Some notes:
The death at 1-7 midboss was planned. First of 2 bombs before it wasn’t - I just had 1 bomb too many approaching the midboss and spontaneously decided to use it for a few more points. Which could have been a costly mistake as I also stupidly wasted too much ammo there. Still somehow it all worked.
There’s also a panic bomb at 1-4 boss, where I found myself cornered. It costed me 10k points I’d otherwise get in next stage.
Other than those mistakes everything went according to plan and this replay shows what I believe to be the safest 1st loop strats for Mao Mao. Since her straight shot at full power is the strongest of all characters (except when point blanking), but she carries the least ammo (31 rounds), USA - Sweden - UK is in my opinion the optimal stage order for her, although Sweden - USA - UK is fine too. UK boss fight won’t last as long as the other two and (when not trying to conserve ammo, but still collecting power ups for points) the rank will drop halfway through the hardest part of the stage, making it easier than what it is for other characters in the same circumstances.
The reason I handled the beginning of 1-6 the way I did is to avoid the first big helicopter spawning. The trigger to spawn it is killing two stationary tanks on the left side quickly enough.
Additional suicide in 1-6 with power ups and bomb item floating on screen could make the rest of that stage trivial, but I didn’t deem that necessary.
Had no plans for 2nd loop again, so it’s just random flailing and panic bombing. In particular the death in Sweden stage was stupid and easily avoidable had I remembered that the bomb carrier is going to point blank me right away. Didn’t see that last bullet in 2-5 coming because my eyes are shit.
Will probably do Hien next.
Gran Juego, me trae muy buenos recuerdos, me encanta ❤. Mao mi personaje favorito.
