  • HELLO EVERYONE!
I'm posting this video because I do not want everyone to go through what I went. I got a CE Light for P0346 camshaft position sensor A bank circuit range performance bank 2.
Car was idling bad and there was a tapping/clicking sound. According to 2 forums I came across online, they were referring to a dreaded timing chain pensioner problem; very common. I went on and bought a timing chain tensioner for driver side or North American side. Luckily didn't have to buy the timing tool since my buddy had it. After 2 months of waiting for my buddy to help me do it. We finally took it out and found out a broken guide. WE THOUGHT THERE WAS THE PROBLEM AND we put the new timing chain tensioner on and assembled all the parts and fired up the car.
To our surprise the problem was still there, nothing had changed. Idle was rough, CE light still there, tapping/clicking noise etc
    Some of the symptoms:
    - Once CE light was cleared, it wont come back ON until you shut off the car and turned back on.
    - Idle was rough like a timed sine wave like
    - Tapping/clicking noise ( was later diagnosed to be intake flaps. Nothing to do with p0346)
We checked all Hall sensors, 4 of them. 2 on the left bank and 2 on the right. Including switching sensors and checking all pins one by one for power, signal and ground. They turned out all okay. Then, we thought we were gonna check the computer area for melted on shorted wires. But didn't end up doing it. Instead we took the intake manifold out to diagnose the tapping/clicking sound. and we found both vacuum hoses that go to the valve cover were broken. We got those fixed up and now it was time to do lots of computer side electrical testing.
Day was gone and my buddy left and I was ready to clean up. Had to do something inside the house and caught up on google search again over p0346 issue. I was randomly going through google pics when I came across one article from justanswer.com. someone mentioned of a different older model Audi of a stuck up camshaft solenoid valve with p0346, saying it was a bulletin by Audi for a stuck up Camshaft solenoid valve.
I ran back outside took the camshaft valve out (making sure what it is and which one it is; there's two on each bank. pretty much on the valve cover area) Held by 1 Star screw. ........30 seconds and it's out. AND TO MY SURPRISE,..... there it is!!!! Something looks like a metallic mesh stuck to the valve inside. like really stuck. I used battery power first and tried to take it out. Then used tweezers to pull it out. used compressed air to clean it and put it back on. Cleared CE light. started the car. OFF and start again no problems no CE light. No rough idle.
So there was my 2 months of waiting and doing a lot of work on the car for a 2 minute valve cleaning job. I wish i knew this in the first place; but at least now i learned it the hard way. Nowhere on the forums I seen someone saying anything about a stuck up camshaft solenoid valve. But here you guys, please spread this as much as you can so everyone can benefit.
Please like and share with those who are in need, before jumping to do a major repair like I did.

Great video... Audi changed things on their 2010 3.2. I am still a little lost trying to figure it out. However, your video has helped a great deal.

Hey man, I also wanted to thank you for posting this video. I was getting the same code and feared it was much worse. Found your video and figured that was the easiest place to start. Lo and behold, there was that tiny little piece of mesh stuck in one of the valves screwing everything up. Removed it, reset the ECU... bam, no more CEL, no more rough idle. I was scared the tensioner had gone and it had skipped a tooth on one of the cam gears. This was a lifesaver. Sincerely, thank you.

.Sure enough there was a little piece of clear plastic jamming the solenoid valve and prevent proper cam control on bank 2 intake. Once removed, cleaned and tested the readiness was able to be set 100% with VCDS and normal operation was correct.

I cannot believe this was my issue! Mine was the bottom passenger solenoid and it had that little mesh thing too! Like seriously a 2mm×2mm piece of metal mesh! How can that cause such a big issue! I wonder what it came from and how it got there but same exact issue! Thank you so much for posting this video. Nothing better than I free fix (for now) for an Audi! Thank you!

I already replaced all of the cam sensors but I get the P0346, only when I scan while driving, yet no Check Engine Light. But the error shows on my scanner, only when I scan and drive at the same time. When I scan in park the scanner shows 0 codes. My vehicle does have symptoms. I looked at the wires and they basically look new in my 2014 ford Mustang V6 3.7. I ssure wish someone can give me some much needed direction. Thank you.

Wiggle and pull out. The o ring is holding it tight there. If you cant wiggle, pull at it hard while slightly wiggling side to side.

Where is P0365 location for my 2006 Audi A6? It's 4 camshaft position sensor 2 on the driver and passenger side. It's saying Note that the “B” means that this sensor is located in the exhaust side of the cylinder head. Bank 1 means that the sensor is located in the engine bank with cylinder 1 so where's it at? I'm lost lol

Does anyone know where the metal mesh screen can be found? I think mine may be clogged.

    • @AfgunPride786
      @AfgunPride786  Рік тому

If you remove your camshaft solenoid, apply 12volts to the two pins and see if it moces, if it doesnt, then the mesh screen has jammed the solenoid and is on the path of movement of solenoid.

@@AfgunPride786 Thank you. Unfortunately, the valve came apart while pulling on it and the lower half (cylinder) was still stuck inside the engine. Luckily I got it out using an internal puller :)

After thinking was chain, replaced tensioners and chains, now after 2 weeks P0020 code came in. Poor/vibrating idle, engine light on, car drives as it should, but I feel it a bit using more fuel

My 3.2 quattro has been in the mechanic's for months because a control unit burnt out due to the flooding of the tray under the windscreen wipers. I forgot to check if the drain hole was clogged... something I do regularly as a rule. But it didn't have any engine problems.
PS: the mechanic says that there is no compression in the driver's side bank, and that the timing chain has probably bypassed ... it seems very strange to me and if so it's really hell the timing chain is on the cockpit side ... Do you know if there's any way to access it without having to dismantle the whole engine?
I will try all your suggestions first though, thank you very much!
