Sika has an admirable attitude toward exploring crafts. She has an idea of what she wants to do, she explores her options, and she doesn't appear to let it discourage her when it doesn't work out how she wanted. Instead, Sika just keeps going and tries again, and that's awesome. Also, yeah, I've touched things in the oven with bare hands >.
Use dried flowers. Check out Artsy Madwoman she uses dried flowers in resin, and has a ton of tips on how to dry flowers. The bubbles make it look like water.
So tip, dry the plants first. The heat of the resin curing cooks the plant material, that's why the color changed in the knife project. It's also very likely to rot in the resin over time. Because things need moisture more then air, to rot. I also really like the dome idea, but it's also another thing that would be better (for long term) to used dried or fake plants.
Jackie, I did something arguably dumber than trying to take something out of the oven with my bare hands. Took the baking sheet out using oven mitts, took the oven mitts off, picked up the baking sheet to move it. Blisters galore.
I loved over the corse of time how sika has really developed a sorta love for crafting and doing things with Jackie it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside
Jackie a trick you can do with UV resin is to coat the inside of the mold like you did with the hallow chocolate then put stuff inside. another thing is that stuff like moss traps a lot of air with it so its better to coat it with something to stop the air trying to escape through the resin.
Sika idea with the terrarium was good one thing to know when using flowers like that in resin is that if they're not dried completly (or otherwise preserved) beforehand long term they will eventually rot. Covered in resin you won't really be bothered by it and no mold can spread but it's god to remember. If you wanna try something with flowers again there are ways to dry them kinda fast (for drying flowers atleast) in an oven you can look up. Just don't use a microwave it can cause a fire!

Even the dried ones do eventually I have found. Maybe you can’t expect it to last forever but I have jewelry I bought a year ago that’s starting to turn brown. I think the sun could be a factor too.
@@Desiree216 resin discolours in sunlight! It'll eventually yellow if not stored right. Flowers won't if they are dried properly and there's no air or moisture.
The greenery in the terrarium will end up wilting, unfortunately. You need to completely dehydrate any foliage being put into an enclosure. You can put the contents in silica gel for approximately 3 days up to 1 week depending how big the items are to be dessicated. Just an fyi going forward, loves.
@@Mikey-kw1vi true! I thought of silica gel because I always save those wee packets you get in practically everything to dry out foliage haha! But salt works too!

Re: the floating on Sika's project, my guess is that there's still a lot of air in her glass ball, and that's why it's floating -- the air makes it a lot less dense than the resin. It was fine when it was glued (resined) to the bark layer, which was more or less stuck to the bottom, but when she made the liquid resin go under the bark layer, that meant the bark layer was loose and free to float, with the light glass ball bouying it up through the liquid.
I love resin crafts. I just started using resin in the last year and a half, due to the pandemic and I've learned so much and I'm still learning. It's always very entertaining watching you two do your projects 😆. A part 2 is a definite must as I know you have learned from your mistakes.😊 So I have a few tips for you guys. #1 warming your resin a little can help to get rid of bubbles. #2 always use dried plant life. There are a few way to dry flowers etc. You can pick them and wait a couple of weeks to let them dry on their own, you can microwave them to dry them out. ( It takes about a minute or two depending on the type of flower) or use the oven. There is also a mixture you can buy (I believe it's silica) that will dry out plants in a few days. I learned all these techniques on UA-cam. Sorry I don't remember all the names of the people I watched🤦🏾♀️ but there are so so many. I hope this helps. 😊 Love you guys❤️❤️
I looked up the silica sand & it was like $30. Then I remembered I still had a bag of crystal kitty litter from my bad decision to try using that as the only litter. It's silica too. Just a different kind. But I tried it out & got some nicely dried leaves. The only potential problem is that the crystals are kind of large. I'm thinking about using my under $8 food processor to grind them down. Or maybe buying a cheap coffee grinder. But considering that the cheap crystal litter such Mimi's is only about $5-6 a bag. Compared to $30+ for silica sand. It would be worth it even if I eventually killed the mini food processor or coffee grinder. Also maybe not use those for food ever again. I'm thinking I'll just buy a bouquet of mixed flowers to try drying nicely. Although now that I think about it I wonder if the simple unscented clay litter I went back to using would also dry flowers. Oh there's also a $20 drying flower press that goes in the microwave you can get too. Makes it so you have dried flowers to use in a short amount of time.
A couple years ago I discovered Jackie's resin videos and I knew I wanted to try resin. Fast forward and now I have an Etsy shop with resin pieces. Jackie even inspired my shop name, Nerdy Ghoul. Anyway, a quick tip. When you have a mold that is deeper and harder to get out, pour a little isopropyl alcohol in the mold. Massage it around and piece will come right out🤓
Also, I think the glass dome is extra reflective because it is filled with air. It would have “disappeared” more if it was filled with resin (but that would have defeated the purpose of having the globe/dome in the first place), or if it was a dome made of the same resin that it is encased in. It would have still looked like an air bubble, but it would have blended in more (I think).
Definitely! While the light doesn't refract at the border between the resin and the dome, it still refracts at the border between the dome and the air inside.
Everytime I watch you and Sika y'all always make me smile, even when I'm going through some things, especially right now, y'all always make me smile :)❤️
The next time that you add a dome, fill the space inside with resin too. The air inside is what is messing up the glass dome bit, most likely, not the glass dome itself.
Jackie and Sika, I hope you see this message. I just want to say I love your videos I have been supporting you since the beginning, and would really appreciate it ( by appreciate I mean I would go crazy if you did)if you would please heart one of my comments. I love our channel but I have to go now, bye!😊
I deffo recommend drying your flowers before putting them in resin. Artsy Madwoman here on youtube has some excellent tutorials on prepping flowers for resin. They will keep their colours better if dried and won't go brown and gross XD you can get a flower press that lets you dry them in the microwave or you can use silica gel crystals.
These turned out looking very cool! Would love to see a rendition using what you've learned to improve on the project! Sika's idea of a space theme sounds amazing!
You need to fully dry out the flowers before putting them in resin or else you'll get rotting. there are a few tutorials on how to keep the color when drying out flowers and such for resin art.
What a great crafting session guys, would love to see a part two or more like this. Sika has such a creative side to her, I love how she crafts outside the square. Jackie it is so goo to see you working with clay again, the fish was really good. Awesome video guys.🤩🤩🤩🤣
Tips: Try having a heat gun blowing on the resin while you mix it. If possible, let it sit for 10 minutes before pouring to let the bubbles rise. But it would be awesome if vacuum chambers could be a crafting staple!
Also, pressure pots are less messy than vacuum chambers, though they take longer. I guess it depends on which way you wanna go... With a vacuum chamber, it takes less time to get the bubbles out, but if you have too much resin in the mold or container you put in the chamber, it'll overflow and cause a big ol' mess. The pressure pot squeezes the air bubbles so tiny you can't see them anymore with the naked eye, making your resin crystal clear, but you leave your projects in the pot, pressurized, for however long it takes the resin to cure. Rybonator here on UA-cam mainly does resin dice, but his tutorials are awesome, and he shows the differences between using vacuum chambers and pressure pots, and also how to modify a paint spraying pot into a pressure pot.
@@geminidragon33 oh wow thank you for more information on them! I use pressure pots because I couldn’t find the vacuum and found them cheaper. I also love that it probably won’t overflow, that’s always a mess.
I get silica on Amazon it's just like a sand kinda texture but you put your flowers in it and it will dry them out with the color still intact it takes about three or four days or there is another option you can get a kit that will let you dry them in the microwave but I found this option to make them burn sometimes
@@AfallinAngel i haven't had them burn but the beads in the pack give the petals and leaves a weird, golf ball, pited texture. I've resorted to just laying them in a windowsil with lots of sun and hanging my roses upside down in a closet for weeks.
I put this in the last resin flower video, it's best to somewhat dry the flowers then spray them with hair spray to keep them from turning brown, learned it from watching Peter brown where he did a bunch of experiments
🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂 EVERYBODY has those idiot moments. I have watched some of the smartest people I know, do some of the DUMBEST things ever! Nobody gets away clean! 😂🤣😂🤣❤
I was making cupcakes a couple days ago and went to get the rising stuff to make it fluffy.
Part 2 is a MUST! Loving it!
Part two part two part two!! This was so fun and I love seeing both of your thought processes!
So cute love them, the bubbles make like a kind of water effect that looks pretty cool 👌 i cant wait for part 2
The flowers and plants rot because they aren't dried.
Came here to say this!
Exactly, I thought they will educate themselves after the last project.. Or at least read comments
I get silica on Amazon it's just like a sand kinda texture but you put your flowers in it and it will dry them out with the color still intact it takes about three or four days or there is another option you can get a kit that will let you dry them in the microwave but I found this option to make them burn sometimes
Was just gonna say that!
@@AfallinAngel i haven't had them burn but the beads in the pack give the petals and leaves a weird, golf ball, pited texture. I've resorted to just laying them in a windowsil with lots of sun and hanging my roses upside down in a closet for weeks.
You need to use dried plants in order to avoid the plants rotting on you.
En tant que québécoise, j'apprécie la représentation, merci Sika
I put this in the last resin flower video, it's best to somewhat dry the flowers then spray them with hair spray to keep them from turning brown, learned it from watching Peter brown where he did a bunch of experiments
My son once came home from school with a resin project, and said it was made of uvulas..boy, that was confusing..
Edit: Jackie - I'm supervising 😆😆😆😆😆
Yes, part two DEFINITELY and make it
✨G A L A X Y✨ just like Sika’s said.
Sika is my spirit animal
There is always chaos with sika
Yep 😂
Chaos & slight panic 😂
Even if they didnt turn out to your visions- they came absolutely beautiful! Im so impressed, you guys are so creative!
Yeeeessss! Part two is needed, because these are awesome, but you guys deserve better ones
My exhusband who has a PHD in particle physics tried to take a hot pan of cookies out of the oven without wearing an oven mitt.
🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂 EVERYBODY has those idiot moments. I have watched some of the smartest people I know, do some of the DUMBEST things ever!
Nobody gets away clean! 😂🤣😂🤣❤
I have no idea what that supposed to do with the video but OK
When are we going to see a custom Funko Pop Figure making?
Best duo everrrrrrrrr!!!!
Ikr
These are so cute! You can sand out the bubbles and polish or paint resin over the outside to make them look extra fancy.
Why are these two so adorable?
Sika: rip fishy…
Me: IM GETTING RIPPED TONIGHT R.I.P THAT fishy… :)
I was making cupcakes a couple days ago and went to get the rising stuff to make it fluffy. So we have it in a bag next to the cornmeal and it’s the same company so I wasn’t thinking and accidentally put cornmeal in my cupcakes. Didn’t notice until my grandma pointed it out. I basically made cornbread cake 😂
Was it still edible?
Sika would have better luck with dried flowers! Fresh flowers don’t age well in resin!
I like watching after work as it helps relax me and sometimes I fall asleep watching.
Would absolutely love to see a part 2, the galaxy theme sounds like a brilliant idea!
Someone needs to craft Jackie a set of oven mitts that look like "BEAR" hands (or paws)
You guys really need to start wearing PPE in your resin episodes. You have a pretty big following now, at least address the fact that PPE should always be worn when working with resin :(
Let's be honest.
Just admit it.
Jackie is our savior during quarantine
you always make me happy and you keep reminding me of my sister and you even make me happy when I'm the saddest or even any emotion
Seeing them outside made me smile, I love the vibes 😌
U just saved the day Jackie 😂😂😂😂
Sika: you're not interested, you're skeptical!
Me: ooooooo got some skeptical cash going on here!! 💲💲
Luv u Jackie and Sika ❤️ This looks so cool I’m about to watch it. I’m sooooo exited for my kit to come!!!😎 #Nerdeficationsquad Btw I hope I spelt that right😜
I'm so excited to see what you make with the kit!!
@@nerdecrafter Thanks soo much for replying
@@nerdecrafter Just wondering is the kit in Canadian dollars or usd?
You guys always make me smile thank you for helping me through these hard times
I'll be able to get the kit! I'm so excited and so proud of you jackie!!
