O'SHAY 🔥 Goodness gracious!! You need to stay in Uganda 🇺🇬 as much as possible and keep these conversations going. They are so needed to help enlighten our people.
I loved this topic. When I came to Uganda East Africa, I made sure to showcase the beauty of my country. I showed pictures of me eating out at Uganda owned restaurants with my family & friends. I showed my family life. I showed the UG creative scene. I didn’t show any kids dancing or the slums. It’s like in London. I walk passed homeless people. I don’t get my camera and take pictures of them. This narrative will change. As someone who lives in the diaspora - this is one of my personal goals to change how the West view my country. I got the opportunity to shoot a feature documentary about Uganda. It will be available for the public to view in 2 years. I also shot some amazing 35mm photography stills showing the beauty of my country. I’ll plan to do a photography exhibition when I come back to Uganda, East Africa. I respect what Oshey, Jonita & DJ Maintain are doing for Uganda, East Africa and the Diaspora.

A1ILLUSTRATION It is good that you want to show the west a different side to Africa, but I am afraid it will never change until there is a complete turn around in Africa. To begin with all the visa applications to flee to the west from Africa must decrease, the scenes they see on television of Africans dying in the sea to get to Europe must decrease. You said you see homeless people in London but never take pictures), yet the number of homeless are a minority, the majority have a home and in Africa the well to do are a minority and the not so well to do are the majority and the west knows this... Yet it is our inability to successfully run our own countries that is the most damaging. The west knows how corrupt and inept most countries in africa are. They see how most of these rulers go to the west for medical treatment, their children are educated in the west, shop in the west etc. So your documentary won't change that perception... The slums are still very present there, the endless wars that have displaced many and made refugees are still ongoing....what makes it so tragic is that Africans don't manufacture much, everything we like to buy and use is made elsewhere. From cars to clothes. How many Africans today own a company that is global in its reach? There isn't anyone. The west do of course, the Asians do and South Americans do. Asia has Samsung, Huawei, Toyota, Honda, LG, SHEIN. As a result they have influence because their reach is global. You know black women like having their nails done and most are run by Asians not us, we buy hair products from shops run by Asians not us, we buy our different food ingredients for African dishes from shops run by Asians, the largest supplier in England of African fabrics is run by an Asian not us. So this perception about our people not being able to do anything is very much alive because of things like this. Documentaries will not change a thing honestly until we fend for ourselves 100%.
It is good to promote the country but not to impress europeans because we dont need their approval but the tide is turning for the better.

The phone I am using right now is a Samsung it is from South Korea. The television I am watching is Panasonic, it is Japanese. I would love to buy one manufactured by an African company, but they don't exist.... You see therein lies the problem with us, we live in denial. Denial that we have a problem, so our problems persist and the condition of the African is not changing. For me the only hope I see that Africa has is in a country that is not even my own.... That country is called NIGERIA. If Nigerians can allow the right leadership to take charge, the Nigerian people are the ones who will build global corporations that all Africans can be proud of and say yes. Do you know how proud Asians feel when they are in the top table of global rankings? It boosts their confidence and stand tall to compete with and even overtake some western countries.
Just look at the rich list of countries 2 Asian countries are in the top 3,they are China and Japan... India is also represented, Brazil is also in the top 10 representing South America. Africa is nowhere on this list. We ourselves are the only ones who can clean up Africa, nobody else can.
Japan was supported by US to rebuild. Toyota is Japanese Oshea. Also Japan was allowed to have protectionist trade policies that is how they industrialised. Russia is exceptional. If you know the history of Russia you would know why they are so resilient
We didn't help Japan.... As a matter of fact.... After WWII, during the occupation _(1945 - 1951)...._ We were destroying all of their Industries _(Airplanes Manufacturing, Ship Building, Steel Industry, Military Industries, etc,)...._ We took all of their Gold and Silver Reserves and even their Ancient Imperial Relics.... And in 1952 Treaty of San Francisco, We took $50 Billion of their Foreign Assets to pay for Marshall Plan.... We took all of their top Scientist.... One of their Nuclear Scientist got Noble Prize while he was being held in US for his work in Physics _(1930s Nuclear Force Theory)...._ We were trying to destroy them from Inside.
Despite all that.... They rebuilt their Ship Building and Steel Industry and basically decimated our Blue-Collar Workers in Shipyards and Steel Mills by Mid 1960s.... In 1971, Nixon took US Dollar off Gold Standard because our industries couldn't compete.... Toyota was a joke until the middle of 1970s.
In 1905, Japan Destroyed Russian Navy _(Pacific Fleet and Baltic Fleet)_ and pushed Russian Army all the way to Siberia.... It sparked the 1905 Russian Revolution.
Exactly, Europe still meddling in Africa today. Just look at gadaffi, Patrice etc.
However, O'Shea is right. It's their job to oppress us, so they will do what they do and don't stop. So it's up to blacks to find their way. Even if it means getting the help through trade with china and Russia.
Africa needs to focus on knowledge which includes real Africa history and also invest in war arsenal.

The image of Africa that we all (from the west) grew up seeing on 📺 is one completely different from what we now see leaving 🇺🇸 🇬🇧 for the first time. The negative image of course is meant to distract and detach us from each other.

I'm panafrican myself, but that's one thing that's kind of irritates me from going full force in Africa. I been to the motherland before (Kenya), and I had a Kenyan fiancee at one time. One of the biggest things that we would debate about is our stances on WY-T help. She saw them as helping Africa, but I saw them from who they really are. But she got on me on one point: why aren't black Americans coming to build like the WY-T are? I didn't have a viable comeback. Black people are so scared of America (much less Africa) that they don't want to even VISIT. Idk what country where I want to end up at, but I know i'll spend my life in some country in Africa.

@Bigas Daddy I agree to an extent. A lot more brothers are going to those other countries for the women, that's true. To argue against you, I would have said that it's because those countries are in closer proximity to them than Africa, but then Thailand is even further than Africa, and ticket prices are roughly the same. But to say that those women are prettier than black chicks? I'll never say that personally. I'll never say that another group of women are better than my own, and neither should any other black man. I partially think it's because most african women from the continent are not going to let you f*** them and leave. They actually want marriage (not to say that women from other countries don't, but it's easier to access them with money). But despite this, although AA men should be at the forefront of African repatriation, it can't be just us. We need AA women too to help build. The more of our people that are willing to rebuild Africa, the better.
I’m investing in Kenyan stocks and that should help me build on the continent. Also looking into stockholders equity so I can get in on Africa’s wealth and ownership to their production. And it’ll help me connect to my African roots.

This is why history is so important! The example of Japan after WWII rebuild was partially if not all was funded by USA taxpayers which includes black Americans tax$$$. The President was going to implement the same re-build system here in America that included Black America, but it was voted down by mostly Southern member of Congress.

But Japan was able to modernize and by 1905, Japan went after Russia _(a White Super Power at that time)...._ It destroyed *Russian Navy **_(Pacific Fleet and Baltic Fleet)_* and pushed *Russian Army all the way back to Siberia....* The defeat sparked *1905 Russian Revolution....* In WWI, Japan went after *Germany in East Asia and the Pacific....* It defeated Germany and *took all of German Territory in Far East....* In WWII, *It destroyed all of European Powers in Asia....* It lost the War but *won the Freedom of all of Asian Nations.*
The Pre-WWII System that the Japan used is what all of the successful Asian countries _(South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, China, Malaysia, Vietnam, etc.)_ are currently using or in the process of using.... That system is what African Countries should be learning.

Africa's diaspora must create the same systems to boost the private sector. I'm not even Ugandan but things are developing even when I am gone so if I can do it, then they can also.

The money goes far in Africa. The most expensive things in any country are rent,utilities,travel, food.
Ask yourselves why the " build the wall" people want to retire in Costa Rica, get their dentistry in Mexico, retire in Africa and Asia.
This was excellent! I really felt DJ Maintain's point, about the difficulty he had not having his work life set up for him when he came to Uganda. In the west we are so accustomed to working for other people. Even when we go to college we are jockeying for a high paying job. That mindset makes us not see and take advantage of opportunities. It's beginning to change though.
Images are used to peddle pretentious “aid”. It’s about the combination of the tragedy of ruination and the pathos of assistance. Those who take part in “poverty porn” are part of a moral economy where emotions and duty are its currency. These people know the psychological relationship between images and the heart. They’re very aware of what they’re doing.
The brother from the UK has a point: There are underlying reasons why we don't develop like Japa, India, China, etc. Shay is off base because his examples are all over the board. You can not compare building a podcast studio to building a school. No one cares about you building a podcast studio. Outsiders will have interest when you begin to build manufacturing plants for things that matter. Things that are going change generations. What do you think the CIA is for?

Very important to note, in comparison African countries are very young, most are about 60 years old. Very easy not to see the progress that has been and is being made in spite of the challenges. Most are by far unaware of the sophistication and commitment of efforts that go into to keeping Africa down by the west.
The difference between all the other countries and cultures is that they were able to keep their cultures and religions. There Gods for the most part. The difference with the African is that we were stripped of our God, and or Spiritual systems, thus making us weak and divided. Now that we know better we must do better… those 400 years are DONE ✅ NO MORE EXCUSES!!! Never forget your pass because if you do, you will repeat it. It’s time to get to work now. No more excuses.

Shame on them. CNN did the same as they highlighted how Kenyans does exams for American university students. They interviewed people from other parts but they had to report from the slums. They never mentioned anything positive about my beautiful country, they even blamed us for their cheating... Crazy 😂😂
There were many good things said, but it’s still way more nuanced than Oshay is making it seem. He’s right about all the other cultures that have pulled themselves up “by their bootstraps”, AND black communities have done that as well. HOWEVER, whenever it had been done, immediately it was destroyed, Black Wall Street and the many OTHER Black Wall Streets that have existed over time. Where would black communities be today if they were not destroyed.
The climate of our communities today is, your permitted success, AS LONG as you’re only doing it for yourself. The minute blks begin to organize on any large scale…. That’s where you begin to see the interference and the tearing down from externally. When it keeps happening over and over again, then that is why black ppl move under the radar, through private investment clubs and privatization!
The problem to be solved is how to build and keep out outside destructive forces? Can you solve that problem???

Facts! What makes the situation in the USA better though is because the country has the entertainment industry especially Hollywood marketing the country as the place to be for humanity 😂. Most outsiders still are not aware of how dilapidated certain parts of the country are. That said, SSM especially a few UA-camrs are venturing out in some of these places and letting everyone know that it’s not all milk and honey! Natural disaster are also exposing the inequalities eg Katrina - the world was shocked. It’s hard to focus on the blacks doing well in the USA 🇺🇸 because they’re are not that many and because they tend to follow (study, work, live, and socialize in the dominant culture’s spaces, it’s hard to feel their impact as most of the time, they are on the fringes as uninvited guests so most play a passive role - acquiesce to fit in

I’ve been living in the USA all my life. I’ve never seen a decent or average black neighborhood. They are all slums and crime ridden. Please point me to one affluent majority black neighborhood.

Excuses will keep us down. The “It’s all our fault” psychology whether right or wrong can only take us forward. No excuses. The excuses are cowardly.
They completely missed the understanding that if they were the ones to do for their own people, they would control the narrative of their people. It's simple marketing strategy, showing the underserved secures resources to complete the mission. Showing a rich country is counterproductive, it doesn't make sense. We have to stop making excuses for ourselves and fight as we have thus far to keep advancing. I believe to some degree, the mind set per our leaders, is that it's easier to let other's do the work.
Guys i here you talking. My story is a sad story yet i own something in this corner of Africa with it i will be able to contribute in each and every country in this continent. I own a gold mine high up on mountains i have ran from pillar to post for my machinery to break ground everyone is folding arms on me. I wonder why yet we keep talking of uplifting this land and our people.

All other groups have been able to thrive because their leadership class has taken things in charge and the rest of the people have followed. Now we have a culture where selfishness is a thing. There is no group thinking from top leadership down to the ordinary person. Regarding Japan, Korea and Singapore, they were allowed and supported to thrive but Black People are always sabotaged. Our people are full in Churches and Mosques, praying to God for Miracles, but not Development. A change of the mindset is certainly required.

Bro the developments in those countries you cited were funded by American investors. Besides, those countries already had the technology needed to develop before they had wars. You really have to understand the amount of resources and efforts the Europeans, even America put into suppressing African development, you will be amazed. For example, France and England disrupts any government that attempts to build and operate oil refinery in Nigeria. They control the imports of refined petroleum into the country.
We can still make Africa work for us while people are afraid of us and still can't do without us . Let's forget them and love ourselves. We have the power to change things.

I agree with both men. Two things can be right at the same time, and I believe it is in this issue. I don't believe if we were at the top we would oppress other groups. That is not our nature. This may sound arrogant but if there is no knee on our neck, collectively we would rise to the top naturally. The problem is making sure we do not betray ourselves, stay alert, and stop being passive to those who set traps for us which allows others to come in take over.
O’Shea is sooo right in so many ways. WE have to stop playing the game by their rules and set our minds to rising up no matter the opposition. We’re too worried about their BS. THEY will keep do what they’ve been doing, until it’s no longer profitable for them. We need to create a new game and rise up.
