    This has gotta be one of the most underappreciated channels on UA-cam. It's such a hyper specific first world problem but I'm so glad someone with musical skills is fixing it. I really like how loud and imposing the drums come in at 8:55!

    These reimagined tracks are always great. Something that was very clear to me this time is how you communicate the idea of a sci-fi action horror movie, the original inspiration for the Metroid series as a whole, so much better than the original ost. If you listen to the older games' soundtracks you can hear those alien elements you were talking about, but they have very human elements to ground them as well, representing Samus in her surroundings. I think the underlying problem with Dread's soundtrack is that it uses the isolation aspect of being lost in an alien world as it's focle point, rather than Samus.

    This is fantastic! It sounds like you executed your plan perfectly. In the beginning, we have that familiar, grand sense of majesty that we associate with the Chozo, as well as that sense of finality of, like you said, making it to ZDR's surface. But underneath that, there's still a note of danger. Not a rush of adrenaline, but a need to concentrate harder than ever. Including Ridley's theme was also a good touch! I like this one a lot-- it's definitely one of my favorites!

    Man this is so good. Personally I didn’t love the original soundtrack to this game. I felt that the atmosphere was good, but the music itself was strange to listen to. You’ve done an incredible job with these reimaginings!

    As usual, that was such a huge improvement! Great job, man. I normally don't dig fan works (those "Mario 64 in Unreal Engine" videos and such, I find awful), but your whole project has been the exception. Fantastic job.

    I'm telling you man, you need to get in touch with one of the video game music remix labels and get this series on a CD or vinyl or BOTH. I'd buy both in a heartbeat.

    This is damn gorgeous. One of your best yet. I hope that little repeating melody at 7:14 ends up being Raven Beak's leitmotif or something, it would be a cool way to really hammer in that idea of the looming boss fight!

    Breathtaking!
    I just realised what I (myself, not the whole world) thought was missing from the OG OST: a direction.
    A soundtrack can be ambient AND convey a feeling, multiple even.
    Dread's OST was quite good at creating an atmosphere, somewhat stale, but still.
    What I think it lacked was those intentions you added.
    As for this rendition, I FELT grandeur, I FELT hope.
    I knew by reading the in-game text that Samus's mission was important, but with this song, I FELT that Samus's mission was critical.
    (Also, I love the flute doing its howling or something, it injects some DKC/Chrono Trigger feels to the piece.
    Never expected that, but it WORKS.)
    This soundtrack you're building is major. I don't know if I'll still enjoy the thrill of videogames some decades from now.
    But I WILL keep on listening to their soundtracks.
    And yours is in that list. You have my gratitude.

I think you definitely accomplished what you set out to do with this piece 👍 Thanks again for all the effort you've put into this. I always get super stoked for a new upload.

    Once again, a new and improved version over the original, in my opinion. Although, I have a single complaint about it. In the mix you can hear this sharp very acute noise that almost feels like needles to my ears. I'd lower that a bunch or even remove that, because to me at least, it kind of sounds like tinnitus in the background of the whole song. Then again, I have tinnitus, so maybe I'm just more sensible to that than most people. But apart from that, once again, I really prefer this version over the original, keep doing great things!

    Great work on this one! I usually have some comment or nitpick to make, but this time, I don't even have any tiny criticisms to make. This track is enjoyable, far more memorable than the original while keeping the goal and basic feel of the original. It's great to hear that even this far into the project, you are keeping the quality up and even become better at it.

  • @jimazo

    The original Hanubia theme reminds me of some of Fusion’s tracks, particularly Sectors 3 and 6 - sparse, low-key tracks that keep the tension up without letting it grab you completely. Hanubia was like those tracks but less subtle, and for where it is in the game it makes no sense to be like that. As usual, the thought you put into this track is clear and makes for a major upgrade. Do I detect Prime title and Versus Ridley in this?

  • @HouseGhost1
    @HouseGhost1 11 місяців тому

    This is one of your better recreations yet, but there are still some points that would need to be changed to make it truly great.
    One of them is that you should remove the timpani at some of the sections of your track (like at the part of 6:46) so it could breathe a bit more and make their inclusion a bit more special.
    I also feel the mix on the bass that the track starts with should be more clear.

    Dread may have become my favorite Metroid (or at least very high on the list), but the soundtrack definitely feels weak in its memorability. I love this remake of Hanubia, and this whole project! Thank you youtube algorithm for feeding me the good stuff!

    I originally posted this comment on your Ghavoran reimagined video but I am reposting it here because it think you really should hear this.
    I think Ghavorans original theme works quite well after the X get released from Elun.
    The disturbing unharmonious sound is extremely fitting when the X suddenly appear and ruin the balance and harmony of nature.
    Your reimagining is great for Ghavorans natural state before the X arrive but it fails to convey the destruction and chaos caused by the X.
    I suggest that you divide Ghavoran into 2 tracks similar to how you handled Ferenia.
    Ghavoran 1 (The track you already made) would be used before the X get released and a new track named Ghavoran 2 (A distorted and at least somewhat disharmonious remix of Ghavoran 1) would be used after the X escape from Elun.
    Also I have been wondering,do you plan to handle the E.M.M.I. themes and the boss battle tracks in the future?
    That and also the many area themes you haven't touched yet like Artaria 3,Cataris 1,Dairon (Blackout),Burenia 2 etc.

      Totally agree about Gavorahn. Think he should totally make a Gavorahn II Track. His remixes have been great and I feel that he could blend the original Gavorahn track with the one he made and a little bit of something new. No matter what future tracks come up though, I’ll be one of the first in line to check it out!

    Knocked it out of the park, as always! It conveyed *exactly* what you said you were going for.
    By any chance, are you a Halo fan? I got some real ODST vibes from your use of a high... wail, I guess I'd call it? over a simple repeating melody. It’s great at evoking a feeling of loneliness, since it draws attention to itself while seeming separate from the rest of the song. I went looking back through the ODST sounstrack, and the song Neon Night is probably what your Hanubia was reminding me of.

    Dude... instant fail for calling the OG music bad. That is an absurd thing to say!
    The music as is gives off the perfect amount of atmosphere for each area, & that's the point! It isn't meant to be something you jam to outside the game. It's designed to perfectly fit the vibe of each area each song accompanies.
    The tracks give off a vibe of darkness & isolation, along with capturing the vibe of each area perfectly! Ghavoran in particular is my absolute fav of the OG tunes. A jungleish tune but an empty one... one devoid of life. It is PERFECT as is!!
    I am honestly flabbergasted to hear someone call the OG music bad... Anyone saying that clearly doesn't understand video game music.

    • @jimazo
      @jimazo 11 місяців тому

      If you watch the rest of the series, you’ll notice that he has some very pointed comments. The original soundtrack uses low-quality midi instruments and de-emphasize melodies, leading to indistinct sound. Atmospheric music is good, but Metroid music is known for having very distinct and coherent music while still being atmospheric, so that’s what he’s going for here.
      He’s also made it clear that he really likes a lot of the soundtrack, and he’s first and foremost reinterpreting them to explore his own musical style. You don’t have to agree with all of them, but he does explain WHY he makes changes that he does, which IMO is a lot of the fun and demonstrates a lot of musical talent.

    • @skins4thewin
      @skins4thewin 11 місяців тому

      @@jimazo I would have to disagree. Super Metroid had the exact same sort of atmospheric style to it's music. None of that is stuff that one would normally listen to outside of the game. It's no different here.
      I also never said anything about his interpretations, only that I find it completely inaccurate to say the original music was bad. It in no way is bad. I was not judging his new work, just his remark on the original work.
      Also, where did you get that the game used low quality MIDI instruments? I don't buy that at all. The quality of the instruments sound far better than anything MIDI to me. That just sounds like something someone hating on the game would say.

    • @jimazo
      @jimazo 11 місяців тому

      @@skins4thewin You're right that Super Metroid is atmospheric, but as I said, it also has a distinct sound where Dread doesn't. And as I said, he likes a lot of the original soundtrack, but doesn't feel that the highlights save the lackluster overall tone. I say that the instrumentation is low quality because the individual instruments sound flat to my ears.
      I'm glad you wholesale like the Dread soundtrack, though. I think it wasn't executed to the standards of the series, but it has a lot of great ideas, and you're right that it isn't bad by any means.

    • @skins4thewin
      @skins4thewin 11 місяців тому

      @@jimazo I really don't know what you mean by "distinct sound", it sounds plenty distinct to me. The melodies stick out in my head & I think they fit the game perfectly.
      There is nothing "lackluster" about it, I think it's fantastic & am honestly shocked to hear ppl say otherwise.

  • @lancecoleman6684

    your reimagined track doesn't really capture the odd feeling you get hearing the original. I think the original version is better in trying to convey something a bit more foreboding and alien. your track sounds more uplifting its slower and calming. its kinda boring overall. I don't get any underlying tones from it.
    heavily leaning more into scifi but not like creepy alien monster
