Seal Wounded By Fishing Line

- While regular rescue patrols at the seal colonies at Pelican Point and Cape Cross enable us to find entangled animals before they are injured, the more remote seal colonies in other areas of Namibia are not so lucky. One tiny loop of recreational fishing line was enough to suffocate this gorgeous and otherwise healthy animal. While we are proud of our rescues, we do not see any significant changes to the underlying issue.

Antoine said, "Here, here, here...!" and the seal ran right into the net! Thanks, team!👏
Tony, AKA, The Seal Whisperer.😊❤🦭
🙂👍
If you cannot pick up a piece of plastic or trash on a beach - please donate so OCN can continue to save these beautiful creatures
Not a fan of sea lions.
They are Cape fur seals (Arctocephalus pusillus pusillus). We call them 'seals' for short.
It's so sad to see an animal suffer especially when it's preventable and caused by selfish and careless human behaviour. Thank you OCN for demonstrating the good side of humanity.
What amazing rescues you guys do. The Sea Shepherds are also working hard all round the UK coast, diving for the discarded fishing nets and releasing any creatures that have been caught up in the nets. Such brave people, well done to you all. You are all HEROES. xxx
Sea Shepherd’s…I like that! Great slogan for merch sales.🤗
Thank you men for saving his life! You men are angels!
Our efforts are just a drop in the bucket compared to the millions of tonnes of trash entering the world's oceans every year.
We are unfortunately not solving the problem, but only treating the symptoms of the plastic crisis with our rescues. These videos aim to show the consequences of this pollution and create a change to tackle its roots - namely our addiction to single-use plastics, the lack of law enforcement at sea, and the shortcomings of the recycling industry.
Love to see all those chubby healthy pups!😍
These baby pups will go through their early life with seal footprints on their backs, fortunately they roll with the punches. The one you rescued
was borderline, but you got to him in time. So beautiful watching the huge flock of birds flying in the air over the seals. Nature at it finest.
Thank you for the rescue.
Dziękujemy za wszystko co robicie🦭🦭🦭🦭🦭🦭🦭🦭❤🇵🇱
👍
Heal fast and completely young girl. Sorry for the pain you have suffered. Thank to team OCN for rescuing you from your entanglement. ❤❤❤
🙂👍
We notice how well behaved they are getting: even turning around and going to you! Great save OCN-TEAM
Thank you my heroes for saving him ❤️ greetings to all 😊🙋🏼
👍
🥰That's a lot of cute baby seals! The poor juvenile was in dire need of your help. Thank you for saving his life!✂️💕🦭
All those cute babies! Glad OCN rescued that youngster before it got a whole lot worse.
How lovely to see all those little puppies heading to the sea, glad you managed to spot the wounded seal in time. What kind of birds flew over? Nice to see. Thankyou OCN. 😥💝🏴
I do not remember exactly, but they look like gulls.
👍
Poor little thing! So many adorable pups! Thanks guys!❤❤❤❤❤
🙂👍
A sea of pups, so sweet!!
“You are not a puppy anymore” I thought that they were all “puppies” to Tony- except perhaps the Dock Boys and some of the Monday morning bulls 😅. Without that painful line digging into his shoulders while swimming this Juvie should be able to catch much more fish for dinner. Well done gentlemen (including Alan L)🦭🌊💙
Peace and love to everyone from the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State.🦭🙏❤️🇺🇲🇳🇦
Thank you👏👏💙💙
When you train them from birth, they learn to go right in the net! 😂😂😂 Team OCN❣️
💗💗 Thank You OCN 💗💗
🙂👍
Thanks Guys

Thank you for today's puppy fest! May they all grow big and strong and free from entanglements 🙏
🙂👍
Ty OCN Team!!!! Tyfs God bless you
That seal was coming to Tony for help, it looked like! He dove straight into the net. Very well-behaved to get that horrible thing out of him. I think he's been watching OCN videos.
🙂👍
Dang one is on the back of the truck and two on either side. This is some serious buisness from OCN.
A seal rescue tactical team!
😁
Another well behaved, chubby and sweet patient!
🙂👍
Congratulations on reaching US $10,000 on your fundraiser!
Tony is training the pups to run right into his net 😂😂😂
He heard you yell HERE, like he knew you’d save him. Oh my heart.
All of you are Amazing. Thank You so much ❤❤😊
TEARS OF JOY!!! Your love and compassion got us to the MAGIC 10K number in donations. In 1970 I participated in the original Earth Day. It seems inconceivable that in the last 54 years people, politicians, and corporations are still denying the damage we do to our planet and all of the living things upon it. Your small contribution will help rectify that denial. SAVE ONE SEAL, SAVE THE PLANET. OCN subs are SELFLESS!!! OCN heroes are LEGENDS!!! Thank you for your generosity. Love and hugs x10,000 from me in New Mexico USA
Thank you for saving this lovely (and helpful?😊) 'pup' and giving him/her their life back❤😊❤

Love how persuasive you are, Tony. That little cutie automatically complied. ❤OCN
It looked like the seal ran to you! 😂🇨🇦😂
Maybe he realized that's the legendary HELP Team of which other seals told him.. 👋 from Germany...
Gracias OCN
Little buddy went to Antoine when he called "here, here, here." I'm at home saying "good boy" to puppy.
😁👍
🇺🇦❤️🙏Thank you very much Team OCN. Good job.

"There you go puppy, h, you're not a puppy anymore". Tony you rock.
Nice speed improvement.
He nearly made it to the water! Lucky for him he didn’t! 🙂🏴
🙂👍
Danke 💖
I just bought a shirt from you guys and am so happy I’m able to help support your rescues even with this small purchase! What you do is incredible, and whenever I’m having a bad day, I was a dozen of your videos to watch you save these beautiful animals and let them live out their lives in the sea pain free, and it brings me so much joy to see the work you all do. Thank you for being such amazing people
Beautiful opening this one!
Ho we go again! Great job as always.❤
Look at all them healthy little whelps!
You are really brilliant wat you do for the seals bless you all for helping them ❤️ x
That was an AWESOME save!
The pup saw Tony and ran right into the net.
“One of the most common” and the one that does the most damage.
There’s one thing about my nets, they’re to smaller mesh to entangle a seal, and we don’t have any kind of problems like that with our colony of seals ✌️🇬🇧
Thank you!! ❤❤❤ OCN!
👍
All those pups! Oh my ❤❤❤❤!
I always wonder how you manage to detect the entanglements while you are running. Thank you so much!
Great work as always folks!! 👍👍
❤❤❤
Love watching your vids from Western Pennsylvania, USA.
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Wow that’s sure is a lot of birds they saw you coming first
🙂
Seal ran straight into the net like he knew.
Gotta wonder what impact disturbing the entire colony has with all those young pups?
We would not be using these tactics if some animals were indeed getting crushed to death or even injured in the stampede. From a very young age, Cape fur seal pups are tough enough to handle adults walking - sometimes charging - over them.
We do not perform any rescues from November to January, when the newborns are indeed too small to swim or to handle the older, bigger fur seals running over them.
Thanks❤
Poor baby
Thanks.
So many of these entangled seals become easy prey.
No predators prey on Cape fur seals along these colonies. The water is simply too murky and shallow for sharks to attack, and orcas that frequent this area only once or twice a year do not seem to be interested in them.
@@OceanConservationNamibia That's good news. I incorrectly thought that somewhere in the water those entanglements would leave them less capable to defend themselves
Great Job Team...
This is a skill we wish we never had to develop, but we are unfortunately very experienced by now.
👍🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️🦭🦭🦭💐
❤Team OCN 👍😎✊
I dont miss one of your video clips and appreciate your devotion and concern. Then I had this terrible thought about the panic of the seals going into the water. Does this attract Great White Sharks?
I have seen replies from OCN to previous comments about this, and understand that there are not normally orcas or predatory sharks in the waters. I hope this helps, and that OCN can set your mind at rest. Good wishes 😊

👏🏻👏🏻
First time i saw the seal before Antoine said, " here, here". Thank you Team, helping him out of the entanglement 🙌🦭💕. Youngster is out of the serious danger .
That one baby pup got trampled by the others so many times i thought he was dead, but fortunately he sprang right up and kept running.
🙂👍
Valeu!
nice rescue
👍
I wonder. How many seals are missed for every one caught?
We have a 98.4% success rate, but we might in fact capture an escapee some time later, we are not sure.
@OceanConservationNamibia I meant how many seals die because you don't see and rescue them. Then I remember one of your tag lines that 90% of entangled sea life dies unnoticed, so I already knew the answer.
Your success rate is awesome! You all are awsome.
Under the video it says the Finnish, "unfortunately you can't make donations yet in this country or region". I do not know, why 🤷♀.
We have the same issue here in Namibia 🙂
@@OceanConservationNamibiaReally! 😧
