Would really love to see you guys test this out on more difficult obstacles. All the stuff you went through could be navigated easily with a stock jeep (or one with a mild lift and decent tires).
I really love seeing another dj5 jeep out there. I daily drive one and have a rear seat for passengers. This is an awesome jeep. I hope this inspires more people to put these back on the road. There is a guy in Boaz Alabama that has any part you need from fenders to stock fuel pumps. Postal jeep parts is the new of the company
I see all the comments below and I understand some critiques - I'd have used a wiring harness bulkhead quick connect pass-through personally - but I've never myself built a complete 4-link suspension from scratch. These guys show and thinking are not necessarily to my preferences a lot of the time but they have a job to do an entertaining show using their obviously serious skillset and talents. Should they have painted the fresh cuts, grinds, and etc? Yep. Grommet the wiring? Yep. Chosen something other than self tappers? Probably - but they have deadlines and other items you and I have no clue exist. They teach us a lot (simple bending jig made of bolts on tabletop, room for tubing flex by bending around a tube, and that it needs to have flex room built in your brake lines to prevent cracking) give lots of ideas (alternate mounting of cooler locations and etc) and show how to fab some stuff. Just like This Old House showed ideas on home building and remodeling for decades without being a "how to" show, or a fully DIY show- this is similar to inspire you to grow your skillset with ideas as inspiration. Personally - I'd have built an internal tube frame and hung the gas tank from it and cooler also with a false floor or custom organizer to use the back for carrying stuff along with you, slightly more aggressive tires, switched to a LH drive, and used a different carb. Probably added slider tubes on the side (with the requisite steps - I'm getting old), run a remote radiator fill tank, exhaust run out the back with the muffler very near the end, some sort of door or half door, and had grab bars on the roll cage. But they are obviously talented they built a pretty seriously capable machine, and can make changes and upgrades as they (and we) learn more and see additional changes and needs. They can't show each step, build/finish everything perfectly or these projects would last many months and you (and I) would lose interest in certain ones because not everyone is looking to go rock crawling, mudding, cruising, drag racing, road racing, or what have you. My fear for myself is that I will get hyper-critical to the point of chasing cars down the road shouting "Get off my lawn" from our viral induced social regression leading me to become a keyboard warrior extraordinaires - with no room for our differences. Peace, learning/growth, and prosperity to all of you in the future.
I Had a 1975 DJ5~ 6 Cylinder, which I bought for $500.°° I was able to replace the wheels with Suzuki samurai rims and the extra tire mount, times were hard and it made a good plumbing truck, I replaced the front and rear bumpers w/the rear having a trailer receiver and I also installed a latter rack from bumper to bumper, it was good for hauling all my tools, latter's Pipes, I even hauled A/C's and Heaters on the roof we even used it to get into the arrollos to bring out sand and bed rock when we were building our house, it lasted me about 7 Years it was very reliable.
Old girl needs some rock sliders and maybe a bit of body armor. Didn't think this thing would turn out as good as it did, honestly. Well done! Helluva cool toy!
why paint and coat everything and then mount the shifter and other stuff? That leaves the drilled holes and slots unprotected which can cause rust/oxidation. Everything else, nice job guys
rock guards, skid plates, and that exhaust needs to get redone and this jeep to me would be fully done. 50 series FM out farther back so that the pipe doesn't empty right into the cab. very nice job on this guys I like it.
I have the same style and color Covercraft seat covers on my 1999 F-150. I think this project did not do enough to show just how good they actually look, especially with that bit of red showing underneath from the old seats. That look ruins it for me. It would have been nice if that was addressed. It was very difficult for me to finally commit to purchasing these covers as it take two months to ship from the time of order and they make a major dent in your wallet. Once installed, their redeeming quality is that they look so good and fit so well.
I like watching trucks when steacy David was host of that show and few truck projects he needed to got out to Memphis equipment for there parts and there is a few more military truck dealers that sell parts and books as well for them
Goo0d story, but as a Mailman, I was never allowed to call "junk mail" junk mail because it could offend junk mail mailers. Like they were going to find someone else to deliver their junk! Good use of an old mail truck.
I have been following the build and I love it. I want to make one now too! How much HP does junkmail have on that old iron duke? I would love to see you guys get max HP out of it and how.
What... If your using an RH32 Transmission than you had to convert it to manual shift since that is a computer controlled automatic. How did you do that ????? Plus with cable shifters you don't have to worry about body or frame flex differences.
Too much time and money to clean those seat mounting brackets and spend oh, $1.99 for a rattle-can paint job eh? And I agree on the roll-bar... it's not a place to grab. Weld on some hand grab rails.
What were you thinking, to put so much money into a piece oof junk to begin with? Sure, it's light, but so is the build quality in these junkyard specials.
With some -- a few? -- MORE modifications, you could put other bodies on this. I'd try a 1/2 ton Chevy van body (short). This is like the best 4-by build EVER! This little guy looks like so much fun! And i love, LOVE straight 6s. Torquey little buggers (TLBs). Of course, i would air-ride it, but these days, i've found that i want to air-ride almost EVERYTHING! C-notches are a wonderful thing (tub the wheel wells!). This would pull a 16 foot toy hauler, easily. It's not fast, but when i'm cruisin', who cares? That 6 would make gas mileage MUCH better too, even when pulling. Also, the 1/2 ton van would be wide enough to cover the wheels, i.e. street legal (maybe with some flares, i.e. mud/debris protection).i NEED a 4by 1/2 ton Chevy van!!!,..and the chassis/suspension system of Junk Mail to put under it,...with a straight 6. 😃 $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Keep your hands off of the roll cage! A sudden roll over can mean losing you fingers or a crushed hand, even possibly being trapped in the vehicle! Use your heads guys!! (Not meaning that literally!)
Wow, that little Jeep took those trails like nothing. I want it.
I'm definatly a go fast guy, but this looks hella fun! The rig looks great, probably one of your best projects so far imo.
Would really love to see you guys test this out on more difficult obstacles. All the stuff you went through could be navigated easily with a stock jeep (or one with a mild lift and decent tires).

May want to put a little padding on that cage. Looks, sounds & performs awesome 😎
And some grab straps. If it tips and rolls, don't want to get pinched between the bars and the sheet metal.

Robin Barrow --> So well stated!
If I built this, I would have kept the Sliding Doors, or had some Removable Canvas Doors made for Street use...
SWEET BUILD Y'ALL!
That’s such a cool Jeep, I dig the right hand drive since it was a mail truck. Great job building a fun trail rig out of it! Much love from Texas.
Love this build
I agree Richard!
Turned out rad. Looks like one hell of a fun toy. Well done.
This was a great build, congratulations on a million subs.

Nice to see the finished product!
Fantastic job guys!
That thing is badass! You guys have given me a few ideas for the suspension on my YJ, I think I will do a 4 link and ditch the leaf springs.
Enjoyed................... 👍👍👍👍
I do love that exhaust tone.
Said nobody.
You people are crazy amazing intelligent engineers 👍👍👍🌿🌿🌸🌸⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️loved your presentation
Gnarly rebuild guys...that's a Rubicon +++ upgrade for sure 😉
EVERYTHING is finished.....ok let's see if we have any clearance issues. LOL.
Lots of rookie mistakes on this build.
They will learn. Hopfully.
I wish there had been a DJ vehicle with 4 wheel drive when I delivered mail in the snow.
No froggies were harmed in the filming of this video.😆👍❤😎
Old girl needs some rock sliders and maybe a bit of body armor. Didn't think this thing would turn out as good as it did, honestly. Well done! Helluva cool toy!
One issue i have is where the trans cooler was mounted, mud will be a problem for that. But that is an awesome jeep
Good job guys and the proof was on the trail!
Key here is always get everything painted looking good before you finish fabricating
That’s a cool build bringing the Mail !!!!
Awesome build!
Funny thing is in Houston county Tn they had a lifted mail truck to go through the low water bridges in the deep woods
Gotta love simple!
You at least used washers on the brake hoses. Lol just teasing', good job guys!
Stunning !!!!
Nice like the enthusiasm and the whole experience
Outstanding achievement boys 😎
Following the entire build series and all I could think after those shocks got installed was mount the damn reservoir.
I love how the link rod magically appeared overnight 😁
thanks for the information mate
Not bad for a upgraded old postal jeep shell
why paint and coat everything and then mount the shifter and other stuff? That leaves the drilled holes and slots unprotected which can cause rust/oxidation. Everything else, nice job guys
Awesome build. Is there any bump steer associated with 4 links since the gear box is mounted to the chassis?
I have been considering those tires for a while. They look like they handled the trails well.
Nice work done I love it
rock guards, skid plates, and that exhaust needs to get redone and this jeep to me would be fully done. 50 series FM out farther back so that the pipe doesn't empty right into the cab. very nice job on this guys I like it.
0:18 they put the grommet on. That's for all of you complainers last episode. They don't show everything they do on the build during an episode.
I remember a lot of people sure pointed that out. Figured it was going on eventually.
Well......they should
Maybe add some roll bar padding, additional (safer) places to hang on, and some 4 point harnesses... Otherwise a cool build.
I mean I'm not a fan of offroading that much, but this is a very cool build
Support the RPM act !
Nice video And cool

I need to get a postal Jimny 😊👍
Goo0d story, but as a Mailman, I was never allowed to call "junk mail" junk mail because it could offend junk mail mailers. Like they were going to find someone else to deliver their junk! Good use of an old mail truck.
Rupert Herzog --> Good one!
Drop tire air pressure down to about 5 psi next time and enjoy many benefits
15:00 what's the idea of welding it ? Wouldn't bolts be more useful there ?
Молодцы!!! крутой проект!!!👍
I have been following the build and I love it. I want to make one now too!
How much HP does junkmail have on that old iron duke? I would love to see you guys get max HP out of it and how.
About 80 - 90
*_Did anyone notice on the trail they were being stalked by a lime green tree monster lol 😆_*
Should you have nets on those door opening?
What... If your using an RH32 Transmission than you had to convert it to manual shift since that is a computer controlled automatic. How did you do that ?????
Plus with cable shifters you don't have to worry about body or frame flex differences.
You should use lock washers.
Still used self tapping screws on the gas tank
For your next build, how about a Toyota Tacoma with Portal axles.
Man you guys are making me want to get another dj5
track bar!
Needs some harnesses!!
I like the Postal Jeep transformation but you need to reduce the muffler noise.
Too much time and money to clean those seat mounting brackets and spend oh, $1.99 for a rattle-can paint job eh? And I agree on the roll-bar... it's not a place to grab. Weld on some hand grab rails.
7:24 he did. They just didn't show. You can see here they are black painted.
But much more impressive is how the link rod grows overnight. Magic 🤣
You guy's need to invest in more flat washers and some stover nuts so parts don't bail out.
What were you thinking, to put so much money into a piece oof junk to begin with? Sure, it's light, but so is the build quality in these junkyard specials.
Taller tires would do great on this setup.. run them 40's
Semua video dichannel ini keren. ❤❤❤
Wat brand are the wheels?
Maybe add some "US SLAIL" decals made for this build... 🤔
What happend to the doors?
How much did you spend on JunkMail in total?
With some -- a few? -- MORE modifications, you could put other bodies on this. I'd try a 1/2 ton Chevy van body (short).

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
looks like you could have lower the tire pressure some more.
Why it zound like it has a bad exhaust leqk? & for 20k it should do well & walk thru that stuff
It didn't look like you aired down for the trail
That engine sounds like a beast!
Anyone know what they stretched the wheelbase to be?
I guess the door never made it.
Hi , what does Carcass mean ?
Keep your hands off of the roll cage! A sudden roll over can mean losing you fingers or a crushed hand, even possibly being trapped in the vehicle! Use your heads guys!! (Not meaning that literally!)
Super
Yeah…….Carhartt seat covers. You could have bought new seats cheaper than those covers
They mention the name and showcase them, then they get them for free.
Anyone else notice that they didn't use locking nuts , loctite or lock washers on anything?
Didnt he put thread locker on the u joint
@@CRAPO2011 I noticed that later. No locking hardware on the master cylinder is kind of sketch, the shifter is just gonna rattle loose...
@@blakeschluchter you know more techi0nica details than I, my gripe is with how crappy the paint looks Bosher should have helped them lol
No bench bleed either
Does it bother anyone else that they don't use washers on any of those bolts?
Lower tyre pressures…101
👍
Félicitation
That gearing seems like it’s stupid low. That engine is screaming.
didn't look low enough to me, and those coilovers were overkill for how little flex this setup has...
Giveaway for Postal workers who kept the mail moving during pandemic????
Giveaway for politicians who kept the economy closed during the pandemic???? :-)
Torque wrench? Who knows it?
Cut a little bit more steps than I'd like from the footage.
from here it looks like the rear driveshaft is to long.
I thought so to
Full rebuild, uses rusted ass seat brackets. Come on guys you couldn’t at least spray pain them shits?
I don't understand about the steering?!)
Why the automatic cranny? jc Damn youngins don't know how to drive a stick?
Why add one? Lots of guys wheel with an auto, I guess driving a stick is the only skill you have lol
Takes more concentration to drive with a stick especially off road. An auto is for lazy people.
I know that it may be "Stupid/Sacrilegious" but, how about a 4×4 Lifted Sedan/Car Build?...
you should really keep those hands off the roll cage. just sayin'.
