Yes, ALE has a purpose, and as the saying goes, "if the shoe fits, wear it."
@@BobBob-il2ku not unless you want trouble with the D.O.D and Homeland Security. The frequencies are considered classified information and the channels are shared in encrypted documents. All data transmissions are encrypted. My advice, don't use them even if you somehow find out the frequencies.
