I think with Frank realising that he has messed up big time with Annalise, he wanted to go away but then there's Laurel, so he came clean with her, and told her he love her, I think it was her rejection that finally drove him away from them. Laurel kept pestering him about telling her the truth and wanting to know the real him but when he came clean, she suddenly became disgusted with him. Hell, I'd go away if I was Frank too.
