Man I don’t understand people who underestimate the heat. I was born in this same desert and live with this heat my whole life. I’ve always grown up respecting the heat and it’s dangers
Thank you for doing this video and for the work put into this. I am a huge fan of Evan Tanner, the man and the fighter. Very humble person and heart of a lion. RIP Evan…
I got extreme heat exhaustion and had to be hospitalized after working consecutive 100+ degree days as a landscaper back in the day. I can attest that when you reach that point your mind isn't working properly. It was a very strange feeling. If I had been in that desert at the time I would have been toast.

To revive this man's last moments, as an Army scout with lots of experiences in the field and outdoors, I definitely think he didn't commit suicide like many people suggest. This was simply poor planning, poor research, poor preparedness on his part which is sad. Very sad!!! Reminds me of some of my training... Walking kilometers in the middle of nowhere in NTC California which is all desert. There is a point in which the uncertainty takes over your judgement and its like swimming against the current. Only a miracle could've save him. It must have been a horrific last minutes of his life knowing that this is it... Your life is over. And also reminds me of that movie Into the Wild/Wolves. Incredible job at documenting this fellas.
I was camping within a few miles of his location, we left on the 3rd, he was there on the 5th. All those dark rocks in the vid are light colored if you turn them over. The rocks are literally sun burned. Edit: we camped up there because it’s too hot for the bugs that like to bite. Down near the water had the mosquitos and other biting things
He made the last push up the last hill in an effort to determine his path, and as they said, "He used up all he had left in the tank." He likely sat down after this push, and as he rested, unconsciousness set in and that was it. Evan was a warrior, but he was not properly prepared for the conditions. This exact thing happens all the time in Grand Canyon to everyone from athletes to casual tourists. RIP Evan Tanner. You were a humble soul and one of my favorite fighters to watch in the early days of the UFC.
Kinda hilarous to say u 'can feel the elevation' and 'harder to get a gasp of breath' at the elevation of 1037 ft. Death zone on mountains beginning at 26,000 ft (Empire State Building 1,454ft).
Once u over heat.. it will fuck ur body up.. sometimes forever. In a sense that U cant take heat like U could. U find URSELF (tryin not to show it) head starts bumpin.. like a pulse.. just like a busted radiator.
Before I watch this. I'm from LOUISIANA. I would think right out the gate my bike comes on trailer as back up but I cant CARRY enough water even in a car.. u know. Not for a few weeks. U know. Unless u work outside doing construction for A SLAVE DRIVING BOSS.. U DONT KNOW HOW MUXH U DRINK ON AN AVERAGE WORK DAY MYSELF.. 2-3GALLONS. ROUGHLY IN 10 Hours hanging iron in summer
To the people who put this video together THANK YOU! I wanted to see the route. It's been many years but I still think of Evan
You aren't the only one
🙏🏽
Exactly the attire you need in a 120 degree desert environment- layers and a nice scarf
R.I.P. Evan. #1
RIP Evan. I was with a friend of his when the news came out he passed. Such a rough day and he's missed by a ton of people to this day

One of my favorite fighters. He was a different cat , you could just tell. R I P Champ .

For all its worth that was a beautiful place to pass. I'd rather die there than in a hospital or at home. RIP Evan.
Die alone of dehydration cooking in the desert - or at home or hospital surrounded by loved ones and comfortable... hmmmm
Mustve been terrifying at the last hours....the sense of desperation
Thank you for not forgetting Evan.
Right, Jeff?
Evan was an incredible character, looking forward to you future work on Evan.

He went out fighting. Very sad. Can't imagain how he felt

Thank you Jeff. 🙏 For EVERYTHING you do. 🙏
The strength of one, Evan Tanner r. i. p champ 🙏
I am getting dehydrated just watching this video. I need another beer.
I feel like there should be an annual Evan Tanner hike maybe make it a fundraiser event for kids to get outdoors or into sports
Thanks for making this video. That place is a wasteland, devoid of life. RIP Evan.
Great video. Thank You.
Beautiful up there. And I love your scarf. Have a great weekend!
Never underestimate nature everybody...R.I.P. Evan Tanner
It looks a bit like MARS.
Kinda hilarous to say u 'can feel the elevation' and 'harder to get a gasp of breath' at the elevation of 1037 ft. Death zone on mountains beginning at 26,000 ft

A sad story we really miss him
Evan was a great guy. Met him in 95 at the Amarillo civic center at a sharh fight
Was it at Sharh Fights 5 or Sharh Fights 6?
Evan is still my favorite MMA fighter. I'd like to know if him being a tough guy, he felt he would win...I hope you understand
Very cool video, as always.
So he planned on 3 weeks in the desert without carrying water filters and having locations of water to filter from.
Just saying it’s never made sense to me. I do not think it was suicide clearly. But how could he not realize he needed X amount of water.
I look forward to seeing this. Very interesting video. Thank you for sharing.
Where can we view the gps track, nowhere online that I have seen
Was that tanners red bag
Maybe I'm overkill with water but I feel I cant get enough water if I overheat . But if i keep myself moderated my way.. I'm good.
Once u over heat.. it will fuck ur body up.. sometimes forever. In a sense that U cant take heat like U could. U find URSELF (tryin not to show it) head starts bumpin.. like a pulse.. just like a busted radiator.
there was a water place and he couldnt find it. look for a wash.
What hike was this?
Awesome hike! Thanks for sharing
This is heart breaking. The panic set in, and he thought, "Oh F I have gone for vacation to Mars. I need Space X to rescue me."
Almost seems like a suicide mission. Did Evan get lost?

dying from dehydration is probably an easy death
This is some straight up missing 411 type of shit
