    I just had to comment, the cutting it in half of the nylon headband was an awesome idea. I was already thinking I purchased a huge bag for nothing because they are huge, but that idea now will help me continue to sew alot of mask for more people that need them.

And you are right that we should be making them for the senior centers and retirement homes and I hadn't even thought of that. I will now. When this first started, i only had an old sheet to use. I did not feel comfortable giving masks away that i made with that. So i ordered fabric online,cuz the stores were closed, and ihave been waiting since march for that to come in.it came in yesterday.june 17th. Since there was no elastic available either I got some t-shirt yarn to use for the ears, works great. Highly recommend it. Thank you for the simple tutorial.

I'll be keeping all my masks after this is over. I'm starting to think I might start wearing masks more often when I'm sick or during flu season. I work at a Primary school K-1. Need I say more? LOL! I know other countries regularly wear them. I think we would have fared much better had we been a nation that wasn't so foreign to mask-wearing. Stay well, everyone!

      The CDC had recommended cotton for masks because it was better to "Filter" out particles that could make you sick. It was also recommended because of the ability to breath through.
      Honestly, I think that you would still need a filter no matter which fabric you choose to use.
      Here is a link for another video that includes a filter pocket:

      @@SarahYoang Hi Sarah, I live in Scotland and the main disinfectants here are Zaflora (going since the 1920's) and Dettol, the kind that you just put a capful in about 3 pints of water. I sew craft wire inside the top edge of the masks using my zipper foot to encase the wire before I topstitch or fold the pleats, so far folks are happy with them. Your pleat placement is genius. As I have sewn craft wire into them they would come out of the washing machine as we say "like a dogs hind leg" bent and distorted so I just hand wash then disinfect them to kill any germs or virus. Hope this helps, thankyou so much. Keep well, Anne

    Very easy pleating method- thanks for that. Now that is has been a few months, how have the headbands holding up? I used them on a mask for my elder mother and they seemed to have stretched out just enough that the mask no longer fits snuggly. I do have a neck piece on the back so I am wondering if that is causing her to overstretch it to get it over her head or if the headbands are just prone to eventually get stretched out.

    • @SarahYoang

      Mine have held up fine, However I did purchase two different nylon bands and the color bands seem to be more stretchy and they do loose the elasticity over time. The thicker nylon band I used in this video has held up well.

    This is the easiest and simplest video on how to create even pleats, I struggle with that on each mask I make, not anymore.

    Excellent video , super easy, Im just a little confused as to weather or not the larger crease is top or bottom.

    • @SarahYoang
      @SarahYoang  3 роки тому

      The larger pleat firs best over the nose, so I would consider that to be the top

    Thank you for this simple to follow tutorial. Your very easy to listen to. Can you give me the link to the baby headbands you purchased from amazon? I ordered a pack but they appear to be much smaller then the ones you suggested in your video. Thank you for your time.

      @SarahYoang  4 роки тому +1

      Yes! The pleats on the outside will point down like roof shingles

    First pleated video I could watch all the way through. Everyone making masks, please make the pattern bigger for a few. I am not a factory diyer but it's getting there because sooo many people have big faces. Hem a loop on the ends so you can string an elastic shoe lace kit through it and boom adjustable over the head securing. Anyone that has newer style hearing aids will need this. Which is why all my masks go out with ear loops and the head strap, then they can choose and cut off what they don't like.

      Chicken Strips, yes, you have a very good point about making the masks bigger, especially if you are using elastic. Even with the nylon bands I used I had noticed that some of our senior residents couldn’t fit into them. It helped to add an inch to the width of the mask as well.
      Thank you for joining the fight by making masks!

    Hello. I just so happened used panty hose because I could not find elastic & it works wonders. All I did was cut it into 2-inch rings. Then I stretched it. Don’t cut the rings open. Just lay your rings on then sew the material sealed. Don’t sew the rings!! Just the material. 😄. I’ve used
    panty hose for three masks. I did find large, black pony tail bands for a previous project. It works great. I also made face masks using t shrt material and I cut two strips for ties. Make sure to cut East to West - it stretches more then if you cut North to South. Hope makes sense.

      Nori Hashimura that is very clever to keep them in a loop and not cut them!

    what a great video! I've watched so many on UA-cam and this was the best and easiest to follow! :) thank you! what size would you recommend for the fabric for a 2-year old?

    • @SarahYoang
      @SarahYoang  4 роки тому +5

      Dana Lott I have another tutorial just for the children sizes and it includes a filter pocket:
      ua-cam.com/video/6p7w604h9d8/v-deo.html
      The measurements for this child’s mask fits my two year old, and with the super stretchy nylon bands it should fit up to a 10 year old

    Thanks or your prompt answer .. I do understand your point ... some masks after we follow through the construction... fit horribly.. some people add the finish product on their face , model , etc and you can see how they fit 🙏

    I have also used tshirt material cut on bias which works well and more comfortable than the elastic. I also used simple bias tape (make your own), or purchased.
