      Roger that taper.When I lived in Alaska we'd go after work and climb Flat Top. But in Dallas no hills much less mountains. So I am using the stairs at home and doing up lunges after up lunges - 300 aside with leg curls and knee lifts in between sets. Been running 2 + miles per day for 40 years. Lots of hi rep moderate weight upper body every other day and crunches (100) every day. One thing nobody I've found talks about is the back (lots of rowing) You must take care of your back or else.

    Two things govern your success beyond good equipment. 1) Being in superb physical and mental condition. And there is plenty on line about how to get in sheep shape. But you have to be comfortable being uncomfortable. And love to climb and climb some more.Best if you want do this as much as you want to take a ram. I just love it. If you are not in excellent aerobic shape, forget it. 2) Riflemanship. Not talking about marksmanship here. You may have to shoot from a very awkward position at a fairly long range. So, just shooting from the bench at the range is not going to get it done. Last ram I took was 800 ft below at a 40 degree angle. 384 yds line of sight. Some times you just cannot get any closer.
    I use mostly KUIU stuff. So does nearly every other serious sheep hunter.It's pretty good.It's super light. Sitka OK too.

    What would you recommend for a three layer system in Colorado? September thru December can be mix of warm weather, rain, snow, and wind. I want a 3 layer system that can go from 20 degree to 70 degree weather. I want one system. Even if I go home to Illinois to hunt tree stand whitetail in harsh weather. I can be tough when it comes to pushing limits with weather, but I should also be in a solid one system too. The Army has been information packed on packing lighter. Shoot me straight on a top layers and pants.

      @@kuiuultralight -- Showing the hunters packing out the meat might work REAL WELL for all the non-hunting people who may watch your videos and may not know that you do that, to me, it looked like the 4 of you went down the hill with nothing more than the "Trophy Horns" at 13:00, and there are plenty of people who rightfully believe that wild animals are NOT the sole possession of hunters to do with them what they please, or that Lands in their Nation are not the sole playground of foreigners to exploit them for their own purposes. AND if Kuiu Hunting showed more consideration in acknowledging that a lot of this "Great Hunting" that you do occurs in your obscure "Neighbour to the North" (a sovereign nation) I might not use the word "foreigners" to describe you, but you never seem to do that, instead, to soothe the emotions of your often very patriotic countrymen, you seem to imply the Yukon and the Northwest Territories are some sort of "obscure, un-organized political region" to the north of the continental USA. Many Americans do not realize that Canada is every bit as advanced as your country, has a GDP just as large on a per-capita basis (and 10th largest in the world out of 200+ nations) we actually have 35 million citizens (not just a few thousand) we took one of the 5 beaches on D-Day in 1944, fought our way beside you and the Brits through France and sent a large contingent of combat troops to Afghanistan for 10 years after the Sept 11 2001 attacks in your country. At least your films show we are not covered in snow 12 months of the year.........

    • @kuiuultralight
      @kuiuultralight  8 років тому +14

      The hunters carry out all the usable meat in their packs, along with any pieces (like head and pelt, for example) they'd like to keep for mounting. This is the law--it's illegal not to carry the meat out and use it. The bones, organ meats, and offal are left for the bears. The meat is either frozen and taken home by the hunters, or donated to someone local who needs it. As little as possible goes to waste.

  • @lindajackson618
    @lindajackson618 5 років тому

    Where do you keep the meat fresh at and away from bears?

    • @kuiuultralight
      @kuiuultralight  5 років тому

      There aren't a lot of bears in this area due to the elevation. Even if there had been, the hunters will usually have the bush plane (or helicopter in this case) come in and take out the meat, head, and pelt, so it's generally not sitting out too long.

    So, when the government made an offer to buy, was all that land seeded to Nahanni Butte? I thought it was all public and they had concessions or area they guided in.
    Did the government just buy out the guide rites and then convert the land to a park. Shame that happened. What’s the point in that, especially an area so remote.

    • @kuiuultralight
      @kuiuultralight  6 років тому

      They had concessions to most of the area--it was public, but not a national park at the time. During the transition, it was technically a national park, but they were allowed to continue hunting there until their new area rights began.

    Jason's ram looks like his daddy was a bighorn. I killed a 14 1/2 year old ram but it was no where near as big as yours.

    Just like Jimmy Carter looking up the Wrangles. Stupid. Now NOBODY knows what is going on in there.

    Loved the vid and it is truly a shame the park has taken away more industry from the deh cho. The park is a beautiful place but my personal distain for the national park system and the lack of respect for traditional land use rights is appalling. And now they want to put a park in the sahtu as well.

    It's a shame hunting isn't allowed. The U.S. did the same when they outlawed hunting in the Wrangell Mtns. With the stroke of a pen vast areas are now off limits. You can't even fly into the Wrantells to observe. Ridiculous.

    Jajajaja la verdad a esa edad no tienen nada mejor que hacer ? el pobre animal no tiene ninguna posibilidad, cual es la gracia ? ojalá dedicaran esa energia a cuidar la naturaleza y que prospere para que la puedan ver las próximas generaciones...

    Crappy hit near the end of the video. Too far back on the spine. That sheep suffered for a bit.

    Sad these animals were living their best life in an untouched place in the world and you alpha masculine men had to come in and take their lives for the sake of fun, sport, and trophy. Very sad.
