That is awesome you are a keeper as well. I would love to know more about Lighthouses in India. If you get a chance, send me an email and we can talk further. Thank you so much for reaching out.
Ngl, I literally just think about being any jobs that might've suit me, that only requires me to not have a burn out or at least have fun or be at peace, and then I drew a lighthouse in my drawing, and for awhile I kept drawing them in the backgrounds because I can't just draw the sea without a land. And then I wondered,, "What is it like, to be the keeper of light?" After researching what it's like to be a lighthouse keeper, I've decided. Yeah I'm going to be a lighthouse keeper. And if someone told me that I'm not suited for that job and I'll fail, I'll keep dreaming of becoming one out of SPITE
Lighthouses is such great invention that it’s strange that nobody has thought about using them to help mark locations in deep jungles, forests and desserts if people are lost in their camping trips.
I hear you on that one. I think part of the reason may be the difficulty with terrain. With a lighthouse, the light can be focused into a concentrated beam of light. if you are not looking at the beam, the light is actually pretty hard to see. If you had a light on a mountain or a ridge, the light would need to be more spread out so it can be seen from many directions or at least it would need to be focused into a vertical line as it rotates so it can be seen from many elevations. Just my quick thoughts on it.
I don't know why I was expecting an old wooden cabin, almost going to fall down any minute now, lower part flooded, and monsters surrounding the lighthouse in the night 😂😂.
I am from india and we live in a totally different atmosphere a lot of traffic a lot of people, spirituality, friend, family, national affairs, education so on and so on for me living like you is a dream ,for a limited time😅. There are still some lighthouses that use more traditional lenses and bulbs, in other words, they are big. Very Big. But most of the modern day set ups are much smaller and provide the same amount of light in a much more compact package with less power required.

Honestly I think being a lighthouse keeper would be one of the best jobs for me Because I love to be alone, especially when doing any work that I already know what to do without any help Infact I usually hate being around people, and honestly having a job that's most isolated sounds great to me. Which may sound completely mad to most
You are not completely alone, you do have another keeper with you, there are always 2 in reomote places like this just in case there is a medical emergency.
I always suspected that the job is endless and active. You ain't kidding about safety, if you got hurt it's not like anyone will find you for quite a while, you need to take care of yourself and NOT get hurt.
To be a Keeper in Canada you need to be a Canadian citizen or resident and be legal to work in Canada. Then you need your first aid and your Marine Radio Certificate. After that, you just need to be assessed for your abilities to work in isolated conditions and your health to be sure you can be away from civilization for long periods of time.

The tanks are full of diesel fuel. The island is not connected power wise to the mainland anywhere so we need to create our own power. Before the solar panels and wind generators, diesel engines were the only way to charge the batteries needed to power the entire island.
Came here after listening to you on the podcast What Was That Like. As a book loving introvert your job is enviable! What the heck did you pour your eggs over??
@@kelleyforbes8625 it is my take on a traditional Filipino breakfast, Cornsilog. Essentially it is rice with fried shredded corned beef topped with fried eggs. I love it and have it pretty much every day and just change the meat part of it from Corned beef to Spam, to Bacon or to fried smokies each day. I love it. yum.
From a cinematic standpoint, this was excellent! Almost every scene was drawn out in a way that reinforces the solitude. It was immersive as much as it was informative. Do you rotate shifts with your partner or were they not in the video? If you don’t mind me asking, how often do you see your wife if you live where you work?
Thank you so much for your kind words. It is very pleasing to read them and know that sometimes the efforts are worth it. I really wanted to convey these feelings of loneliness and isolation. There are many things you do alone while you are working and when I was filming this was all work done by myself. Different keepers work differently such as the current person I work with tends to want to always work as a team so much of what we do is done together and only a few things during the day are done apart. I have not seen my wife for 10 months now which is very unfortunate. We were hoping she could get out to where I am now before now but things have not quite worked out the way we wanted. Eventually she will live with me at my current station but there is a lot we still need to go through before we can do that. Thanks for your comments and questions.
I don't know if the wage for the lighthouse is question is legit but I would take what I hear online with a grain of salt, so to speak. When a position is open, it is usually posted on the government of canada jobs board.
There is going to be a new job posting on jobs.ca soon and I will be doing a video series to go with it on how you can become a keeper. Keep an eye out for it.
Personally I do not. I know this is not for everyone but for me, I am very comfortable with spending time by myself. Currently, I do have the ability to go into town by boat if I need to but more often than not, I choose not to. There is lots to keep me busy and I find I don't have enough time to do what I want to do.
I don't but I could understand how some would get that way. I do miss being with my wife but I am also quite busy every day so there isn't a lot of time to be lonely.
@@khaiayris3019 that is a compacted question. I did see my wife a few months ago and she does plan on visiting again in a few more months but at this time she has decided that living at the lighthouse maybe is not for her.
This station, Entrance Island, was nothing compared to where I am now. You have to check out the video about Boat Bluff station, there are 70 steps from the lowest level to the top level and you go up and down about 10 to 12 times a day in a normal day. It can be well over 30 if you are having a busy day. Yup, life is rough. haha!
Hi Wayne, hope you are well. The only Internet I am working with currently is cellular but I am looking further into getting satellite put it but it can be expensive. The things you need before applying is first aid and marine radio certificate. Everything else you need is provided once you are working.
That is awesome you would consider such a carrier and it would indeed be possible if you reside in Canada and have the correct credentials. There is an email address in my about page that you can send an email to if you are indeed serious about finding out more and we can see if we can put you down on the correct path.
Most lighthouses are automated so living as a post lighthouse keeper is a non existent job this days .I’m in the coast guard so that’s the info I get and most of the lighthouses we inspect are already automated. Which state are you from maybe they still have a maned ones were you from ?
@@BCLighthouseKeeper I will love to pay you a visit and spend a shift with you at the rock 🪨..let me know if that’s possible I will take a hop to Canada
@@lighthouserockpodcast3858 The station I am at is quite difficult to get to. If you do a google search for Boat Bluff you will see that we have very little access. There are no roads to get here and the only way is by ferry and then by a private boat or if you are really willing, you can charter a helicopter and fly out from Port Hardy. One of the reasons we have to live here full time year round is because of the diffuclty in actually geting out here.
It is possible and Entrance does get visitors all through the year, from kyakers, to fishermen and just people who are curious. There is no dock or easy way to get on other then helicopter but if you don't mind you boat getting a few scratches on the rocks, it can be done.
@@BCLighthouseKeeper we have actually anchored our 30' sailboat in lock bay and used the dingy to check out the sea lions. But we just didn't know if we where allowed to walk around on the island.

@@NatManzano I started my positon when I was 48 and fully plan on working well into my 60's. If you keep fit and in decent shape then the work is not overly diffuclt to do and fully managable as you get older. @@BCLighthouseKeeper I walk 6 miles a day, do yoga and cycle and kayak frequently. I also swim. I think the difficulty would be to get a visa at my age, even with the British passport. But I love Canada even if I cannot do it. I will try some European lighthouses. You are really cool. Thanks.

I love it. yum.
I'm just curious sir, is there internet connection there?
Yes, as a screenwriter, and cinemaphile in general, I was really drawn in!
How can a person get a lighthouse job? Do you know about the lighthouse off France? Do you actually get paid 1.2M for the year?
I don't know if the wage for the lighthouse is question is legit but I would take what I hear online with a grain of salt, so to speak.
When a position is open, it is usually posted on the government of canada jobs board.
Someone's dream job..❤️
My dream job!
Please tell me how to became a light house keeper please guide me 🙏🙏
There is going to be a new job posting on jobs.ca soon and I will be doing a video series to go with it on how you can become a keeper. Keep an eye out for it.
Do you ever find yourself lonely? Do you from time to time wonder what life could've been like if you werent in this career field?
Personally I do not. I know this is not for everyone but for me, I am very comfortable with spending time by myself. Currently, I do have the ability to go into town by boat if I need to but more often than not, I choose not to. There is lots to keep me busy and I find I don't have enough time to do what I want to do.
I wanna do this for a living.
Me too....ah wait, I do already. haha. Thanks for watching!
do you ever feel lonely :(
I don't but I could understand how some would get that way. I do miss being with my wife but I am also quite busy every day so there isn't a lot of time to be lonely.
@@BCLighthouseKeeper how often do you get to see your wife and why can’t she just live with you.
@@khaiayris3019 that is a compacted question. I did see my wife a few months ago and she does plan on visiting again in a few more months but at this time she has decided that living at the lighthouse maybe is not for her.
I wish Im a lighthouse keeper ❤
it is a dream come true, no doubt.
write little texts of your task discreption in video, ex. (average temperature) (what you are monitoring and why)( Times)
Going to make an updated version someday soon.
i think the hardest part of the Job is climbing the stairs
This station, Entrance Island, was nothing compared to where I am now. You have to check out the video about Boat Bluff station, there are 70 steps from the lowest level to the top level and you go up and down about 10 to 12 times a day in a normal day. It can be well over 30 if you are having a busy day. Yup, life is rough. haha!
I get ready for light house kapper job ..
See you on the lights!
I would love too be a lighthouse keeper one day I’m a girl though does that matter ? I might sound stupid saying that
I would say about 40% of lightkeepers are now female so being a girl does not hinder your ability to do the job.
@@BCLighthouseKeeper really ?? That’s amazing thank you I think it’s such a cool job !!
Great video, Do you have internet out there and do you need any special license or training to do your job?
Hi Wayne, hope you are well. The only Internet I am working with currently is cellular but I am looking further into getting satellite put it but it can be expensive.
The things you need before applying is first aid and marine radio certificate. Everything else you need is provided once you are working.
Where can I find such a job?
If you search for assistant lighthouse keeper on the jobs canada site you will see the current application.
Subtitles describing each work station would be informative:)
Fair comment. I have tried to do a few other videos about what things are in more depth but this is something I should be considering for the future.
Respect
Aw, thanks.
I'm a 19 year old girl and im wondering if this career is in any way possible for me. Where to even begin?
That is awesome you would consider such a carrier and it would indeed be possible if you reside in Canada and have the correct credentials. There is an email address in my about page that you can send an email to if you are indeed serious about finding out more and we can see if we can put you down on the correct path.
Most lighthouses are automated so living as a post lighthouse keeper is a non existent job this days .I’m in the coast guard so that’s the info I get and most of the lighthouses we inspect are already automated. Which state are you from maybe they still have a maned ones were you from ?
I am in Canada which still has 28 West Coast stations and 23 East Coast stations that are still manned.
Can anyone come ashore on entrance island and just walk around?
It is possible and Entrance does get visitors all through the year, from kyakers, to fishermen and just people who are curious. There is no dock or easy way to get on other then helicopter but if you don't mind you boat getting a few scratches on the rocks, it can be done.
@@BCLighthouseKeeper we have actually anchored our 30' sailboat in lock bay and used the dingy to check out the sea lions. But we just didn't know if we where allowed to walk around on the island.
@@84Rabbitz I don't know who is actually on Entrance right now but usually Keepers are willing to talk to visitors if and when they show up. Some stations along the west coast trail get a lot of visitors in the summer months. When I was on Entrance I had visitors only twice.
The starting of any distraction
How does one become a lighthouse keeper?
You can go to the Canadian Jobs site and look up Assistant Lighthouse Keeper and apply right on the page.
That sounds like a dream, but I am Spanish/British and over the age of 40, so I do not think they would want me just simply moving in @@BCLighthouseKeeper
@@NatManzano I started my positon when I was 48 and fully plan on working well into my 60's. If you keep fit and in decent shape then the work is not overly diffuclt to do and fully managable as you get older. As for your nationality, you would need to be able to legaly work in Canada, meaning you would need a Canadian SIN number. That does pose some difficulty.
Thanks.
i willing to apply for light house keeper
It is a decent life for sure.
