Why u guys were so uncomfortable talking about sanitary pads....the movie was all about it ...providing cheapest sanitory pad to women who can not afford the fancy costlier ones....

The film is based on "The Sanitary Man of Sacred Land", a short story from Twinkle Khanna's book, The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad, which is inspired from the life of Arunachalam Muruganantham, a Tamil Nadu-based social activist who revolutionized the concept of menstrual hygiene in rural India by creating a low-cost sanitary pads.
Sadly, there are still some places in India where women can not afford ( in some cases they even know about the product) sanitary pads and uses unhygienic ways as a substitute.
Not surprisingly, it's sadly!

The whole family needs to watch this movie. I'm looking at you, Nathan. Women around the world die from unsanitary means of dealing with a very natural event through which all of us received our lives, our birth.
In the beginning he says he never studied at IIT (Indian Institute of Technology), but now IIT study's him. Which is true. In his search for a way to make sanitary pads affordable to the poorest of women he had to invent his own machines and methods which would provide the means and Universities around the world are studying how an under-educated untrained man was able to do what they couldn't.
Poor women were using whatever means necessary, from old rags to even grass and leaves. There are now shops all over the world in poor countries in Asia and Africa where the poor women themselves own the shops and machines and use the machines to make pads and affordably sell them to other women. He has refused to sell the machines to large corporations and governments. He could have become very wealthy, instead he chose to empower poor women and to keep the machines and pads cheap enough for the poor.
He now shares the stage with the likes of Bill and Malinda Gates at speaking events worldwide.
I thought only people in India were ashamed of talking about sanitary pads , I guess it's a problem in the US too. U should watch a video that, Dr Jordan Peterson did regarding this Padman guy. It is very important to realise how bad it could be tonbe ashamed to talk about sanitary pads....

Akshay Kumar’s movie Padman is a biopic on Arunachalam Muruganantham, a social entrepreneur from Coimbatore. He is the man who devised low cost sanitary pads for women in rural areas villages. Akshay Kumar plays the titular role in the movie Padman.

We don't blame you Nathan, it's easy to talk about menstruation with your wife but not with your sister or your daughter. It's always been a taboo subject. Even women don't wanna talk about it if they can avoid it. In the countryside women would rather stay quiet about it and stay in unsanitary conditions during their period than go out and buy sanitary pads in public. This mentality is what the movie's trying to combat. Rachel's laugh is really contagious though😂.
menstrual cycle in India is treated as Taboo. Women r not allowed to go in kitchen or cook food and many more routine things.
Poor women's in villages cannot afford the expensive pads , so he created a cheap pad so that every women can buy those rather than using the unhygienic cloths.
Padman is a real person from South India

Trust me this movie has very emotional movie .. twist and turns are there. He faced struggle & social issue still he didn't gave up. Only one or 2 scenes will make you uncomfortable, otherwise the movie has a fantastic story to tell. I can watch this movie again and again
