I would love to buy this ORION Resolux 7x50, but unfortunately it is no longer available in Europe...😭

Its a generic 7x50 as explained in the video and is available under many names TS optics, Bresser, explore scientific etc...if it looks like the Orion its the Orion. APM do the more up-to-date MS ED variant. Oberwerk do a 10x50 and 15x70 BA8 variant which will come QC checked.

    Dear Mr Lytle,
    Thanks for this video.👌
...Do you perhaps also have an opinion about the Steiner MM10x50 porro?
I'm saving up for the Fujinon FMTR 10x50, but always wondered how the Steiner MM1050 would fare against it, since it's more compact and weighs less but so far I haven't been able to find a good test on YT.

Thank you for responding with such an interesting and relevant question.
I have looked through only one MM10x50. That was a used unit that had seen service with the police. I was not impressed with the view and passed on buying it from the gentleman who brought it to me.
I really was thinking of buying the Fujinon 10x50 until my experience with the 7x50. Still, I can't honestly report that I have looked through a "good" new built example of either the Fuji or the Steiner in 10x50.
I do want to contribute two points. First,
I trust the Fuji body to handle abuse better, if any is to be encountered.
      Second,
I would chose the binocular that can be most easily serviced and aligned by myself if worse comes to worst. I prefer eccentric rings so I would lean toward the Fuji.
The sharpness of the 7x50 that I tested was the best that I have encountered. I just didn't think that it measured up in other areas and it didn't seriously outperform the Orion Resolux. My experience with the Steiner ShadowQuest was extremely positive at night and only slightly frustrating in the daylight. The optical quality was there in the end but it's a plastic binocular.
If weight isn't a critical issue, I would go for the fmtr-sx.
I wish I could have been of better help to you by having true experience with both of the 10x50s you are interested in but I hope that I have given you some constructive points to consider.
Thank you for giving me a shot at your question and new ideas for future reviews.

Thank you very much for your fast, kind and detailed response.
You have already been a tremendous help with your critical assessment of various binoculars.

I'm currently thinking of buying either Steiner Night Hunter 8x56 vs Orion Resolux 7x50.
*Considerations for the Steiner vs Orion:*
8 degree FOV vs Orion 7.5,
25% more light gathering capacity in Steiner 56mm vs. Orion
8 magnification (which makes the 8 degree FOV even more amazing feat) vs 7 for Orion
    *Considerations against Steiner:*
Only price. I can get 4 or even 5 Resolux for 1 Steiner. While I can afford it, if the advantage is marginal, then justification is not there.

The standout feature of the Steiner, for astronomy, is that it has given me no ghost images at all in dark conditions. The Orion displays better contrast, showing darker skies behind a slightly more defined Jupiter and it's moons. But, it unfortunately does have internal reflections. At the right angle I see multiple images of light sources. The Steiner brings in fainter stars against a not-so-dark sky with no false images.
And, the Steiner is easier to hold up to your eyes over prolonged periods.

I am sorry to tell you that I have had no experience with the Zeiss 10x56 but I would certainly like the opportunity. As for absolute sharpness, I wouldn't hesitate to invest in a top of the line Fujinon.
Since I discovered the problem with the eyepiece of my 10x50 FMT-SX and resolved it, it has become the absolute sharpest binocular in my possession.
No roof prism binocular that I have put to my eyes has noticeably surpassed it. If you do decide to go with the Zeiss then I invite you to tell us all what you think of it. I would be most interested and thankful.

I can agree that different people have different preferences. Some may truly enjoy the sense of being "in the picture" which is often experienced when field curvature is prominent.
However, field curvature is not a relic of effective field flatteners, which is what the Fujinon FMTR-SX commands big money for. If a person is willing to spend $700 USD or more for a flat field, it is my opinion that he or she should get it. The Fujinon was not performing as advertised - it did not measure up to the descriptions given it from numerous reviews - a Chinese copy was succeeding in truly flattening the field where the Fujinon was failing.
Yes, there are certainly people who would prefer the overall view of the Fujinon. But, they could get a similar view at less cost by buying a Fuji without field flattening lenses.
This is the subjective opinion of the man with close to perfect eyesight, because he wears glasses.
Anyway, your basic point is acknowledged. Not everyone prefers a flat field.
      Thank you for commenting.
