Fucking legend of a man.
If you stop the video right as he's finishing playing the guitar with his teeth, you can see the gap where his ex-tooth used to be. I'm actually surprised his mouth didn't bleed like crazy. But once again, he never missed a beat and in fact his weeping guitar started weeping even louder with intense but totally under control feedback!

The guitar switch was because this song was written for his guitar tech that passed away, he always used the same guitar for this song, he didn't drop his pick he was adjusting the foot pedals to the new guitar, and well as adjusting his amp settings on the fly, he was so in tune with his guitar that he could play it in any position he wanted! SRV was just about to hit rock bottom of a drug and alcohol addiction when this was recorded. You can see it in his eyes. I saw him live in 1985 and it was my first real concert experience. He got clean in 1986 and went on to advocate for others to get clean until his untimely death August 27, 1990. One of the saddest days of my life. Stevie was on a different level. drops his pick and grabs it without stopping his play, changes his guitar with his tech seamlessly without missing a beat. Tunes the new guitar while jamming out, pops out a tooth while playing with his teeth and searches for it while playing, plays like a beast behind his back, truly an amazing performance.
When it appears he's dropping his pick, he's actually adjusting knobs on his foot pedals (e.g., tone, level, overdrive, etc.). That's why he was turning on other amps and making adjustments there as well. P.S. That was, indeed, Reese Wynans on the keys.

I’ve been playing for 57 years. Always followed and listened to all the greats. There are so many from different genres. SRV is just a step above all the rest.
Of all the artists who've died too young, SRV is the one that hit me the hardest. Pure love of what he was doing, and as you heard, he was a promoter of love among each other. It hurts not knowing what else he would have given us. Rest in peace, guitar god.
You need to understand that the guitar is part of him, an extension of his hands. He is never lost on where to go. Some guitarists have to think about how to proceed. Not SRV. It just flowed out of him. The best I have ever heard.
His main guitars were Number One (First Wife) the battered guitar, Charlie the white one, Lenny, named for his ex-wife, and Butterscotch. Pretty sure they were always there plus a few others. You can hear the guitar wailing, expressing Stevie’s pain at losing his friend. Great Reaction!

All of your great blues players like Albert King B.B King Buddy Guy. Give Stevie Ray Vaughan the credit for bringing the blues to the Forefront of mainstream in the 80s. And bringing the blues back alive again to the people.
Stevie always played this particular song, Life Without You, as a tribute to his good friend Charley Wirz (RIP) that owned Charley's Guitar Shop in Dallas and Stevie always played it on the white guitar that Charlie had built as a gift for Stevie. “Charley” is a white custom-made "hardtail" (non-tremolo, fixed bridge) "Stratocaster-style" guitar built it in late 1983, with a neck plate on it engraved _”To Stevie Ray Vaughan, more in '84.”_ My best guess is Stevie just forgot in all the excitement.. so started the song with "Red,” but then realized his mistake and switched to Charley mid song... it was that important to him. Stevie's guitar tech and roadies were like a Nascar pit crew at changing strings and switching Stevie's guitar's out because he played so hard he often broke strings.
Then again, Stevie's guitar tech may have just put new strings on (you can see Stevie mouthing to him "it's going out of tune" during the song and you can hear Stevie comment about his guitar going out of tune at the end of the clip) and they were still stretching out and going flat as he played the song. This may have had something to do with him starting the song without "Charley," but if you watch him perform "Come On" right before this song you can see "Charley" sitting on it's guitar stand ready to go. So who knows...

This song was in every set list, in his live shows..after he got sober, the speech was different every time, up all the way to the end..same hopeful messages, but each one more poignant! I was amazed that Stevie Ray Vaughan was such a sweet soul and love for everyone after hearing his older brother Jimmie Vaughan talk about their abusive childhood, their father was an alcoholic who abused them both but Jimmie said Stevie Ray always got it the worst. Coming from an abusive home myself I understand why people get into drugs and alcohol, I was raised by a mother who always told me she never wanted me and would lock me in a cold dark basement with no windows and a dirt floor, beat me with a board with 2 nails in it and I wouldn't eat but every 2 or 3 days. Drugs and alcohol was a survival technique to numb yourself from the pain and always asking yourself why me? Like Stevie Ray I had to go to rehab and face the things that happened to me and being a Stevie Ray Vaughan fan for over 40 years I heard this and I still cry. He took something so ugly and cruel and made himself a positive influence for people like me. That's why I had to find out everything about Stevie Ray from childhood to now, I don't mean to sound corny but he changed my life. STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN WILL ALWAYS BE THE GOAT imo
Had a friend back in those days who was a cabbie in Austin. Good dude and he was Stevie's goto cab driver when he was in town. Had nothing but praise for Stevie, a kind and generous man.
The white guitar was made for him by his friend Charlie who owned a guitar shop in Dallas. Charlie died unexpectedly of a heart attack. He wrote the song for Charlie and plays it on the guitar Charlie made for him

Beautiful. A whole different level of talent. Met him in the college-town bars of West Texas. I worked a little in sound reinforcement and help him set monitor levels a couple of times. He and Double Trouble did a show one night with Joe Ely, and there were twice as many people in the street trying to get in than people in front of the stage. When it was all over, there wasn’t a stick of furniture standing up straight. Good Lord was that great.

Thank you for covering my favorite guitarist, SRV. There are several that could legitimately claim the guitar throne, but for me it's his style, soul, creativity and passion that comes through his playing (and his singing) that makes him number one for me. This song in particular is big with me, because it always reminds me of my mom who my family lost in 2016. If you haven't already checked out another one of his slower jams, I highly recommend his cover of Jimi's Little Wing-itself a beautiful classic. He takes a 2:20 second song and turns it into his own 7 minute masterpiece. If you want to check out a couple other blues rock guitarist who are legitimately underappreciated, sample some Jeff Healey. For a banger, try See the Light, and for a slow burner, I Think I love You Too Much. Jeff also has an awesome smokey bluesy voice perfect for his style. An ever lesser known talent is Eric Gales, who Joe Bonamassa calls the greatest living blues guitarist. He has tons of songs as well. I would recommend his instrumental High Anxiety and Resurrection and Sign of the Storm! You will be happily impressed! Great channel guys!

Stevie didn't dress like that, or play his guitar behind the back, with his teeth, etc. to Show Off. I know this from the interviews of Tommy Shannon, bass and Chris Layton , guitar. Told about how he and his mom were in a mall, and people would stop him for his autograph sometimes, but lots of people Stared at him. He told his mom he wished they wouldn't do that, "I wonder why they stare at me." His mom, "It's those damn red pants you're wearing !" Chris Layton chuckled, "See, that's just the way he dressed ALL the time. Those were just his clothes." *** I first heard Pride & Joy on a local tavern jukebox in '96 in Settle, Wa., annoying the guys cuz I played it over and over. Later, sober, teaching English as a 2nd Language to young adults in Istanbul, Turkey 2003 I found damn near all his CDs -- bought every one of them. I didn't know he'd died in 1990...and I still tear up sometimes. I suggest, if you can, find, on his studio CDs, great ones : The Sky is Cryin', The Things That I Used to Do and of course We Couldn't Stand the Weather. Brings me joy to see On Your Faces how you Felt Stevie, even as you were stunned by his guitar playing. Oh, and someone said his voice is Honey Over Gravel. Great review. 85 was the year I got to meet him by the buses, after his DC gig at Constitution Hall. Still got my hat with the SRV autograph on the shelf. No cell phone pics back then, but he was a down to earth humble Texan who very much may've been the greatest guitarist of all time. Certainly of his time. You just wouldn't know it by spending a few precious moments in his company.
Ya'll have reacted to enough SRV now to understand why he's not just my #1 guitarist, but he's my #1 artist to listen too. His untimely death hit me hard. I remember getting the word on the radio in the car and I had to pull over and let it sink in. I miss his talent and the music he could have made over the years.

If there is a key board player with him it's Reese. He is the only keyboardist that ever played with him. I was lucky enough to see him 6 times. Best guitarist I've ever seen live. There is a biography about him called caught in the crossfire. A very inspirational read. He got sober that last several years of his life. A very special talent and person and very humble.

It was Reese.. SO enjoying watching you guys experience Stevie... Little Wing also at the El Macambo... There is a 17 min "Warm up" "Sound Check" that freaks most people out as well. You want to see "dressed like a rock star", he's it in the sound check. Saw the his live when I was 15 years old old. To this day it didn’t seem real. I was given a gift to such an amazing person. His story stuck with me my whole life. I try with my whole heart to give joy every day if I can. Thank you Stevie!!

Was awesome to watch him pull it off. Watching one of his long videos I thought I counted like 4 or 5 guitars he switched through. 3 for sure his go to, the white one (his guitar builder built the white from different parts he had laying around his shop) a solid red, and burst (probably the one he switched out of in this video. Stevie was on a different level. drops his pick and grabs it without stopping his play, changes his guitar with his tech seamlessly without missing a beat. Tunes the new guitar while jamming out, pops out a tooth while playing with his teeth and searches for it while playing, plays like a beast behind his back, truly an amazing performance.
When it appears he's dropping his pick, he's actually adjusting knobs on his foot pedals (e.g., tone, level, overdrive, etc.). That's why he was turning on other amps and making adjustments there as well.

He didn't drop his pick. He adjusted his foot pedal for "Charley" (the white strat) since he changed from "Red." He was also adjusting amps/equipment to accommodate the tuning of "Charley."
Typically, he would have #1, Charley, Red, Lenny, and Scotch on stage and ready to rock.
Yup, that was Reece. In all his badass-ness. 😉
During his speech, he was referring to the apartheid of S. Africa taking place during that time frame. Words we can all live by even today.

I’ve been playing for 57 years. Always followed and listened to all the greats. There are so many from different genres. SRV is just a step above all the rest.
Once you see it live it’s real easy to tell this guy was on another level. The Goat!
Of all the artists who've died too young, SRV is the one that hit me the hardest. Pure love of what he was doing, and as you heard, he was a promoter of love among each other. It hurts not knowing what else he would have given us. Rest in peace, guitar god.
You need to understand that the guitar is part of him, an extension of his hands. He is never lost on where to go. Some guitarists have to think about how to proceed. Not SRV. It just flowed out of him. The best I have ever heard.
His main guitars were Number One (First Wife) the battered guitar, Charlie the white one, Lenny, named for his ex-wife, and Butterscotch. Pretty sure they were always there plus a few others. You can hear the guitar wailing, expressing Stevie’s pain at losing his friend. Great Reaction!

All of your great blues players like Albert King B.B King Buddy Guy. Give Stevie Ray Vaughan the credit for bringing the blues to the Forefront of mainstream in the 80s. And bringing the blues back alive again to the people.
Stevie always played this particular song, Life Without You, as a tribute to his good friend Charley Wirz (RIP) that owned Charley's Guitar Shop in Dallas and Stevie always played it on the white guitar that Charlie had built as a gift for Stevie. “Charley” is a white custom-made "hardtail" (non-tremolo, fixed bridge) "Stratocaster-style" guitar built it in late 1983, with a neck plate on it engraved _”To Stevie Ray Vaughan, more in '84.”_ My best guess is Stevie just forgot in all the excitement.. so started the song with "Red,” but then realized his mistake and switched to Charley mid song... it was that important to him. Stevie's guitar tech and roadies were like a Nascar pit crew at changing strings and switching Stevie's guitar's out because he played so hard he often broke strings.
Then again, Stevie's guitar tech may have just put new strings on (you can see Stevie mouthing to him "it's going out of tune" during the song and you can hear Stevie comment about his guitar going out of tune at the end of the clip) and they were still stretching out and going flat as he played the song. This may have had something to do with him starting the song without "Charley," but if you watch him perform "Come On" right before this song you can see "Charley" sitting on it's guitar stand ready to go. So who knows...
After Number One, Charley is my favorite of his guitars with that rosewood neck and those beautiful Danelectro lipstick pickups. 😍

This song was in every set list, in his live shows..after he got sober, the speech was different every time, up all the way to the end..same hopeful messages, but each one more poignant! I was amazed that Stevie Ray Vaughan was such a sweet soul and love for everyone after hearing his older brother Jimmie Vaughan talk about their abusive childhood, their father was an alcoholic who abused them both but Jimmie said Stevie Ray always got it the worst. Coming from an abusive home myself I understand why people get into drugs and alcohol, I was raised by a mother who always told me she never wanted me and would lock me in a cold dark basement with no windows and a dirt floor, beat me with a board with 2 nails in it and I wouldn't eat but every 2 or 3 days. Drugs and alcohol was a survival technique to numb yourself from the pain and always asking yourself why me? Like Stevie Ray I had to go to rehab and face the things that happened to me and being a Stevie Ray Vaughan fan for over 40 years I heard this and I still cry. He took something so ugly and cruel and made himself a positive influence for people like me. That's why I had to find out everything about Stevie Ray from childhood to now, I don't mean to sound corny but he changed my life. STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN WILL ALWAYS BE THE GOAT imo

The white guitar was made for him by his friend Charlie who owned a guitar shop in Dallas. Charlie died unexpectedly of a heart attack. He wrote the song for Charlie and plays it on the guitar Charlie made for him

Beautiful. A whole different level of talent. Met him in the college-town bars of West Texas. I worked a little in sound reinforcement and help him set monitor levels a couple of times. He and Double Trouble did a show one night with Joe Ely, and there were twice as many people in the street trying to get in than people in front of the stage. When it was all over, there wasn’t a stick of furniture standing up straight. Good Lord was that great.

Thank you for covering my favorite guitarist, SRV. There are several that could legitimately claim the guitar throne, but for me it's his style, soul, creativity and passion that comes through his playing (and his singing) that makes him number one for me. This song in particular is big with me, because it always reminds me of my mom who my family lost in 2016. If you haven't already checked out another one of his slower jams, I highly recommend his cover of Jimi's Little Wing-itself a beautiful classic. He takes a 2:20 second song and turns it into his own 7 minute masterpiece.
If you want to check out a couple other blues rock guitarist who are legitimately underappreciated, sample some Jeff Healey. For a banger, try See the Light, and for a slow burner, I Think I love You Too Much. Jeff also has an awesome smokey bluesy voice perfect for his style.
An ever lesser known talent is Eric Gales, who Joe Bonamassa calls the greatest living blues guitarist. He has tons of songs as well. I would recommend his instrumental High Anxiety and Resurrection and Sign of the Storm! You will be happily impressed!

He used to close his shows with this song. The house lights would come up and everyone was still in their seats blown away. Seeing him live was life changing. He had 7 or 8 guitars he tuned himself before the show on hand.

Stevie didn't dress like that, or play his guitar behind the back, with his teeth, etc. to Show Off. I know this from the interviews of Tommy Shannon, bass and Chris Layton , guitar. Told about how he and his mom were in a mall, and people would stop him for his autograph sometimes, but lots of people Stared at him. He told his mom he wished they wouldn't do that, "I wonder why they stare at me." His mom, "It's those damn red pants you're wearing !" Chris Layton chuckled, "See, that's just the way he dressed ALL the time. Those were just his clothes." *** I first heard Pride & Joy on a local tavern jukebox in '96 in Settle, Wa., annoying the guys cuz I played it over and over. Later, sober, teaching English as a 2nd Language to young adults in Istanbul, Turkey 2003 I found damn near all his CDs -- bought every one of them. I didn't know he'd died in 1990...and I still tear up sometimes. I suggest, if you can, find, on his studio CDs, great ones : The Sky is Cryin', The Things That I Used to Do and of course We Couldn't Stand the Weather. Brings me joy to see On Your Faces how you Felt Stevie, even as you were stunned by his guitar playing. Oh, and someone said his voice is Honey Over Gravel. Great review. 85 was the year I got to meet him by the buses, after his DC gig at Constitution Hall. Still got my hat with the SRV autograph on the shelf. No cell phone pics back then, but he was a down to earth humble Texan who very much may've been the greatest guitarist of all time. Certainly of his time. You just wouldn't know it by spending a few precious moments in his company.
Ya'll have reacted to enough SRV now to understand why he's not just my #1 guitarist, but he's my #1 artist to listen too. His untimely death hit me hard. I remember getting the word on the radio in the car and I had to pull over and let it sink in. I miss his talent and the music he could have made over the years.

I'm so glad you enjoy the master. When I was 18 he captured my total attention. It lasted only 6 yrs. But what a ride. Now all we have are these classic performances. The world lost such a great musician that the hole left was enormous. I can only think what could have been.. He will always be my absolute favorite. It brings me joy when someone discovers him. If there is a key board player with him it's Reese. He is the only keyboardist that ever played with him. I was lucky enough to see him 6 times. Best guitarist I've ever seen live. There is a biography about him called caught in the crossfire. A very inspirational read. He got sober that last several years of his life. A very special talent and person and very humble.

Saw the his live when I was 15 years old old. To this day it didn’t seem real. I was given a gift to such an amazing person. His story stuck with me my whole life. I try with my whole heart to give joy every day if I can. Thank you Stevie!!

Watching one of his long videos I thought I counted like 4 or 5 guitars he switched through.
3 for sure his go to, the white one (his guitar builder built the white from different parts he had laying around his shop) a solid red, and burst (probably the one he switched out of in this video.
