Hi! Generally I don't like to use myself as a direct comparison for students applying to college now because admissions have changed since I applied, plus everyone is unique and will pursue different interests. That said, if you're generally curious about my background, I had straight As in honors/IB classes (my school did not do weighted GPA), 1530 SAT, and a variety of extracurriculars mostly outside of school including figure skating, drama/film production classes, creative writing summer program/projects, an internship at a local hospital, student representative on the local city council, and involvement in a couple clubs, amongst other things.
YOURE JOKING. my english teacher told us to make it creative and continued to give us examples of people writing it in a story tone so thats what i did. im so upset
Ahh yeah I hear that a lot, I think many English teachers don't realize the UCs are looking for something different from the personal statement. Don't stress too much--it's not ideal but the UCs will still look for the content that's there about your background and activities, and ultimately that matters more than the writing style!
Maia, this is great! Thank you for sharing your insight with students everywhere.
Thank you!
Thank you, this a great yet overlooked topic.

SAME HERE. My teacher even had us do a workshop in her class to practice for it. Mine sucked anyway :(
